Random non sequitur posts catch-all thread

What setting?

And can you adjust brightness with HDR turned on, at all?

"Motion smoothing" is the most common "official" name, followed by "motion interpolation." Right-thinking people call it "soap opera mode" and disable it Day One.

Interesting. Thanks!

I've noticed that I've had some pain in the back of my neck for the past few days. At first, I thought it was because of my mattress (which, to be fair, is old and needs to be replaced) but, sitting down in front of the TV to watch something tonight, it suddenly hit me: The couch is not perfectly aligned, so when I watch TV, my head is always very slightly turned to the right. This has happened in the past but, for some reason, it's not the first thing that came to my mind.

Hopefully that's it and things will be back to normal in a day or two. I might still buy that new mattress anyway, after 12 years, I think it's time, and the one I tested earlier today at Ikea felt much, much better than the one I currently have. It's expensive but, as a former insomniac, I know you can't put a price on a good night of sleep.

Multiple times, I've had these dreams where I end up on a Gong Show-type show called Rank Raheem. It's hosted by Radio Raheem and he judges the performances by holding up either his LOVE hand or his HATE hand. This wasn't a real show, was it? Like, this dream has shown up multiple times over several years to the point where I feel like this had to be an actual thing I saw somewhere.

Gonna go with "probably not, but don't quote me on that."

Anyone else realize that virtually all of their pop culture consumption is being synced to various book clubs and rewatch podcasts?

I'm re-reading Berserk along with a YouTuber named Daniel Greene who's reading it for the first time.

I'm re-playing Final Fantasy 6 alongside the Resonant Arc podcast.

I'm about to start Final Fantasy 9 alongside this forum's JRPG club.

I'm re-watching Star Trek Voyager alongside the Greatest Gen podcast.

I'm re-watching Star Trek Enterprise alongside Zack Handlen's Patreon reviews.

I'm rewatching the DCAU (currently on Justice League) for my own podcast (shameless plug).

I'm enjoying all of these things, none of them feels like homework or anything, it's just weird to realize how many simultaneous re-read/watch/plays I've got going on.

Not me, but I don't like listening to podcasts and am not part of any book clubs.

I did that with his reading of Dresden Files. I do watch his Berserk videos, though. He had the appropriate response to the Eclipse.

I have literally had people slowly run into me from behind as I snowplowed on a bunny slope and they went just a little faster. We ended up in a heap but I was 14 or 15 so no one was hurt. On the other hand, if I hit someone at speed, I think I'd be hurt too...

Can’t get the closed captions 99% of the time on the free to air station apps. What horsesh*t.

I have the Twin Peaks Idle Thumbs rewatch RSS subscribed and I’ve never gotten to it. Also Delta Flyers for Star Trek voyager but I’d just finished watching it when it came out and didn’t want to revisit immediately.

Just a random thought I had while perusing Facebook. For reference first; I belong to a picky eating support group where we share experiences about what we eat, and the difficulties, and successes, of trying to expand our horizons. I kinda was aware of this on a surface level for a while, because despite being a picky eater myself, I tend to eat what some of the folks in the group hate with a passion: onions/garlic/tomatoes. And I never gave it much more thought than “hey, I guess every picky eater is a bit different”. But then I am browsing as I do a couple times a week and it finally clicks. Some of the picky eaters only eat seafood. Some only processed foods, some only food they made, some only eat veggies. Some only eat food of a specific temperature and some of a specific texture. I’m picky more because of trauma and people bullying/pressuring to where it’s a literal anxiety trigger to try something new, along with being super sensitive to textures and certain tastes. I’m posting here because I think this is the “shower thoughts” thread? And this is the most shower thought-y thing I’ve had in a while. No real reason for posting other than maybe sharing a perspective folks may not have thought of, or if there are picky eaters (or parents of a picky eater) on the ‘book who didn’t know of it.

I work Monday-Friday evenings now, and every now and then, I'll look up at the TVs in the office and be like "what the f*ck are we even broadcasting anymore"?

Why is Jimmy Fallon in a stupid outfit watching celebrities sing nonsense? Why does every show on CBS look exactly the same? What the f*ck is going on with this Gordon Ramsay show that is apparently on moving scaffolding?

I think I’m watching too much Lego Masters. On a drive into the next town I was starting to see how all the houses would look constructed in Lego.

Wow. So much of this post resonates, but especially this. I grew up in f*cked times were in preschool day care if I didn’t eat foods they’d put me in a high chair and a dunce cap. So those are my earliest memories.

I would just get verbal abuse from the staff, and they’d ignore me when I was picked on/assaulted by the other kids. They made it very clear that I was a problem they didn’t like. There’s other stuff but that’s what I remember from daycare, and that was late 90s, early 2k’s.

Mid-late 90's.

I was in daycare in the late 70s. Now I'm getting abused here.

60's for me, so... Yeah.

Sorry, was trying to show how similar our situations were.

Moana came out in 2016.

Why are they making a live-action version? Who asked for this?

Accountants.

to appease their Floridian overlords who decry Black Ariel, I believe they are doing this one with an all white cast.

I was just joking. The obligatory, "You whippersnappers!" old man railing reply.

Gotcha. Hard to tell via text only sometimes.

It’s a technical challenge with today’s film equipment to properly capture *checks notes* South Pacific skin tones…

Well, Dwayne Johnson is producing it. His grandfather was Samoan High Chief Fanene Leifi Pita Maivia. He strongly implies that he'll be back in the cast as Maui, but the cast list has not been revealed.

We can hope.

Maybe after the disaster that was Black Adam, The Rock fears his star is dimming and needs to cash in on the remake ASAP while he's still able to. I doubt his ego would be able to handle anyone else playing Maui.

kinda wish he would cast someone else, but still do the voice.
