MLB 2022 Season

sh*t. Rickey Henderson, Ted Williams, Willy Mays, Cal Ripken Jr., Cy Young, Ozzie Smith. I'm definitely going down a rabbit hole on this one.

Yeah, I love it as a head-scratcher. Narrowing it down to 10 is so hard.

And you are absolutely right about pre-Ruth players. Foolish Baseball put Jim Creighton and Albert Spalding on his list, and if non-players are allowed, Kenesaw Mountain Landis and Bud Selig are just huge figures.

It's such a good, hard question.

Verlander is a Met.

Well, that's how you replace DeGrom.

I'd say something about "he can't keep this up much longer," but the dude literally JUST WON the Cy Young with a sub-2 ERA at 39, so betting against him seems like a fool's errand.

And I thought the only balls we'd discuss this month were Pulisic's.

Major League Baseball used two balls again this year, and evidence points to a third

I'll wait for confirmation from literally anyone who is not Jon Heyman.

He retracted his comment and said it was a mistake.

That's not why I posted it.

Still a yank. Burning down the house that built for $40m a year. Yankees have 3 players with contracts with over $300m now.

I'm bummed Judge returned to the Yankees, and didn't go to the Giants. I obviously don't know what went into it, but it's hard for me to see why he'd return. The under bid he for a new contract all year. Then the posted what they offered, which irritated Judge. The Yankee crowd got really fickled toward the end of his race to 62. They actually booed him when he got a hit and it wasn't a home run. Really? Just seem's to set up the rest of his career in the Bronx...don't do 'amazing' and get booed. Not something most folks wouldn't look forward.

If you'd like to know about what the Mets just did:

Carlos Correa to the Giants. I guess that's all she wrote for Brandon Crawford.

Won't they just shift him over to 2nd or 3rd? His contract is only for the upcoming season and I imagine everyone wants him to retire as a Giant.

Literally the first thing I read after I left my PC for the night.

I would imagine Crawford would shift to 3rd next year and fill in at SS every once a bit and Thairo Estrada should play 2nd. Crawford will be 36 at the start of the season and in his final year and wouldn't be surprised if he retires after next season.

Welcome to hell Carlos, hope you pitch well.

That feels... crazy.

Carlos Correa to the Giants Mets. Unf*ckingbelievable.

EDIT: Via Buster Olney

Every member of the Mets' projected infield has at least two All-Star appearances. Their No. 1 and No. 2 starting pitchers should be unanimous selections for the Hall of Fame. The Mets' closer struck out 50 percent of the batters he faced last season.
See a discernible before and after?
Mets payroll:
2014 $84m
2015 $101m
2016 $135m
2017 $154m
2018 $150m
2019 $158m
2020 $79m* (Pandemic season)
2021 $195m
2022 $264m
2023 $380m (and counting)

The Mets reportedly pulled off the free agent shocker of the offseason by signing Carlos Correa overnight, just hours before the Yankees welcomed their free agent prize in Aaron Judge back to the Bronx.

Asked about Steve Cohen’s historic spending spree that has now reached $800 million this winter, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner praised what is to come for the city of New York, while also adding that such a spending spree is something that needs to be “looked at.”

“It's great to have two great New York teams. We’re not gonna be great this year…I just think it's great for the city and great for the fans,” Steinbrenner said.

“I think it’s something to be looked at. Another thing I said in March, which I truly believe, is that every fan of every team, nobody should have to go into spring training thinking their team has no chance of making the playoffs. That’s just not good for the game. That’s why all the owners have worked on competitive balance the last 10 years, and why I think competitive balance is significantly better than it was 10 or 15 years ago.”

I am a Yankee fan, and I want to make clear, this is some absolutely sucker sh*t.

Carlos Correa to the Giants Mets Twins.

I really didn't want him back with the contracts he was being offered but six years is fine.

That's a lot of fun if the Twins don't also back out after the physical. I'd rather see him there than with the Mets.

I'd like to hear a doctor explain in plain (or as plain as medical-speak can get) english what it is exactly that's scaring these teams so much. All I've seen thus far is some vague 'surgically repaired ankle doesn't look as good as teams expected"

Maybe he has cankles?
