NFL 2022: The Week 18 thread

Rodgers sure looks like a guy that's not expecting to step on a field again.

Man I wish the Lions had made the playoffs

#15th pick in the draft. Could of been way better if they didn't rip off that run of wins but I'll take it.

Now Rodgers just needs to demand a trade to the Jets or something for a warchest.

These Lions making me a fan.

Here's your wildcard schedule:

Seen on Twitter:

[Aaron Rodgers'] season isn't over. He's just been immunized from the playoffs.

Both the Niners and Jags on Saturday.

That's good. Gives me all of Sunday to either celebrate, or wallow.

So, OBJ!?

Black Monday!!!

So far the only BM casualty has been Browns DC Joe Woods. It's still early, tho.

PFT is reporting the Broncos have asked to speak to Dan Quinn, Raheem Morris, and DeMeco Ryans, so three defensive coordinators, as opposed to somebody offensive-minded who could theoretically help dig out of the Russell Wilson hole. Nobody's going to want the Broncos job, right? What an awful gig.

Cardinals fire Kliff.

Kyler Murray could not be reached for comment on the account that he has a few more hours of double XP in CoD.

Well... the headliners of the Broncos coaching search are still Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh.

The Broncos have talked to the Saints about trade compensation for Payton, and reportedly they are in agreement with the Saints' demands if they do choose to go with Payton.

Morris and Ryans seem like Rooney Rule box ticking.

The GM, too, though he might come back to some other Cardinals job after he deals with some health issues.

Not a very exciting DM so far, tbh.

Speaking of Harbaugh, apparently Carolina isn't interested:

Re: DEN

Which of the named coaches wants a rebuild with no draft picks? Sounds like a great way to tank your legacy. Better to wait for McCarthy to implode on Monday and snatch up a gig with tons of resources.

Re: Rooney Rule shenanigans

If the NFL were serious, they would have a collective target they expect to make with a financial penalty, paid collectively, each year. And then publicize the results so the heat keeps increasing. No billionaire is going to go for that kind of accountability, of course.

The reason Denver will likely land someone big is because the Waltons are going to open up their checkbook and write in some extra zeroes.

And if the candidate is smart, they'll insist on a deal long enough to ensure they get enough time to properly rebuild.

But I don't see any way this process ends with the Broncos not landing a big fish thanks to a pile of Walmart money. The Waltons just got this new toy and they're gonna play with it.

They re-sodded the field at Denver just for Week 18.

Yeah, when Keim stepped down a few weeks ago, I figured that was a soft resignation. Bidwell loves Keim so I'm not surprised he's going to transition into another role.

Carolina is going to interview interim coach Steve Wilks for the job, who seems to have a strong chance of landing the job.

But they're also interviewing the legend, your boy and mine, Caldwell Face!

Great news Jim, how do you feel?

Spoiler:

I've never seen Jim look so utterly thrilled.

The Panthers are also supposed to talk with Frank Reich, who was the first starting QB in franchise history.

Wilks is the choice of the team and the fanbase, but there's no telling where Tepper's head is at.

Washed up QB that you traded a ton of draft capital for. Time for that historic head coaching hire to drum up positive buzz!

Cool, I was wondering whose turn it was gonna be to employ Carson Wentz.

Guess I better start finding out what each draft QB’s favorite Bible verse is.

Wilks deserves a shot, particularly after getting fired from Arizona after 1 year so they could hire Kliff.

But I’m pulling for Caldwell Face, and Carolina will be my #4 team next season if they hire Caldwell (behind whichever team snags Derek Carr. Which could be Carolina themselves! I would cheer my ass off for the Carr-Caldwell Panthers)

Well, the Waltons didn’t buy the Broncos until June (and wasn’t approved by the rest of the league until August), so they weren’t owners back in March when the trade was done. That’s a gift the last guys left for them.

Of course, they were owners by September when they forked over the money for a contract extension for Russ. But after the trade, they were pretty much handcuffed, as Wilson had all the leverage at that point. You gotta agree to an extension before executing the trade, but the old owners no doubt wanted to leave that check for the Waltons to write.

But yeah, I expect a whole lot of Walmart money gets spent this offseason, not just on the coach, but a Jaguar-like free agent frenzy. And getting a 1st for Bradley Chubb helps offset the Russ losses.
