Name that GAME Thread

Nope. Screenshot was intentionally difficult. This next one should give it away though.

WWII Online!

Continuing with the theme:

First hint: Not any of the games offered as answers to my previous one.

IL-2 Sturmovik series? It looks a bit different than I remember, so I'L-2 guess....
IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946

Also: WWII: Online is correct.
I was just about to start giving hints.

Nope, none of the IL-2s.

Hint: Iron Maiden.

The UI that you were hiding in the first shot indeed gave it away.

Come on you all, I've led you right to it.

Aces High

CORRECT

Oh, one of those Olympics games Epyx did on C64. Summer Games. I think that's the one where the original game and sequel combined into one big game, right?

You got it, it's Epyx Summer Games... though this screenshot is from the Atari 800 version.

That looks like Mechwarrior so I bet it's not Mechwarrior.

It's not Heavy Gear I/II, Earthsiege, nor the old BattleTech, so I'm out of ideas.

It does look vaguely familiar though.

Edit: also not Metal Head, which was a terrible 32X mech game, mostly because of its 1/2 frame per second rendering speed.

Hint: this one is continuing on the theme of my last two.

I thought I was pretty knowledgable about the Battletech/Mechwarrior franchise, but you've just blown my mind. I would have guessed it's from one of the "simulator pods", but I'm pretty sure the Shadow Hawk wasn't an option in those things.

Mechwarrior: The Final Frontier?

Getting closer now, but you’re correct, it was not from any of those BattleTech Center pod games. (I got to play one of those back in the day, at Virtual World in San Diego)

This was played on home PCs.

Final hint:

3 words. Second word is BattleTech.

Alright, I murdered the game, so the answer is:

Multiplayer BattleTech: Solaris

It was a pay-per-hour multiplayer game available on AOL in the mid/late '90s.

Prior to that, there was Multiplayer BattleTech, an EGA version that was available on GEnie in the early '90s. And there was a failed sequel, Multiplayer BattleTech: 3025, which only made it to the beta stage in 2001 before being killed off.

Man, nobody remembers the pay-to-play '90s online service games.

Free play!

The Bard’s Tale?

Was trying to guess which one it was based on the font style and graphics quality. Overlooked the obvious hint.

Neverwinter Nights

Neverwinter Nights

Winner! This was from the AOL online service multiplayer version.

Free play.

I have no idea how I missed out on even knowing that existed. But if I had, my college GPA would have suffered. So in retrospect maybe it's just as well.

That game from Pink Stripes kind of looks like an older version of TrackMania to me.

That's exactly what I thought. I've only seen the current version but "Old Trackmania" was the first thing that jumped to mind when I saw it.

-BEP

It's not a Trackmania game!

I think that's the catapult mini game (?) from Flat Out ...
