GWJ bugs, feature requests, and updates

In Firefox, the embed gives the following error:

Firefox Can’t Open This Page

To protect your security, cse.google.com will not allow Firefox to display the page if another site has embedded it. To see this page, you need to open it in a new window.

Below that is a button allowing me to open the search in a new window, where the search results are presented to me like they would be if they were embedded.

I poked, and this is known.

It appears that Google did something and no longer supports how GWJ uses the embedded Google Search.

A different method is being looked for, but it will take some dev time.

*****Never mind***** forum search already requested

Google does a terrible job of scraping this site for search IMO. I constantly struggle to find old NFL threads by searching for player names that I know for a fact I've typed in posts, and Google simply cannot find it.

I would love if we could have a real, localized, full text search, with an ability to scope searches (eg. only posts on the Sports boards). Which I know is a much bigger ask.

I'll do it for $5,000,000

I’ll do it for $4,000,000.

I'll do it for...

Can I request that for the next site update the forums perform better on mobile? Threads with lots of images perform really poorly when returning the user to last read message.

I'll mention it.

Spam protection idea: How about maybe making it so Coffee Grinders can't edit posts, or maybe give a 1-hour grace period for edits? Something to prevent someone from making a seemingly innocuous post, then editing it a week or two later to add a spam link.

Also might be worth reconsidering a previous anti-spam measure that I think was removed in ages past: disallow Coffee Grinders from posting links, using BBCode, or something like that.

Or maybe this isn't as much of a problem as I think it is. Whatever.

I believe this used to exist, but that got accidentally removed in an update at some point in time.

The admin team is aware of it and are looking at ways to prevent it in the future.

In the mean time, simply report the posts and a mod will see it and watch the post(s) and user in question.

Yeah, I've been reporting them after the post gets edited. Thanks.

Is there a way to get an "ignore" feature? Thanks!

I'll pass it on.

Very minor issue but my "recent content" icon (to the left of my user logo top right of the screen) can be red meaning I have new content. But when I select it nothing new is showing.

This used to be people editing comments in a couple of threads I follow but I had to guess and it no longer seems to be the case, so that is always now showing new content.

I could go through each thread (about 4 pages worth) but wondered if there was another way to identify the thread?

Sorry it is such a small thing and I went back a few pages and couldn't find anyone else with the issue.

I don't think there is, but I will bring it up.

Just curious, what's the status/ETA of the site revamp?

In the GWJ CC from Aug 23rd, Certis mentions "fall" as a time where they will have a beta site available for testing.

Something going on with the website right now? I have topics that haven’t had responses in months popping up on Page 1 of the All Recent Content tab.

If you're really antsy, there's a hidden preview area you can sneak a peek at.

Spam bots editing old posts brings old conversations up to the top

I don't hate it

At least it fills the entire width of the screen.

Here's a feature request: have the language filter ignore "url" bbcode tags.

Just in the past few days, there's been a number of broken links because "sh*t" was censored in the URL tag.

The one in the Internet was a Mistake thread that just got broken wasn't in a url tag, it was just the link pasted as plain text.

I just got a few back-to-back Cloudflare "prove you're human" checkbox challenges, an HTTP 429 error when trying to Like a post, and someone's avatar image didn't load.

Site seems fine otherwise, just raising awareness of some weirdness.

Edit: Firefox on my desktop PC. It's been working fine all day long until just now.

I've been getting the same thing this afternoon, also on Firefox.

I've been seeing the same symptoms just now, Google Chrome on PC. No problems prior to this, but it'd been a few hours since I last popped by today.

Saw the same about 30-60 minutes ago, but then it stopped. On my phone using Safari.
