What are you playing this weekend?

All Zelda. All the time. Can't stop.

Far less than I planned on.
Some Quake Champions as always.
A few minutes of Final Fantasy VII
A few rounds of Pinball FX 3 (Adventure Time table)

Midnight Suns. I am loving this game SO MUCH.

Usually when Firaxis makes a game they add that special obsession sauce and it gets its hooks in me, but a Marvel/XCOM hybrid card combat RPG game with a great story, characters, relationship building and fantastic voiceover? GOTY so far for me.

At least until Baldur's Gate 3 is released and doesn't stink.

Spoiler:

Please don't stink, Baldur's Gate 3. Boo would be angry...

I started playing Dead Space 2023 the other day as as part of my 1 month EA pro membership that I got for Jedi Survivor and PGA Tour. I think I’d really need to play this non stop to finish this in another day or so as I just started Chapter 3. I probably won’t make it all the way through.

This seems pretty solid and has great atmosphere. I’m playing on normal because I wanted at least a chance to finish the game and figured Hard would make it even more unlikely. I did die once when I panicked fighting in a room that went dark and a bunch of enemies came in. The difficulty as a whole on normal seems like it is just enough to keep it interesting. I do need to pay attention.

My one real complaint, which is probably unavoidable for this setting is how everyplace has pretty much looked the same. The game is appropriately creepy, without being scary.

Whoever designed the no gravity area during the sequence where you need to give 9 shots shouldn't be allowed to design a level ever again. That was horrible. Other than that the game as been great. I think I'm towards the end of chapter 6. Still not sure if I'll be able to finish before my subscription runs out..

Age of Wonders 4 - from Heroic Toads to Necro Goblins I've been loving this 4X game

Warhammer 40k: Boltgun is my new go-to for quick shooting action when I don't want to strategize. When I just have a short amount of break time I'll be jumping into this.

I finished Dead Space 2023 with either an hour to spare, or 25 hours to spare. Not sure what they mean when they say EA Play expires on the 26th - at the start or end. Paying $15 to finish Jedi Survivor, Dead Space 2023, and play EA Tour Golf was a really good deal.

I didn't realize until the final battle that I can press B while not aiming to quick heal. I would always open the menu and use a health pack manually - which isn't convenient during combat. I think the entire game I only healed outside of combat except for the final battle. I tried to heal and died, and figured there has to be a quick way to heal and low and behold there was

I'd give this a solid 4 out of 5 stars. The story was good enough, atmosphere good and combat fun - until I fought the same enemies a ton of times and was ready to finish. Then I was cranky when another combat occurred. The only thing I really didn't like was some of the no gravity movement and combat. I never really like that in games.

Having finished Dying Light 2 Shymlark and I were casting about for a new co-op game. The finalists were Children of Morta and Returnal. We installed children of Morta and I played the prologue incase it was one of those ‘play the tutorial THEN you can co-op’ games. There was no sign of a way to invite people to play so we looked online and were treated to a thrilling journey through posts over the intervening years saying that co-op had been removed then that co-op was back in but that it was only on PC and ultimately that there might be co-op on consoles in the future but there was none at the moment. We moved on to Returnal.

Turns out we both feel the same about the Returnal: loving it in concept and visuals but intimidated by it’s rogue-like nature. Someone, who wasn’t me, hadn’t installed the patch that added the co-op element (and the challenge tower) which was a mighty 17gb. While we waited we decided to try out Ghost of Tsushima: Legends just so Shymlark could get the measure of it. Turns out we both adore the Legends co-op mode (I’ve been hankering to play it more) so that’s most likely what we’ll be playing this weekend and for many weekends to come.

More Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

I've begun the chipping away at Final Fantasy IX on the Switch, but now that I've hit Lvl 10 in Marauder, Final Fantasy XIV has opened up to me in the way I enjoy, which is to say, I can now go down the Crafting/Gathering rabbit hole that makes brain go brrrrrrrrrrrr.

On top of plans to see Fast X today, this is gearing up to be a very Fast & Furious Final Fantasy Friday.

I’ll be mostly playing Final Fantasy XIV. I gotta level up my Island Sanctuary, work on gearing my crafters and gatherers, and maybe try that new Extreme Trial against

Yes and a long weekend to boot.

So besides more playtesting for Star Fleet II, I've been finding trouble with sticking with one game of late. Usually I have a game or two on the burner that is my go-to, but right now I'm burned out on my usuals. So lately I've been bouncing between Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and Bloody Rally Show, so that'll likely continue this weekend.

Hopefully wrapping up Yoku's Island Express, and probably spending some time on the newly-discovered Returnal for my brand-spanking-new PS5 (finally easy to find). Other than that, I may start Dino Crisis (PS1) over, since it was a while since I kicked it off.

Pottering on in humanity I need some relaxing puzzle vibes whilst also being able to funnel 100000000s of humans off a cliff if I chose.

Well we could still use playtesters if you have the time, but we're getting close. Each beta has fewer and fewer bugs, a code audit is currently ongoing, and the documentation is being worked on, so we're not far away now.

Some Railway Empire 2 - which I nearly bought, before some kind person on here pointed out that it was coming out on Gamepass. Which doesn't preclude me buying it eventually, but I had some issues with the first one that had me going back to Transport Fever 2.

Other than that, I'm on holiday next week, which seems like as good a time as any to start something new and big. Or, more likely, do a complete Mass Effect 1-3 run for the 11th time.

I started Atelier Ryza a couple of days ago, so I'll continue familiarizing myself with that game.

Back from my Japan trip and I need to catch up on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Only just got off the first Sky Island since I've been so busy and/or tired. It was fun seeing statue/posters for it everywhere in Japan and I got some exclusive merch so I guess that's okay. I probably should touch base in Spiritfarer and Yakuza 4 too so I don't completely forget what I was doing.

Nice!!!

Realms of Magic which isn't as good as other games in the same genre. The controls aren't very good. There are many menus and some aren't setup in a logical way. I had to look up how to rotate a object. I had to look up how leave a area. The quest log is lacking basic features. Some stuff just isn't explained. Still enjoying it mostly.

Miles Morales which is getting better and better. I was avoiding the side optional stuff but just tried one and was surprised it had some story to it. I thought they were going to be all randomly generated. I skipped spiderman but might play that after this.

After watching the reveal of The Talos Principle II I remembered that I really fancied playing the first game but never got around to it. I’ve installed the game and completed the first few puzzles. Good game so far.

Assuming I get the TV situation settled (see the loathe thread) Jedi Survivor and Star Trek: Resurgence.

Me too with Midnight Suns!. It’s been consuming all my attention over the past month or so. I’m right on the doorstep of the final mission, which should tell you how aggressively I’ve been playing it.

I got Midnight Suns because of the posts in here and so far it's good!

Saints Row. I am having a stupid amount of fun and several hours in I am still unlocking new stuff. Three random crashes, some initial wonkiness with the mouse settings, a weird 'bug' where my character started the opening cinematics buck naked, but I'm having fun.

Playing deep into the Path of Exile end game for the first time and loving it. Gear-a-polooza lol. Thinking about my next character but I still have like 15 levels and a whole bunch of game mechanics still left.

Peglin has taken up my "brainless entertainment" time. And I'll probably fire up Distant Worlds 2 to see the new changes. Maybe one of Wargame Design Studios games if I'm in a trad mood tomorrow.

Yeah this didn't happen. I've fallen back in with Taxinaut in a big way and lost several hours to it this weekend. Guess I'm over my burnout.
