Moana came out in 2016.

Why are they making a live-action version? Who asked for this?

Accountants.

Maybe after the disaster that was Black Adam, The Rock fears his star is dimming and needs to cash in on the remake ASAP while he's still able to. I doubt his ego would be able to handle anyone else playing Maui.

I don't think there are a lot of pro Wrestling fans here, but it is nuts to be how much Dwayne has just blown, from his own ego and just non-stop poor project choices. I thought he had the world at his feet, and somehow, now, most people I know would agree that Batista is by far the better actor, and a better dude too.

I still like Johnson well enough, but the ego-routine is wearing awful thin. Batista is great precisely because he doesn't take himself seriously(seemingly) and the roles that he commands are the better for his personal humility.

Ultimately, I agree with you, Pred.

Honor Among Thieves is a fun movie, but Record of Lodoss War is still the best show that came out of a D&D tabletop game. I think it’s a good direction to take a movie. A D&D movie should focus on telling good stories and experiences, because that’s what the game is about.

The DMPC was a pretty solid gag. Doubt that most non-gamers would get it, though.

It's an incredibly tight competition, but I think the title of "most annoying people in the world" may have to go to the people in the comments of literally any pet video on the internet.

Imagining the brain that thinks of this as a good idea.

"No, no, we're not the channel of 'Premium Quality Programming,' we've got all sorts of absolute dogsh*t for you here!"

I was extremely confident that, outside of trailers for games, no advert, no matter how engaging, intriguing or visually stunning, would ever stop me from hitting the skip button on YouTube the moment it appeared. That was until just now when an ad for free HIV test kits showed me a hamster in a tiny decorated room (presumably in a doll’s house) eating strands of cooked spaghetti from a hamster proportionate bowl on a hamster proportionate table.

I couldn’t look away.

It is truly unfair that I cannot be paid for being a moron, while these dudes will make millions.

MAX debuts on May 23. There will be 3 price ranges:

- With Ads: $9.99 per month
- Ad-free: $15.99 per month
- Ultimate Ad-free: $19.99 per month

Streaming is officially Worse Cable.

Streaming is officially Worse Cable.

I mean, cable is still pretty f*cking bad.

That said, the sh*tty, stupid branding move is made worse by the fact that I'm pretty sure those pricing tiers effectively break down to a $4 price increase if you want decent video and audio quality.

Taking my annoyance over to the HBO Max thread though.

I've been getting spam from the "Black Lotus Casino." Did they intend that as a Magic: the Gathering reference? Regardless, I've read enough Howard to not go anywhere near black lotus.

Is anyone else like me, who'll buy TTRPG books for games they don't/haven't played?

I played through Coteries and Shadows of New York recently, and went out and grabbed the most recent V:tM core rulebook.

I haven't played Vampire in literally more than 20 years, but I find the core rulebook just absolutely exquisite. Wonderful world-building and good explanation of the rules as well. I may never play it, but damn if it's not fun to look through it.

That's every book I own except Dungeon World, and maybe one of the supplements I bought.

I ran Lady Blackbird once, but that's a free game.

Probably half of my RPG shelf is games I've never played.

There is not a single reason the new Little Mermaid movie should be 2:15. The original is 83 minutes! The remake should be 90, at most.

Just as correct.

I dunno, triggering bigoted snowflakes is a pretty good reason.

Everything does that. Afternoon and evening thundershowers do that. They're very fragile people.

Where oh where were you last night?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and thought I found true love;
You met another and pfft you were gone.

Misty Rowe was soooo cute.

I was out walking with friends just now. There was a little light rain and we had our hoods up. I had stopped to take pics. When I caught them up Carol was saying, “The thing is that elephants move at varying speeds some are fast some move quite slowly.”
Amazed that the topic of conservation had changed so much I asked, “Elephants?”
Carol frowned and replied, “Elephants!”
“Elephants move at varying speeds,” I elaborated.
Carol laughed. “ Weather fronts!” She said.

She's not wrong about elephants either tho.

Had a Eureka! moment this morning: "I bet THAT's where my sunglasses are!"

And I was right. I wish I had thought of it before I bought a new pair. Oh well, the new ones look better, and now I get to leave a pair in the car, where I need them most.

It’s always great when it dawns on you where something you misplaced is.

Unless, like when I "lost" my keys last week, it's somewhere so blisteringly obvious that you wonder if you've sustained brain damage recently.

Can a song be total crap and also totally slap?

(I may have heard "Bring Me to Life" for the first time in a decade today.)

My best friend turned 40 earlier this year, and I will in a few months.

We met today and had that Big Talk about realizing you're not young anymore and suddenly, your own mortality is visible and how we deal with it.

It was a nice convo to have, honestly. It's still a little scary, that sudden realization that You're Getting Old Now, although what was interesting was that I was coping with it a bit better than he was, because I work in news and I see obits of people who didn't even make it to 30 every day, which, for whatever reason, helps me not feel afraid that my life is almost over.

Plus, like, I know my passion now. I know what I want to do. I know I wish I'd figured it out sooner, but if I hadn't had that experience, I might not have figured it out.

No real point to this post, just kinda having that "Wow, I'm gonna be 40" moment tonight.

What sucks the most is you actually have to start working on staying healthy, it doesn’t just happen on its own any longer.

I genuinely consider this a plus. I no longer have the option of sitting on my arse all the time, which is great because that makes me super depressed.

Instead I HAVE to keep physically active and eat right, and that makes me content and fulfilled.

All the things people talk about AI doing, and I haven't heard a thing yet about it making the AI in games smarter.

I don't even need a lot! Let's start with the basics. Like, if there are 10 'highly trained' soldiers guarding a facility, and 2, then 3, then 5, then 7 of them suddenly take unannounced 'lunch breaks' and stop responding on the radio, mayhap this should be treated as something suspicious?

I mean, the ideal would be "playing a war scenario in DCS where a single intelligence is controlling the opposing forces and causing them to react intelligently to threats with coordination" would be great, but baby steps.

Sid Meirs once said he could make the AI in Civ a lot smarter but then people would complain it was cheating. So I suspect the situations you are describing are intentionally dumbed down for gameplay reasons

All the buzz around AI right now is from large language models so at best all it would do for games is make generic NPC interactions a little more realistic and and at worst it would just put a lot of writers out of work.
