Welcome folks, and happy “239th Anniversary of the first appointment of Pitt the Younger as Prime Minister of Great Britain” week!

In 1793, England was still reeling from losing its war with America. The King, under pressure, dismissed the government and installed a 24-year-old William Pitt as Prime Minister. Many at the time thought it was a stop-gap appointment that wouldn’t last past Christmas, but Pitt went on to keep the job for 8 years. You may all celebrate by playing a game where one of your characters blossoms unexpectedly.

Here we are, the week before Christmas. Does anyone have time to start a big new game right now? The major publishers don’t think so. The list is fluffed out with ports, DLC, and indies made by one person on RPG maker: the 80% of the games sausage that you ignore most of the time, extruded out in a continuous paste. There’s nothing nutritious here. Go and be with your loved ones instead.

Wave Break is that skate-boating game from March. Wally and the FANTASTIC PREDATORS is a pixellated roguelite from 2019. Project SNAQE is a glowed-up version of a 1978 game. Valkyrie Profile is the latest result of Sony’s project to port PSP games to the PS5 and PS4. Call me when they bring all the God of War games over.

There’s no GOTW this week, none of them deserve it. Instead, the GOTW goes to you, the GWJ community, for being the best 3D, open-world-with-stealth-elements, Castlevanioid RPG—one that goes deep on crafting, has a charming hand-drawn art style, yet doesn’t give you icon fatigue.
