Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

I don't think MacGuyver runs 24/7 unfortunately, some of the channels are "themed" (like "Classic Game Shows" or whatever) and play a variety of shows around that theme, and I think I saw MacGuyver on one of those.

Continuing my exploration of Australian (and New Zealand) cuisine inspired by A_Unicycle, and after watching the relevant Bluey episode we are now having Pavlova for dessert tonight.

Wish me luck...

Right like there's a Degrassi, Stargate, Star Trek, etc. channels. They alternate through series. Sometimes Trek channel is showing TNG, sometimes TOS, etc.

And there's 90210, Baywatch, Family Ties, Happy Days, Threes Company, and others with their own channels.

But then there's like TV Land Sitcoms, Classic TV Comedies, Classic TV Families, etc. with rotating shows.

And two MST3K channels!

Gamedec (currently free on epic) is soooo good. It's basically a big, rich visual novel with lush beautiful 3D graphics and a point/click interface and a skill tree and lush beautiful worldbuilding.

It's definitely not for anyone who dislikes reading. But if you like cyberpunk and you've ever enjoyed a VN, don't miss it.

Alright, fine, I'll download it!

You got me to play it for an hour yesterday, and I'm definitely in for more.

You're not wrong that is closer to a VN than a game, but the writing and world seem interesting, so (so far), it's pulling it off.

Really pleased Gamedec went free (I expected it eventually - or that it would end up on Game Pass). It's been on my wishlist since I saw early previews, but I was never quite convinced enough to pull the trigger.

For some reason Rifftrax dropped an entire movie on their youtube channel. Gammera the Invincible.

I made six mini ones, this was by far the best.

Would you say that was a Pavlovian response?

Very positive.

My wife, mil, son, and I all loved it. (At his request, I used maraschino cherries instead of fresh fruit). It was a fun project. I hacked together Sally's Baking Addiction recipe with an Alton Brown recipe. Namely, I used Alton's recipe and technique with the following exceptions:

  • 2 tsp lemon juice instead of the vinegar
  • Added a tbsp of vanilla extract for flavor
  • Well, probably more, I never measure and I have a heavy hand
  • Spun my white sugar in a food processor for a bit to make fine sugar
  • Used the Sally's directions (and cook time) to make six mini ones instead of one big one
  • Preheated the oven to 350 (F) and then lowered to 200 (F) when I put the Pavlova(s) in
  • No kiwi, because its winter in this hemisphere, and I don't think canned kiwi exists in the States
  • I’ve had a lots of small victories so far.

Spending habits have gone down. I haven’t tried to go as hard this year.

Listening to more music and library time. Set up a little stereo set and it feels good.

Working on relationships I messed up.

    Nice!!!

My cousin's daughter is up for an Oscar for The Elephant Whisperers. So so proud of her.

    The music in White Lotus.

Today I gave my art group a woman in a saree (it might not technically be a saree but that kind of thing) walking down a beach with a water vessel balanced on her head. You couldn’t see her face but could see one hand and her feet. Everybody seemed to feel it was a very difficult subject but all but two gave it a go.

Sylvia, who likes to paint trees and not much else, was proceeding reluctantly until, at one point, she started to feel she might be getting the drawing right. After that she kept calling out things like, “I’m very pleased with my feet!”, “I’m painting my feet now, Stuart,” and, “I think my right foot is a triumph!”

It can be so satisfying when everyone at the start of the class is skeptical about a subject but, by the end of the two hours, they are all saying how much they enjoyed it and are going around the room complimenting each other on how well they did.

That first time after you've been sick as a dog for a week straight when you trim your beard, take a long shower, shave your neck, and brush your teeth, and now you're still slightly congested and with a little phlegm to work out of your system and you should probably go to bed early tonight just to be sure, but dangit, you feel human again.

Maybe not the best thread for it, but I spent the last couple of days camping at Rottnest Island, which seems to be growing a kind of international following thanks to the super-cute quokkas. In keeping with the theme of the thread, I also went snorkelling for the first time in ages, which felt really good, but let's be honest, we're here for the quokkas.

I love that little smile in the first picture. Glad you had a good time!

They're generally pretty smiley looking critters. The settlement ones are particularly keen on humans, for obvious reasons.
They're apparently quite vicious to each other though. We saw a huge amount of quokkas in our stay, but not a single one that wasn't missing either a chunk of an ear or two, or multiple chunks of fur, usually both.

Territorial or food aggressive? Or something else?

My cousin's daughter worked on The Elephant Whisperers, which just won the Oscar for documentary short film!

    It's a lovely, beautiful work.

I'm just glad a movie that I've actually seen in the theater before it won/nominated the best picture award actually won.

I think that makes 2? The other? Return of the King of course. And yeah.. I turn 50 this year.

I for one am very thankful for the academy finally highlighting "Movies regular people enjoy".

    Yes EEAaO was amazing. Deserving.

Harrison Ford presenting was a nice moment for Ke Huy Quan too.

my favorite bad description of it is, the owner of a laundromat gets in trouble for doing her taxes wrong.

I am beyond thrilled for Michelle Yeoh. She's a once in a century actor.

Edit: perhaps my second favorite moment:

Also, kind of amusing that despite all his work, Ford has never won an Oscar and was only ever nominated once (and for a movie that hasn't aged the best).

    The Reddit sub r/News.

Using the Apollo app and filtering by “Top (Day)” it has some pretty good stories, all from reliable sources, that don’t normally make the front page of the various news sites.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeee! [bounces up and down with excitement.] Taskmaster series 15 starts 30th of March in the UK.

Here are two AMAs (well, probably more accurately, one AMA in two halves) that you may, or may not, be able to watch:
