NCAA Basketball 2022-2023 Catch-all

FRESNO STATE dominated their Power 5 bowl opponent as usual, smashing Washington State 29-6 in a game that wasn't even as close as that score.

Sir, this is a Wendy's.

Oh wait it's the basketball thread. Football is that way...

And down goes Kentucky. I thought they'd show out better. They looked decent when they tied it at 40, but never seemed to have a consistent answer at either end. Miscues in the last 2 min sealed the deal.

Cats still have no quad 1 wins. Looking like a sweet 16 ceiling. Maybe a 1st weekend trip home.

UCLA looked pretty good. Gonzaga looked more complete today after settling down. Alabama came out firing on all cylinders, but started messing up back to back to back possessions. Drew Timme and his Old Man's Game really took over.

UVA also looked hot to start, and then Houston shifted out of neutral.

The nightcap game with NCSU / Vanderbilt looks to be an absolute snoozefest.

This is what I get trying to post from the car.

Vols lost it in the second half to lose to #9 Arizona at Arizona 75-70 IIRC. Good game. The whistles went the reverse of last year when Arizona lost in Knoxville and got in foul trouble. This time, Tennessee had the fouls on the away court, and the shooting cooled off in the second half. Also, our 5* freshman Phillips just didn't show up. He's young, so he's going to learn from these.

I had expected to lose this one, but it's probably good to give them stuff to work on. We're still missing JJJ, who's probably our best leader and best defender.

One more game before the SEC games start.

0-12 achieved. I feel terrible for the players. Our next game is home on Wednesday against UT Arlington who is somehow 25 spots below us on Kenpom, and is likely the last time we will be favored. With the holidays and break, no one will be in the stands. The players have to be feeling the pressure as hey know this has to be a win or it may break them (if they're not already broken).

Good luck buddy.

Who was the last D1 team to go winless? Has it happened?

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...

NJIT in 2007-08 is the closest.. the better question is has their been any power conference team that's gone winless, and the answer is no.

Baylor went winless in the 50s but they were part of the SWAC then.

And Cards lose to Lipscomb. That's probably it. 2 win season

In other news, Wake handled Duke easily.

UConn got a 3-quarter scare from Georgetown

Miss St got their first loss, to a nobody.

I don't want to jinx it but Cal is up 26 with less than 4 minutes to go. I think we're going to do it guys!

Woohoo! 1-12!

Cal is no longer the answer to this question...

Instead we are now going to be the answer to: What team endured the worst start in March Madness history to win March Madness!

START THE STREAK!!!

Congrats!

With 3 undefeated teams left.

Kentucky got owned at Mizzou tonight. Not sure if that's good or bad for our game vs them Saturday

Missouri at least plays exciting basketball this year. They were hard to watch under Conzo.

Cal lost to Utah as Pac-12 play starts in earnest... hey all 12 teams get an invite to the Pac-12 championship tournament....

So you're saying there's a chance?

That's why basketball is the best. Everyone has a chance still. Can win conference tournament and make the dance.

[checks score]

[facepalms]

This is not the season I'd hoped for.

Just when you think an athletic department can't be more incompetent.. this was on the scoreboard in Haas for the 12 fans that showed up to watch us finally beat UT-Arlington earlier this week.

42.
Cal has been severely short-handed this season, with seven of its 13 scholarship players missing a combined 42 games due to injury/illness. Wings DeJuan Clayton and Jalen Celestine, who were both expected to start, have yet to play this season due to their respective injuries.

With no one in the stands, they surely can't do a kiss-cam, dance-off, and its not like they have a lot of highlights to show... so they literally put up an excuse for our inexcusable 1-13 season.

Are you watching B1G? Can we get that invite now?

So while I know a lot of you are having bad seasons... you should be happy knowing that you can always come to GWJ and find a fan of a team that is SOOOOO much worse than yours, not just on record but as an athletic institution as a whole, and have a good laugh and say to yourself "at least we're not Cal".

GO BEARS!

quote is not edit.

And Louisville got a 3rd win... against the spread. Lost by 23! Vegas has finally started making sensible lines. No more free money.

#2 UConn lost at #22 Xavier today... was close until the very end (free throws put them behind by 10 and kept them there).

#4 Kansas survived a blistering performance in the first half by Oklahoma St to end up winning by 2.

Iowa St took down #12 Baylor.

Lots of basketball to watch.

Yeah refs let Kansas get away with murder, slammed in the head, on that game tying attempt. Disgusting.

Ooh, I didn't see the second half, so the results were a surprise. Gross.

Cal gets revenge on Colorado... their football team was the worst in the country, and of course they beat Cal for their only win.

Today Cal beats Colorado for our only Power conference win.. and who knows.. maybe sole conference win. I have no idea how good Colorado is, or if they had a chance to go to the tournament, but I'm hoping if they did we effectively ended it tonight.

Edit: right after he gets control, and decides not to pass.

How is Brandon Huntley Hatfield doing? Tennessee wanted him to stay I think, but it sounded like he and his people didn't agree with the role Rick Barnes saw for him and he really didn't want to buy in and put in the work on defense that Barnes demands.

I see statistically he looks OK, but when the team's struggling, not sure what that means. Hope the kid gets what he wants.

My Vols found their offense last night. Where's that been? Hope it stays around. Smoked Mississippi State, who's defense was actually pretty highly ranked.
