Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC, and Android

I'd love a console date for Darktide, but none yet outside of "a few weeks after PC launch". I need to slaughter some hordes on my comfy couch in the basement.

I got Darktide through GamePass, realized you can't play with friends who preorderded on Steam (Yet, they said coming "soon"), and immediately bought it on Steam. What a great game so far!

Not sure it's been posted anywhere yet, but Monster Hunter Rise is coming to Xbox and to Game Pass on January 20.

Also, there are indie demos coming, from Dec. 6-12. These include Thirsty Suitors and Inkulinati.

I have really gotten hard back into DRG. What a good game.

I have a question I am sure someone here can answer for me. If I get Game Pass for PC and download TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, and a friend gets the game on Steam, can we crossplay? Also, do I need to pay for anything else besides Game Pass, like a tier to actually play online? Thanks!

I can't answer directly, but cross-platform play is on a per-game basis. For example, I can play with Steam players while playing Dead By Daylight on Gamepass, but can not with Deep Rock Galactic.

According to a quick Google search, TMNT is crossplay between Game Pass PC and Steam.

You don't need anything else other than Game Pass to play online.

Thank you!

I’m enjoying High on Life so far. If you like other work by Justin Roiland (such as Trover and Accounting+) you know what to expect from the writing. This one’s an FPS in space where all your weapons are alive and talk to you.

I've played the first two bosses and I'm enjoying it too.

But I agree. I'd add that I think the inverse is true too, if you really don't like Roiland's sense of humor, you're going to be in for a rough go. The game looks pretty good, but I don't think the underlying mechanics are meaty enough to offset not liking the jokes.

I wonder if the "time to complete" estimate includes watching "Tammy and the T-rex" in its entirety...

I also didn't realize some of the treasure chests can't be reached until you get other abilities and weapons. I don't think that was clear at all. So on the first level I warped to I wasted a lot of time trying to get to a box, that I now realize required the shotgun disc thingie.

So even if you're a completionist, it's not worth obsessing over getting every box until you have all the weapons and abilities (you can return to different levels to collect them later if you want).

High on Life is not a great shooter, it is a hilariously funny series of TV episodes that happen to involve a controller and some shooting. I'm enjoying the hell out of it, but that's because it feeds into enough of my childish sense of humor I find it good enough to overcome the so-so shooting.

There’s actually four full-length movies in the game, Tammy is the first and the rest are gated by story progress.

This. I was curious if they’d just jump to later parts of the movie but they move to different movies.

As stated above it’s not a great shooter. I switched to “story mode” to lower the amount of time I have to spend shooting. I haven’t bothered to go back to any previous locations to collect chests I’ve missed. You do need to adventure around a bunch to get everything. Some chests contain loot other than money but none (so far) that’s made me think it was worth it. I haven’t finished it yet tho.

If you end up playing it in the same room as your young kids I highly recommend headphones. My kids commented that the guns are really cute but thankfully they can’t hear anything being said or done.

Does anyone here know if the xbox live _> gamepass ultimate conversion deal is still a thing? My Gamepass runs out tomorrow and I'm going to be due for a renewal. Last time I bought a couple 1 year codes and a 6 month code for xbox live and converted the whole thing to ultimate for $1.

It should still work. I had a friend convert three years of Gold with one month of Game Pass less than a week ago.

BTW, if you sign a kid up for Game Pass, they do not get the EA Play access with it as long as they are using child accounts. Quite the annoying issue.

Gorogoa and The Pedestrian are leaving GamePass on Jan 1st. Two of the best puzzle games you can play on GP.

I got 3 years of Live to convert and the codes (from Costco) were US region codes instead of Canada. I now have 3 years of Live that won't convert to Canadian Gamepass. Microsoft won't help me. Only recourse is to go back to Costco and tell them the codes were American.

What gets me is Microsoft happily let me redeem US codes on my Canadian account without a warning but now they won't change it to Canadian so I can actually use it. 3 hours discussing with customer service and nothing. Maddening beyond belief. Looks like I'm off to fight with Costco about selling misrepresented codes.

