MLB 2023 Season - The Winter Stove of Warmth

And tied IMMEDIATELY.

Oh, this is gonna be fun.

5 outs left for the ol' Ooos of Ahh.

Schwar-bomb, etc.

Potentially the final half-inning. Ohtani on the mound, and, if no-one gets a walk or a hit, it'll be him vs. Trout to see if the USA can keep the game going.

If Mike Trout hits a solo homer off Shohei Ohtani to tie the game then the WBC should immediately end in a tie and they should both be released from their Angels contracts

Ohtani is God.

Shohei Othani in the World Baseball Classic hit .435/.606/.739 with 4 doubles & a home run. And he had a 1.86 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 9⅔ innings.

So that was an awesome tournament, the old ass haters are stupid, long live the WBC.

Also, Ohtani's free agency is going to cause some kind of financial collapse.

He's going to get a contract that can be measured in GDP. The starting point is LITERALLY half a billy.

That one AB was the most a national audience saw Ohtani and Trout playing together.

It's spring now, trainings over and it's time for some Judgian dingers! Starting with his first at bat of the season.

The hero has been updated accordingly.

Phils: "Good, deGrom moved over to the AL".

Also Phils: Opening day pitching matchup: Nola vs deGrom

It nearly worked out too!

Watched 2 games in the background today while working. Not sure I've ever done that but opening day buzz got me

Angels had a very Angels opening day.

I'm THIS CLOSE to buying OOTP again, playing it all weekend, and then not touching it again until August.

TUNGSTEN ARM O'DOYLE STRIKES AGAIN

I was also tempted by OOTP, but I picked up The Show last year, and that made it pretty clear that when it comes to sports games, I'm an old man who doesn't understand them anymore. I mean, I get that they make all their money from the Perfect Team (or whatever) modes, and don't blame them for chasing that. But the other modes feel like an afterthought and that's a bummer.

Edit: My daughter scolded me for laughing at this, but I'm watching it again right now and it's still funny.

Is OOTP making money from Perfect Team? Because in the last one I played (22), it was there as well but it never felt like a major part of the game. Certainly nothing like Diamond Dynasty mode in The Show, which is just baseball FIFA/Madden Ultimate Team, and I never got the feeling from OOTP that the main modes (Career, Historic, etc.) were afterthoughts. Those, at least as far as I can tell, are and remain their bread and butter, enabling people to run online leagues (Hi now-defunct GWJ OOTP League!).

Also, you're a far better person than me, because I was laughing at this tonight.

Shohei Ohtani’s outing was the 26th since at least 1901 with 10+ strikeouts and no runs allowed on Opening Day

it’s the first time that pitcher’s team lost the game

Tungsten Arm O'Doyle will outlive us all.

I’m pretty sure OOTP is making money from Perfect Team, partially based on a vaguely remembered discord comment that it was doing really well even in the second year, and from all of the attention they give it. This year they have even added a subscription option.

In their defense, I don’t think they have abandoned the solo franchise gameplay nearly as badly as The Show has abandoned all of its other modes.

One annoying thing is that most international leagues are gone now. There were some sudden legal issues around one of the leagues in the previous version so they had to put out a patch that removed it, and that wasn’t welll executed or well received (I don’t think it was possible to be well executed ). So for this years edition they have removed all leagues they don’t have licenses for. I think this means we still have the MLB, a Korean league ( their newish parent company is Korean ) and I think I saw a Mexican league.

I wasn’t going to buy it this year. But I slipped and ended up with it anyway. Now I’ve been waiting for the first month or of patches for things to settle down, and then I’ll probably forget to play until around the end of the real season.

I mean, I can't be mad at them for it. I hate those modes and personally have no use for them, but they are absolute money-printing machines for the games that use them. I wish we could see how much money EA's made off of FIFA Ultimate Team, I bet it's genuinely sinful.

Small sample sizes are small. But I could enjoy having a game under three hours with my 6yo's love of baseball. Maybe time to take him to a Guardians or Pirates game.

Saturday's SEA/CLE game was 2:04. And it's even faster when you're watching slightly delayed and skipping commercial breaks. I wasn't even through my second beer and the game was over! Obvious solution is to drink faster, but I have very mixed feelings on the pitch clock. I somehow both really like it and hate it.

As a content generator, the pitch clock is fantastic.

My wife is constantly talking about the Rays. Could one of your teams please try to score some runs during a game? Thanks

The Rays just have to play some competitive teams.

they just shut out Boston, which has scored the third most runs so far this season. Even though they haven't played great teams so far, they've been consistently walloping them.

Some are more than one, but your point is 100% true, lol. That is the only chink right now in the streak.

Sure, I am a Yankees fan, but there is something incredibly funny about them just beating the sh*t out of the Yankees and Red Sox with their 3x as large payrolls every third year or so.
