For reasons that are totally unknown or inexplicable to me, my Outlook calendar decided to pop up a notification yesterday that I had been in GWJ for 20 years.
WTF?
Did I somehow set some sort of notification 20 years ago that was going to ping in 2023? Is this autogenerated by GWJ? Did I opt in (no big deal if I didn't - I'm just mystified.)? If none of these things are true, how did Microsoft know that I had been part of this community for 20 years.
20 freaking years.
I am old, Gandalf. I don't look it, but I am beginning to feel it in my heart of hearts. Well-preserved indeed! Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread. That can't be right. I need a change, or something.
Oh Jesus Christ I'm just over half a year from my 20th.
Damn, and in about 3 weeks I'm 16 years!
I think I'm 18 years, I forgot.
I am just short of 20.

Good times, nice memories, looking forward to more, and thankful the site hasn't died like GoneGold, GamingTrend, and a few others I used to frequent.
Approaching 15 years myself.
It has definitely gotten much quieter around here, but it's still got a lot of life left.
wow, just about to hit 18 years. time flies.
kind of scary, not many things in my life have stayed consistent over these but these forums ..
I will hit 20 years in August, myself. Damn.
I am just short of 20.

December 2004 for me. Jeez. I think I came from SlashDot.
February 14, 2005.
Had been lurking for a while, and think that picking up WoW is what finally prompted me to register.

Yikes. I can't even remember 20 years ago me.
(Definitely came from GoneGold. RIP)
Came over from DGR (DrunkenGamersRadio, later RobotPanic). RIP Aaron Hilden.
20 in October. Planning to enjoy the day. And yeah, GoneGold refugee, but it took me a while to find this place.
I am approaching 14!!! But there were a few years of inactivity while I created the account and mostly lurked.
Lurking is good.
I've been a lurker since December 2003. Almost 20 years. Lots of games played since then.
Will be 17 years in November for me. I am a gonegold and dubious quality convert. Bill Harris has had an outsized influence on my internet existence for someone I have never met.

That's craziness. I was part of the original Evil Avatar exodus.
Then I remembered that my user number is 22. It's all changed a lot since then, but it's still home.
I wrote a bit for Bill after GameBytes fell apart. I actually spoke with him once. But he stopped doing things on the Internet and I didn't want to intrude, so I don't know what eventually happened to him. I believe he has passed on.
He was a good guy and is remembered fondly by a lot of people.
Bill Harris is alive and kicking

So maybe you are thinking of Rich LaPort from GoneGold?
Bill Harris is alive and kicking
Yeah, I believe that was, tragically, his wife that passed?
Incredible that Eli's 21 now. Criminy.
Yah, I am a few months passed 20 years now.
I think that is crazy. And the other thing that is nuts is to think of all the pages and words I have posted over 2 decades. I probably could have written a novel or two by now.

16 years in November.
Approaching 15 years. Haven't been a vocal member but have enjoyed the community, for the most part. Thank you for being around this long.
Did the mystery of the Outlook notification ever get solved? Did anyone else get one?

Crazy. Thanks TF2.
Oh yes, sorry, Rich LaPorte. Although I did also work with Bill on GameBytes and Gone Gold. I lost touch with him, and now this thing with his wife... Quite sad. But his son is excelling.
We've solved the mystery of The Box!
I've only been posting since 2007. Can't remember how long I was lurking before that.
My roommate has started regularly playing TF2, so I guess everything old is new again or something?
