NFL 2022: Super Bowl LVII thread

Wasn't he just named one of the finalists for the Arizona job? Guess he knows how that story ends.

Well, that was a report... If it was true, maybe he did not think it was the most appealing option or he didn't think his chances were the best, or maybe Minnesota made him an exploding offer and he liked the job. Who knows.

I'm sorry Carolina didn't keep Wilks but glad he ended up in a great spot with a shot at a HC job in a year or two. Now to get CMC to become a two-way player ...

For those of you uninterested in Sunday's game until about 6p Sunday (and that seems to be most of us), here's FO's All-Keep Choppin' Wood team for 2022, featuring Russell Wilson, Jonathan Taylor, Joey Bosa and at least four current and former Carolina Panthers.

Devin White, master of both the game-changing highlight play and the blown coverage assignment, makes the team:

White is far, far more a poor man's Micah Parsons than a poor man's Lavonte David, and Todd Bowles needs to make sure he uses him accordingly going forward.

Yup. Trying to use Devin White in space has always been a bad idea, and a sign of how good Lavonte David actually has been is he's made Devin White passable. If David leaves the team, I don't want to think about what happens with Devin White. Please, just make him an edge rusher now.

Yeah, this has been the dullest run-up to a Super Bowl ever. So far.

But did you know the starting center on one team and the starting tight end of the other are brothers? With a moderately successful podcast?!??!?!

I take it back. Brett Favre sues Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee for defamation over pointing out that he's a crook.

Favre will be an amazing Republican Senator one day.

I bet some SI intern did it for the likes.

RONDE BARBER FINALLY MAKES THE HALL OF FAME.

Also, Revis, Joe Thomas, DeMarcus Ware, Zach Thomas, Don Coryell, Chuck Howley, Joe Klecko, and Ken Riley.

I sure hope we get to hear Kelce the Center give us another talk from the Art Museum steps this year.

Michael Irvin tells Favre to hold his beer, sues an accuser and Marriott for $100 million over allegations of misconduct that caused the NFL Network to send him home from Super Bowl coverage in Arizona. Jeebus, lawsuits are the new thing to do days prior to the Super Bowl.

Joe Thomas may well the greatest player in any sport to never make it to a playoff round in his career.

Zach Thomas is a HOFer?

Huh.

You know how they say that winning the super bowl is the pinnacle of any NFL career?

Would you rather be Joe Thomas: a six time first team all pro, two time second team all pro, 10x pro bowler, first ballot HoFer, NFL 2010's all decade and ZERO playoff appearances

Or....

Rohan Davey: a three season benchwarmer with 19 total career snaps but two super bowl rings?

Fun-related statistic. With TB12 retiring, there is one active QB with more than one Super Bowl ring. Who can name him?

G

Had to get it in, there is a good chance that statistic isn't viable by Monday morning.

Robert Horry was asked if he'd rather have his career or Barkley's.

He always says, "Barkley's."

Don't underestimate the contract value part.

Big Shot Bob is a goddamn legend

So apparently there's this big to do about the flyover on Sunday consisting of all female Navy aviators to commemorate 50 years of female Navy aviators but my thought today was, hey, isn't it a dome stadium?

Apropos of something, but I hope the blimp people filed all the right paperwork with the FAA for the game tomorrow.

Hopefully the aircraft performing the flyover will be unarmed.

So, predictions? I will admit to being petty enough I have never forgiven the Eagles for consistently beating the Bucs in the playoffs in 2000 and 2001 plus the regular season in 2002, and I continue to avidly root against them because reasons. I'm taking KC in this one, and think they can work around Philly's defensive line as long as nobody lets Mike Remmers near the locker room. Also, it seems ominous Ronde Barber was honored with his HOF selection right before the Eagles play a big game in the playoffs.

Chiefs over Eagles, 31-21.
