After many months I got to the end (so far) of Bosch and Bosch Legacy last night. Just a really solid show, maybe not outstanding in any one way, but consistently high quality. I'll miss it!

You won't have to miss it for long. Bosch Legacy season 2 is due to release in 2023!

Opps, wrong thread.

In news that was almost specifically designed to make me excited, Henry Cavill is set to produce and star in a Warhammer 40k series for Amazon.

So is this the actual reason he left The Witcher?

It’s possible but the rights are still being negotiated so even production isn’t starting anytime soon. It’s more likely just coincidental.

He's been working with Gamers Workshop on a WH show for almost a decade now it seems...

Finished The Peripheral last night and as far as time travelling paradox shows go, I thought it was a definite cut above the usual fair. Well acted, nothing too improbable (apart from some of the English actors slightly over- egging their Cockney / Scottish / Irish / mix of all 3 accents) and sort of sets up season 2.

Is there a season 2? Anyone familiar with the book know if the first season ends with the book's plot line?

There's quite a bit of the book left to explore, but they diverted quite a bit too so who knows where they'll end up...

Edit: There's also the 2nd book in the series. Agency which is a new story in the same universe

Peripheral Episode 5 had a crazy and satisfying reveal.
It was the best of the series so far.

When I was watching it by myself, I tired of some of the more upscale parts of The Peripheral. The condescending forced nonchalance of fancy TV villains really grates my nerves. However, I do like the run-down North Carolina small town with a 3D printing shop that's just a mom'n'pop. That's really interesting in its implications.

Watching it with my 19yo I can let some of that go and just enjoy what I enjoy from it.

FTFY and for what it's worth Gibson is from TN and usually has some sort of shoutout in most of his books to it.

There was a Tennessee Highway Patrolman in episode one, with slightly different livery on his vehicle vs the current SUV's, so I assumed it was a border town like up near Deals Gap. Think it even had THP on his uniform. Looking it up, looks like the town was on the NC side like you say, though. Must have just been getting coffee.

I do have some annoyances with props, though. That damn aquarium was full of African cichlids. Woman was talking about guppies and other stuff that would never survive with those territorial fish. Then the deputy at times doesn't know how to hold a gun, but other times does. Kind of weird. Etc. But that's all nitpicky on my part.

I've enjoyed the show all the way up to the finale, which I'll watch tonight. I get some of the complaints, but it's well produced and not trying to be too smart for it's own good (Westworld).

Finished The Peripheral and loved it.
I need more so I am going to read the book(s).
Lowbeer is awesome and instantly kicked the show into a couple gears higher.

Amazon recommended "Three Pines" to me in a mobile notification.

Then I booted up Prime Video, and couldn't find it anywhere even checking the different recommendation areas, the Prime Video free for me area, etc. Instead it was just a mountain of crap I don't want to watch.

I ended up having to manually search for it. The incompetence of these companies that want us to watch stuff, and have all our data, is mind boggling at times.

Now that I'm actually watching it, I'm liking it so far. It's Alfred Molina as a chief inspector in Montreal, but the series mostly focuses on the (disproportionately murderous, apparently!) small town of Three Pines.

Characters sometimes speak in French, and the main story thread involves crimes against indigenous peoples (the main background mystery is the disappearance of an indigenous girl and how little effort police seem to put into finding folks like her, in general).

Each mystery is two episodes, so there's four "arcs" in season 1. The third is the weakest, I think. But the detective work is pretty low tech and satisfying if you want a change of pace from CSI and panopticon level CCTV solving every case.

Although indigenous folks are a big thread throughout the series, none of those characters get much screen time. One of the investigators has indigenous heritage but was raised by white parents, and the series could definitely stand to dig more into that perspective.

I think if you like detective stuff, it'd hit the spot, and it avoids a lot of the grimdark tropes of the genre like the genius serial killer so far. Granted, the historical context of the horrible schools is dark because the history is awful, but I more mean how every crime and criminal in these types of shows ends up being the most depraved version you can imagine, it sidesteps that temptation, I think.

Not all tropes, his dream visions end up recurring so often they came across as goofy to me, but enough that I'm finding it as hitting that crime procedural sweet spot without being completely cookie cutter.

Saw some clips on Twitter of Mr D, a Canadian comedy show starring Gerry Dee.

It's on prime for us Americans. But it's leaving this week. He said on Twitter that episodes will be available on his web site soon. So maybe can still watch. But I'm going to try to binge season 1 at least, while I can.

For me it was one of the banner recommendations for almost a month before i started watching it.

Me too, but I decided to wait until all the episodes were out. Which I guess they are now, so probably a good time to dive in.

Just finished it! I stand by my earlier assessment, with the third arc being the weakest.

Three Pines Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Ending on a cliffhanger seems like a bold move, given the state of streaming cancelling stuff at the drop of a hat.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Season 3

Wow this release was weirdly timed.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Season 3

I was impressed that in the finale they had access to an actual US Navy destroyer and only later remembered that Michael Bay is an EP and then it totally made sense.

Funny, if you had asked me yesterday I'd have said with 100% certainty that Carnival Row had been cancelled. Looking forward to it!

I think I read that this is its final season. Let's hope this season ends the series gracefully.

Thought this was cancelled also. Also I remember I liked it but don't remember anything about the show. I thought it was like all female x-men show but is some other show that probably did get cancelled.

You might be thinking of HBO's The Nevers?

Oh yeah that is the one.

Hunters: Season 2

It feels almost like an homage to The Godfather, Part II, only this time Al Pacino's the one appearing in the flashbacks. Also, did Udo Kier (aka Yuri from Red Alert 2) get that old or did they age him up to play older Hitler?

I watched the 1977 Suspiria the other day, which has a young Udo Kier. That was interesting.

Man I love that film. I firmly still believe all dance schools should have a barbed wire room installed for “reasons”

Love me some Argento. Now go find his other movies.

Hunters Season 2, Episode 7

That was infinitely better than the prologue to Inglorious Basterds.
