Since no one will say it the game is named Final Upgrade
THE FINAL UPGRAAAADE DAH DAH DAAHHH DAHH DADADADADAAHHH
Cross posting from the Zelda thread... Player builds TIE Advanced in TotK.

Wonderful.
The more I see of this game the more impressed I am by it. I just hope the gameplay matches up to the visuals.
Who the hell names a ship "Caligula"?
Go read James Bamford's "Spyfail" for more info on the types of folks involved in this sort of stuff...
Ye olde 1971 main frame Star Trek ported to your favorite 80s 8-bit computer!
Well look at that. Nice find!
There had to be a PC version of that. I swear I remember playing text based Star Trek with a combat grid like that around 1990. Probably a copy of a disk from my dad's coworker who hooked us up with several "free" games when we first got a PC.
Oh there were totally DOS versions. Besides Super Star Trek there's Star Fleet, Begin and EGA Trek as well, for example.
There's a version here:
without the cool combo SRS/LRS window, though.
Linky no worky. Weird, this one does though.
Jumped on the Final Upgrade sale and bought it. But I have a very hard time getting into it...
The UI makes little sense to me, I have to move around in a MOO2 like starmap and I am not allowed to do anything other than build A to get B to make C to get to D.
Feels like I am bouncing off, pretty hard - is this a Sierra point and click adventure from the 80s, or should I try a little harder?
Are you following the tutorial? It eventually made things clear to me, and if an idiot like me can click with it, anyone can.
I'm not sure what you mean about moving around the starmap. The map is one way to move around, but not the only way.

I am following the tutorial and getting bored... But perhaps it is me, I got bored with railway empire 'cause the signs are stupid, I got bored with CK II because it didn't click and I just didn't get the game, I got bored with Train Vally 2 because the last 20+ levels were poor designed and just put a time cap on it. Endless Space was boring, No Man's Sky was kind of too hard to get into. And this game makes no sense to me till now.
I finished the first two systems and then I could choose three systems and chose apperantly the wrong one.
I'm not sure there is a wrong one. I'm sorry I don't know what to tell you. I usually don't like fiddly games but the automation in this one helps very much.
I'm no expert on the game though, as I'm still very new to it myself. The folks on the Discord are very helpful, maybe they can help get you over this hump?
Hey you guys a new Trek game! Yay!

From Paradox........uugh....
Seriously, it looks, so far, like some Stellaris mod had sex with Birth of the Federation.
DO WANT!
You're gonna love it, Veloxi, because it'll be CK3 in spaaace, not Stellaris.
Everyone said Stellaris was gonna be Crusader Kings in space...and yet...we got Baby's Distant Worlds.

Turns out gamer wishful-thinking isn't dependable reporting.
Regardless, this isn't even developed by Paradox, so it'll probably be neither Stellaris nor CK.
On the other hand, there's Gul Dukat on the key art and he'd fit right in with CK.
It's by the people who did the Master of Orion remake, and I'd had enough of that style of space 4x back in the 90s. This is gonna need a whole lot of good reviews before I even look at it.
Yeah, NuMoO wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Great tutorial, good starting point for newbies to the genre, but overall a damned boring game.
Yeah whenever I still a trailer that doesn't show anything gameplay wise my hype drops proportionally.
On a prior post. I played final upgrade a while back. Got decently far but didn't finish. Fun and interesting factorio ish space game. Though bit more puzzle then factorio really. The spaceship building and fighting was oddly fun if silly to watch.
My son snagged me Spacebourne 2 off my wishlist for fathers day (what a great kid!). Wow, really such a gem. Amazing this was done by a one-man studio.
The 2.1 update which just dropped added something really interesting/crazy. The in-game AI Eve is basically Chat GPT-powered or something like it. He trained the model with info about the game, so basically in-game you can hold the F key down and ask "how do I repair my ship" and Eve will answer you in a conversational manner. You can also issue commands, but that's been done before. Absolutely floored me. Will be really interesting to see what other devs do with this kind of feature in games going forward.
Genie is definitely out of the bottle.
Anyways....COOL GAME! Def janky and buggy but good fun.
Wonderful, so glad you're enjoying it!!!
Just a bump for all the console space gamers who might not know or have realized that Everspace 2 dropped yesterday.
GO. GET. IT.
And I literally just saw a drool-inducing YouTube vid a few minutes ago before popping over here to seei Wayfarer’s comment about Spacebourne 2. Whoo!
The real space gamers already beat it on PC.
But good reminder for console fun
Any thoughts on Rings of Saturn?
This looks like one of those games I say "wow that's cool", I buy it, play for about 15 minutes think about how much time I'll spend on it , and never do..
in other words 100% buy.
