NFL 2022: The Week 17 thread

That's nothing. We've got to cheer for the damn Packers this week.

Because?

I've been off the grid (mostly) for the past couple of days and missed that particular memo.

Packers are playing against the Vikings, the team ahead of the 49ers for the #2 seed.

I thought only the 1 seed mattered now?

#2 gets two home games and could get a third.

I know how much we all love Drew Brees around here. Drew is helping Perdue as interim coach for their bowl game. Drew is also a brand ambassador (with equity!) for PointsBet, a NJ gambling firm.

NJ has halted betting and invalidated bets on Perdue's Citrus Bowl game.

PointsBet has ended their relationship w/Drew.

The guy can't buy a break!

Pffft. No one wants the fifth seed and have to play BEARDEDARNOLD in Charlotte.

I will admit to getting some enjoyment out of Drew Brees' post-football descent into complete asshat territory. I mean, he was always a windbag full of right-wing cliches and terrible investment advice, but, without football accomplishments to distract people, he's really just endlessly moving into Brett Favre-ish "shoot yourself in the dick constantly" territory.

Here's a Brock Purdy tidbit for you all this fine Saturday.

Purdy ran a 4.84 40, which is pretty pedestrian. 14th percentile according to MockDraftable.

However, his 10 yard split was 1.55.

That's a faster first 10 yards than Justin Fields (1.59), Johnny Manziel (1.59), Marcus Mariota (1.57), and pretty much every other QB that MockDraftable has 10 yard splits on (which, granted, is a metric missing on far more players than it's present on, but still). The only other QBs at 1.55 in the MD databat were Tebow and EJ Perry (undrafted dual threat QB on the Jags practice squad).

1.55 first 10 yards puts him faster than the average for WRs.

Obviously his 40 shows he doesn't have those extra gears to reach a blazing top speed, but that short area burst is elite for QBs not named Lamar (who we don't have numbers for because he declined to run). That quickness he's shown avoiding pass rushers is no fluke.

This. It's the difference between playing the divisional round in Minneapolis or in Santa Clara (assuming the Vikes and Niners both advance).

Now, if Primetime Cousins and beat-up Hurts want to choke in the playoffs before facing SF, we'll take that too.

I have a bad feeling about today's Panthers game.

Panther Fan spent the whole week talking about Steve Wilks (does he deserve the full-time HC job?*) and Sam Darnold (will he be back in 2023?**) and not enough time talking about the pitiful DB room tasked with stopping Tom Brady. I think the Panthers' only hope is that TB decides it wants to establish the run (not a bad idea IMO, especially if Carolina's D opts out of tackling this week) and put Brady in a lot of 3rd-and-6s.

Counterpoint: No one wants to see the Bucs in the playoffs, and Carolina is the one thing that can prevent it. Root harder, y'all.

* Absolutely he deserves it
** Oh god no please god no

So the real battle is the Panthers' defensive line against the swiss cheese that is the Bucs' offensive line vs. the Bucs skill position players against a depleted Panthers secondary.

I expect Brady gets rid of the ball within about .7 seconds every play to avoid dying, and it comes down to whether or not Chris Godwin can take one of those two-yard drag routes and take it all the way.

Refs calling forward progress on an obvious fumble. What a joke.

Teddy Two Gloves with 2 passing TDs today

I'll say it again! The Colts were .500 in Week 7. They'd even beaten the Chiefs! They could've won the AFC South.
Then they benched their QB, fired their OC, fired their head coach, and hired a guy from TV to coach the team, and they're about to lose their 9th out of 10 games.

Broncos are having another Plankton day.

Panthers and Dolphins blew it. Patriots and Bucs going to survive

Panthers made it very interesting at the end, but the Bucs get to be the NFC South team to lose at home in the first round of the playoffs.

Giants in the playoffs. Genuinely can't believe it.

Don't even care if we lose by 30, this year has been a colossal success, extend Daboll until 2070.

Aaaaaand that's it for the Panthers. Damn they were entertaining this year. I haven't said that in a couple of seasons.

Now Panthers Twitter can go back to dreaming about the QB they'll draft with the 8th overall pick in April.

He has to be a contender for coach of the year.

If someone had just kept their helmet on after a game winning TD...

Niners getting embarrassed by the AFC West again. Also, Derek Carr is never going to be hired as a starting quarterback ever again.

Evan showed flashes but no regrets seeing him gone. He lost games because of his lack of focus including fumbles, drops, tips etc

Vikings are cooked.

I need the TV to switch to the Niners game please.

Indianapolis: "We'll see about that!"

Mark Sanchez casually dropping GoldenEye N64 and Montgomery Ward references.

?

Called it after the fumble. Now GB putting together an 85? yard quarter ending drive to go up 4 scores. It's even more over.

I think he was calling the Vikings the frauds. Which, yes. Paper tiger!

They're amazing. I can't remember the last 12-3 team that everyone outside of their state agrees is a total fraud.

f*ck Kirk Cousins.
