Weekly Drawing Prompt Thread

Yeah Artefacts is correct this side of the pond (and it's what the book uses)

i have not done a 1 page dungeon contest, I should probably look into that at some point.

I AM participating in "Dungeon23" though (which is to create up a megadungeon, writing up 1 encounter per day in 2023, in a physical journal, so you eventually end up with a 365 encounter sized dungeon by the end of the year!

(Naturally i will probably give up part way through, which is why I'm writing up some prompts ahead of schedule so i've got a bit of leeway )

Happy holidays, friends!

That is quite the family! I feel like saying E I E I O

And I didn't include our two horses!

Another FF map down! Rings of Kether is an INTERESTING book. I don't recall giving it much thought before but running through it now it's a very cleverly open-ended crime investigation with a lot of crossing paths, and one of the few books (maybe the only one) that has multiple good endings.

A bugger to map though!

MY prompt from a few weeks ago was "invent an OC, then come up with their backstory" because why the f*ck not.

Anyway, here's what came out:

Very cool, Prederick! I really like the body language in all three!

It's been a moment, so I'm just going to wander in here and kickstart the thread for 2023.

Another tiefling/devil-type character, albeit one with a fairly horrible injury, because I get easily bored when I have to deal with symmetry:

IMAGE(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOqf5YQj5M7QsjBK_y5ZRLJwmf0f-pjYUgDkXwBS3alC0lQSMoVbj_MdEBMTJlIxPw13kZINW4Poabt8KISBjXa786BWh2BWkHPhh-b7hBsVHxR7hp8jAjH9CnV4N_PpDPgS3RxTyvO1NQsVFIfr3HWFBlX7dexddf2QpIhirNh9nTmbGb4aObw1L5zg/s1600/Maimed_Tiefling%202.jpg)

I've been trying to adjust my style a bit, mainly by bothering to adjust line thickness more, especially for character outlines, trying for a 'bolder' look. Any thoughts/comments?

Also I still can't draw hands consistently. Urgh.

the fact that you can draw them inconsistently still puts you one-up from AI scalpers though!

It's looking great as usual!

I FINALLY finished my next adventure module which has been in development hell for WELL over a year at this point, and included custom covers. I also decided to make this kind of a running theme, so when I get around to going back and properly revamping some of my older stuff (like this Heron dungeon) i'll be trying to stick with this theme.

That looks like the mongrel race Rav. (which I only know about from Pathfinder WotR)
You should do a take on Wenduag from that game:

Heh, thanks.

If I could get any significant project done in less than two years... I'd be considerably more productive. Looking good though!

I've avoided the Pathfinder CRPGs so far, part because I have too many other games to play, and part because they (Kingmaker and Wrath) seem to require a degree of build optimisation that goes way beyond what most CRPGs require, particularly when coupled with the expansiveness of the Pathfinder ruleset. Also, I ejected most of my D&D 3.5 smarts from my brain when our group moved to 5E, so Pathfinder system makes me feel vaguely anxious.

As for the character herself, yeah, I can see the appeal in drawing her.

Oh yeah, I knew there was some reason I was visiting this thread again...

Here's another drawing, same style but different subject:

A City of Two Tails?
I really like the style of the dragon familiar. Most dragons these days go hyper detailed with every scale, leathery bump of skin and horn is meticulously applied. Its refreshing to have a solid clean look.

Random weekly suggestion. The swords/characters from Touken Ranbu:

Also, Blaseball is back, so you could pick a team and do players from them.

Good to see everyone sharing art over here! I haven't done anything since my Christmas drawings, but maybe soon?

It's been eleven whole days since a picture was posted! Therefore I am forced to do this.

One of the rare occurrences of me bothering to draw a background. Well, most of a background.

Nice! Your clothes are always so cool!

I continue to not have drawn anything, but I was having some ideas last night when I couldn't go back to sleep, so I might do something soon...

Quick sketch I did in a meeting this morning:

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/pUXev76.jpg)

Ugh, don't remind me about cold mornings. I don't even have central heating in my current flat, so my life currently involves ensconscing myself in the meagre oases of heat produced by my two working electrical heaters while the rest of the house acts as a very large refrigerator.

I have drawn again. It's a bad habit of mine, I know, but I don't see breaking it any time soon.

That sounds waaaay too cold, Ravanon. Brrr...

The drawing is awesome! As usual, I'm impressed by the clothes!

Very well done. I love the gentle femine look in the face. So sweet.

Seems I've got the thread mostly to myself at the moment, which makes me self-conscious.

Nevertheless (cough), it's been over a week, and I'm afraid I've drawn another thing:

Super cool! This one might be one of my favorites yet!

I continue to not draw anything, but I have a feeling things might change in the next week, so stay tuned!

Agreed. I love the change in position/layout and the foreground element. It's a nice direction from your previous portraits. Nice work.

How do you feel about the Books of the Malazan Empire? The wiki might have some cool ideas for you.

Thanks (to both of you). I've long been trying to get away from the stiff posture many of my portraits have, so hopefully this is starting to finally show. Also bothering to do at least some fore/background elements.

I read all ten of the Malazan Book of the Fallen back when they were first being released (along with the first few Esselmont books), and was talking about them with a friend recently, so it's interesting you brought them up. Any particular element you had in mind?

(On a tangentially-related note, maybe it's time to reread some of those books—or read some of Erikson or Esselmont's more recent work.)

I have been reading them off and on for years. I brought Reaper's Gale on a work trip to have something to read by myself, so it was on my mind. I am getting near the end, so it's mostly about all the marines scurrying around and Hellion looking for booze. Needs more Tehol and Bugg.

Roughly blocked out a hover ship design for my TTRPG.
