We had one of those growing up. With a record player on top, tape deck in the middle, cd player at the bottom. Other stuff? It was quite a stack.

By my late teens the home stereo looked more like this:

This is daily life for IT

Yes.

I don't understand why that issue hasn't been resolved already.

I absolutely love that they have blocked the Apple Mail app on all company issued iPhones at my new job. Best I.T. decision ever. Now if they would just do the same for the damn Windows Mail one on desktops/laptops.

Why? What's your problem with it? Personally Apple Mail is my favourite mail client, mainly because it's so simple.

Also why?

Apple Mail and Outlook are pretty much the entire mail client universe between them (er, maybe - it just occurred to me that I don't actually know if there's a native Android mail client other than Outlook). If you want to ban both of those, which unusual mail client are you wanting people to use? (I once worked for a company that required everyone to use the Gmail web client; now that was a truly horrible experience.)

a perfect example of the issue. Windows Mail is not Outlook.

Emphasis mine. Personal vs work use are very different here.

In a professional setting, having a consistent setup makes support possible. Having a single client makes keeping track of bugs, writing documentation, and coordinating updates possible. Nobody's IT department wants to track all that for all possible mail clients.

There are also some security features on the mail server side that could dictate client choice on devices. Lots of regulated industries have pretty strict rules about what kind of information you're allowed to send in a plain-text email or as an attachement, and standardizing on a mail client makes automatic enforcement of those policies possible. It's a huge risk mitigation strategy.

For some reason, this is the first thing that pops into my head when Lizzy Borden gets mentioned.

If it feels like cursed language that no mortal should hold why are you tweeting it, Katie? Now we're all cursed.

Yea this. Apple Mail is a terrible Exchange client. Apple's Calendar app is a terrible Exchange client. There are tons of other features that are part of Exchange that aren't replicated anywhere in any of the Apple apps (in fairness there are features in desktop Outlook that aren't in the iPhone app still as well). Also I work for the state now and we have security requirements that the Apple Mail app doesn't meet. Our iPhones are all managed devices just like our Windows PCs or Apple MacBooks and some of the security requirements are dictated by Federal agencies.

Yeah...so that's exactly what's been in our living room the last 17+ years...still play CDs, tapes, and records with it. Man, we're old.

We had a rack system and when we moved I couldn't figure out how to put it all back together so I tossed it.

That's an 80s or early 90s stereo there. By the end of the 90s, the flat black rectangles were replaced with gray and silver with angles faceted in all directions as if they were trying to make them look like Transformers.

I still use my 1992 Pioneer rack as my desktop speakers. The CD aux is connected to the PC and the tape player quit working a few years ago. So really it's just a radio and equalizer now. But the speakers are so damn loud I won't give them up until they die. Or I do, at which point my wife will probably toss them.

Those were the smaller less expensive versions. I had a similar one that had a record player on top.

The coolest feature was when you adjusted the volume using the remote the mechanical knob would rotate!

Bombadil's not likely to be a Maiar, as the Ring had no power over him, while it did have power over the other Maiar. Possibly he's an Ainur, but Tolkien was deliberate about keeping what he truly was a mystery, though he rejected at least one explanation people put forth (that he was the living embodiment of Eru Ilúvatar).

This guy has read The Silmarillion.

As one should!

I have tried a few times to get through the Silmarillion and The Book of Lost Tales and I just haven't been able to do it. They are so incredibly dense and my memory is so terrible I'd have to take notes as I work through them
