Cyberpunk Catch-All

$30 on Steam. I am sorely tempted to try it again on the Steam Deck. I didn't think it was a bad game but I bought at release when it was pretty rough.

Should I take the plunge for $30?

It'll probably be even cheaper by the time the expansion comes out, if you can wait.

"If I can wait" Ha I have a backlog a mile long. I probably need to just stop opening any email from Steam so I am not tempted.

You and me Vector.

I spent most of the playthrough wondering if he was that annoying on purpose (kind of a satire of pompous revolutionaries) or if he was supposed to be cool.

(FWIW, I also wasn't entirely sure if Keanu was doing the best he could with the material or doing a mediocre-at-best job.)

And yet! Still an 8/10!

I installed it on my Steam Deck just out of curiosity to see if it would run, and now over the weeks I've put dozens of hours into it, just futzing around with a new run.

It's playable, but not the optimal way to play. I think maybe I'm running into more bugs because the Deck is struggling to keep up. Like I see T-posing, hard crashes, audio glitches, and other bugs I rarely run into on my desktop.

Personally, I think the Deck is fun for a replay if you like the game and have played it before (a lot has improved since 1.0/1.1/1.2, but it's still fundamentally the same game). And the game doesn't look terrible on the Deck, but when I boot it up on desktop/XSX (cross progression FTW), the difference in quality is jarring.

If you've previously only played it on console, the Deck is also a neat opportunity to try out mods.

If nothing else in your game pile is calling out to you, IMO it's worth it.

I do like that I can be a dick to him constantly. There’s at least that.

Agreed, I love being a dick right back at him.

In the tabletop rpg he's I don't want to say unlikeable in every way, but he's not meant to be cool. In his earliest story appearance he's an out of his depth rockstar whose girlfriend (Alt) gets kidnapped and hires a bunch of mercs to get her back. Rogue already has history with him and hates him but goes along because she owes him a favour. His main contribution to the rescue attempt is to stage a concert outside the Arasaka offices as a distraction.

Spoiler:

In a twist at the end, he could have saved Alt if he had just plugged her body back into her cyberdeck but he thinks she's dead and I think he just leaves.

1.61 adds FSR 2.0!

But you may want to hold off if you're on PC and using mods. It breaks some in a way that causes a crash on launch.

I had to delete my mod directories and verify files to get it working again.

Redscript and cybercmd seem to be the current culprits, but there could always be other mods that don't play nice, too.

My god that's delightful.

WOW

Reminds me of the videos like that from Dishonored.

So a friend on Steam showed a screenshot of the Quadra Type-66 Javelina car, and it looked REALLY cool, so I followed this article on how to get it:

My god what a joy it is to drive. It hugs the road so well it's almost as maneuverable as a motorcycle. Plus I love how it looks, and it's sooo speedy. This is gonna be my default vehicle for a while.

I also reached the "point of no return" but have a bunch of gigs and side stuff I need to do, so I'mma not do that yet. When this game ends, does it END or can you keep tooling around Night City once you reach the end?

It never ends. After the credits there's a button that says "Another gig", and it drops you back at the point of no return. If you don't, I think it still creates an autosave that deposits you there anyway.

You keep your ending rewards, but none of the other loot from the last mission (I still compulsively loot everything). Otherwise it's as if you never ended the game and you can keep doing any gigs/missions still available.

There is no post-game content.

Some endings depend on finishing certain questlines. But you could theoretically complete the Arasaka endings. Then do the nomad quests. Then do the nomad ending. Then do the Johnny quests. Then do that ending. And so on.

On my next run I might see how quickly I can get to the ending. I'm curious if I could finish the game without assigning any attribute points.

Yes, the Javelina was one of my favorites to drive around.

I think I ended up exploring most/all of the endings starting from that last save point.

I just fired up the game tonight; my last save was from July 2021, and was from well after I finished the game. I had gone back with the idea of finishing the rest of the achievements but gave up at about 91%. I didn't have the patience to get the money for all of the cars, and there were a couple of others that didn't interest me enough.

Also that last save version for me was 1.23 or something like that. So when I played tonight I would have had to re-assign all my Perk points, update all my clothing mods, etc. I'll probably start a fresh game when/if the DLC appears and say goodbye to another 150+ hours.

AMD FidelityFX support for current-gen consoles: is there supposed to be an option in the menus?

Unfortunately, it looks like no:

https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/news/46420/patch-1-61-list-of-changes

Added support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.1 (PC and next-gen consoles only).

Cross-progression also now has a warning that it won't work between different patch versions on Xbox. I'd guess that's setting the stage for how future content updates like the expansion won't be coming to Xbox One/PS4.

Oh I meant to say “new-gen” instead of current

On PC it's a toggle. On consoles it's apparently just automatic:

And replaces (complements? The finer points elude me a bit) the "temporal anti aliasing" CDPR was using to help with graphics/performance on consoles.

Finished on Friday. Went with the Nomad background and romanced Panam. Naturally that lead me to go with the Aldecados for the finale. By going with them, it feels like you’re ignoring pretty much the entire plot of the game.

Spoiler:

I chose to suppress Johnny. Adam Smasher is just a scary boogie man who is looking for Rogue. He literally screams “WHERE’S ROGUE!?”. So the entire finale is just a ragtag group getting in and out. Practically ignoring every plot point that the game laid out previously. It’s impressive but narratively hollow.

Amazed at how well this game did for CD Projekt.

And yet their stock price is still a quarter of what it was right before the game bombed on launch.

The anime drove a bunch of new interest, didn't it?

And they've already confirmed the obvious, that there will be a sequel, right?

Say goodbye to company's ever caring about selling broken games. Money talks.

I think that ship sailed a long time ago with "day one patches" etc. but hopefully consumers will take back a bit of the control they have and stop doing pre orders. Then at least they can wait for reviews and the game to be in people's hands before purchasing

Prederick wrote:

Yup. They announced 5 games with one of them being the Cyberpunk sequel. The other ones being the next Witcher game, a Witcher 1 remake, their first original IP, and a co-development Witcher game.
