Yup same here. They've given me do many free hours of entertainment. This is just a donation to then at this point.

Kitfox has a bunch of dev videos on their YouTube channel if you would like to see more preview stuff.

Looks like I haven't played DF since 2009.

And you're the first person I think of when I see a headline about dwarf fortress.

He does have that sort of busy dwarf name, aye.

Cool. Looking forward to this one. I've been holding off on firing up DF for about 2 years waiting on the Steam release.

I don't know why I've been waiting for the Steam release, as I've always been happy knocking around in the LNP, but I'm delighted to see an actual release date.

My family are going to hate it, but sacrifices must be made.

I haven't played since the 40d version. I probably played it around 2010 using the "Getting Started with Dwarf Fortress" book.

I tried it long, long ago, before I had (re)discovered Roguelikes, and I've been waiting for the graphical update since the 2000's to save my brain having to image everything itself. And all the keys to remember. This will be a real chance for the game to become more accessible.

I am desperately trying to finally launch a rocket in Factorio before this comes out.

I just started doing the same this week. Looking at the graveyard of abandoned saves though...not too sure I'll get there this time either. LOL

The publisher did a play through of the steam version that you can watch.

I'm kinda terrified of falling down that rabbit hole again.

Looks fantastic. Definitely gave me the urge to play again.

I've not kept up on development but I hope they've fixed some fortress killing bugs like ghost you can't bury/memorialise wrecking your fort.

My preference would be to options to turn off ghosts etc all together.

In my latest bouts (2019-2021) I had no problem memorializing my dwarves that I recall, thou it could get difficult to manage if you reclaim a fort and have 100s of corpses lying around. But still, It wasn't game breaking as it was when the only option for preventing ghosts rising was to literally find whatever remained of your dead dwarf to place on a tomb, with said "remain" usually being a finger lying 90+ levels below on a spider- infested underground forest.

There was a specific bug where if a caravan guard got killed they weren't showing up in the list to memorialize. That bug was pretty much what drove me away from DF losing good forts to ghosts I couldn't get rid of.

Today's the day!

Christmas Day?

For some, it's better than Christmas Day!

SalfordSal is playing.

The earth has been struck.

And it is so much prettier!

And bought. I'll have to try it tonight.

I do wish the tutorial let you pick a start location. I guess there's the danger you'd pick a place with no trees or something and the tutorial would soft lock (add a skip button to the tutorial popups tho) but if I play a tutorial I'm playing a throwaway fort. I'd rather just gooooooooooooooooooo

I have a feeling that despite over a thousand Rimworld hours, my first forts are all going to be throw-away... tutorial or not

Losing is fun.

Damn it, FINE I'll wishlist it.