EDIT: Third time's the charm. Third CS rep of the day was as jolly as old St. Nick. He just switched it over in 5 minutes without a pause.

That's the customer service life hack. Just try again til you get an outcome you're happy with.

I teach negotiations and we call that tactic “switching out the negotiator.” Classic move.

The second guy was amazing really. He just kept going around and around in circles gently insinuating that my keys were somehow sketchy and that everything would be fixed when we had an "answer" from Costco. I still have no idea what the "answer" was or what magical effect it would have on me. I was on web chat with him for over 2 hours and went around and around. It felt very much like trolling a scam caller except I was the one being trolled.

These are very good. I abandoned both of them when the difficulty started to ramp up and my brain began to melt, but I enjoyed them a lot until that point. Recommended to puzzle fans.

Gorogoa is an all-time favorite. Hoping to squeeze in The Pedestrian in the next few days.

Leaving January 15

  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Nobody Saves The World (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Pupperazzi (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • The Anacrusis (Game Preview) (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • We Happy Few (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Windjammers 2 (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Highly recommend playing Nobody Saves The World before it leaves Gamepass. It's about 15 hours, so there's probably time to finish it before it goes. It's a brilliant subversion of the diablo-style ARPG which almost made it to my GOTY list last year.

A shame about Danganronpa leaving, but that's one you shouldn't rush.

A reliable source suggests there will be an Xbox showcase on January 25, which will provide more details about upcoming games, with (hopefully) release dates, plus Game Pass news.

This is confirmed now. Games featured will include The Elder Scrolls Online, Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends, and Redfall. Nothing on Starfield, as that will get its own separate presentation at some point.

As a fellow Canadian who just got my notice that my 3-year Xbox Gold to GamePass Ultimate is expiring and I'm entering the $16.99 a month era (lol not doing that) I'm thankful you test-ran this. Costco still has the best price $5 a month for GamePass still seems like it's worth the hassle of having to navigate MSoft Customer Support.

Although...

I'm a bit conflicted. It's a great deal for me. But that means the buck is passing to someone else. Microsoft is clearly subsidizing GamePass and customer acquisition with its other lines of business and I've listened to some good podcasts and read some good articles outlining Microsoft's Uber-esq strategy of gobbling up market share through subsidized pricing (MSoft leveraging Cloud revenues, Uber burning VC cash) to cement a nearly unassailable market position from which their market power leads to them being able to dominate an entire industry. The writing is absolutely on the wall that this is Microsoft's intention. So then my question is, by taking the "good deal for me" am I just contributing and supporting a pretty awful video game future where Microsoft owns the Cloud Gaming space and can make unilateral market-shaping decisions that impact ten's of thousands of lives and livelihoods? (probably a better discussion for the Great Video Game Finance thread but thought it's relevant here and wondered if anyone else has grappled with this dissonance)

To my mind, it's the difference between buying a game at Target for the full $60 vs being a savvy shopper and finding a copy online in a sale for $30.

You're not impacting the $60 purchaser with your $30 purchase. You're not doing anything underhand, you're simply taking advantage of a legitimate offer.

Don't sweat it.

And to the point of you "supporting Microsoft", they're so big that you are negligible to them. Your singular purchasing decision won't make a whit of difference.

I sometimes think about purchases in that way. My thoughts are that game making right now and more than likely in the future is a craft that can be done by small teams/individuals. They can make great games. I often buy small games on sale just because the idea/sound/graphics/theme appeal to me. Often I play them for an hour and never touch them again. I treat them like teenage me treated magazines. Sometimes I play them for a long time. I support the little guys and the big guys because I've liked games my whole life. I don't play as much now but I'm still interested. I can support the little guy even if I don't play as much and in doing so I still get my enjoyment. I never buy a game that isn't on sale...that's just me. Play and shop guilt free!
