NFL 2022: The Week 11 thread

Come now, I'm sure he's got "Pony" and "Pour Some Sugar On Me" in there, at a minimum.

Back on topic, the hell are Dallas doing to Minnesota (beyond beating the sh*t out of them)?

Also, if this score holds, the Vikings will be 8-2 with a negative point differential.

Now can they fire Nathaniel Hackett?

Maybe they will ask Peyton Manning to coach.

Ravens defense forcing turnovers to hold the lead. Good times.

That game was excruciating. Panthers D prevented Lamar from doing Lamar things. Ravens D prevented the Panthers from doing anything.

The Ravens sure didn't want to prevent the Panthers from doing Panther things.

Zach Wilson appears to be having an accountability problem. Gee, the guy who banged one of his mom's best friends has trouble being held accountable for things. Who would have thought?

Cordarrelle Patterson now has the all time TD Kick Return record at 9. Feels like nobody will break that.

The statistical comparisons that Zach Wilson is drawing today: Johnny Manziel, Josh Rosen, Jamarcus Russell.

That was a nice one yesterday too.

And yeah with the league all but eliminating kickoff returns... record should stand

Zach Wilson might legitimately be the new Gabbert.

I am now officially predicting Jimmy Garoppolo as the week 1 starting quarterback for the 2023 New York Jets.

And the de-Wilsoning begins:

Robert Saleh: Jets not committed to starting QB Zach Wilson on Sunday vs. Bears

Would this be the same Zach Wilson raised by the anti-mask MAGA mommy who went full Karen against Disney World over having to wear a mask? No accountability? Can't imagine where he learned that.

Zach Ertztttzzzzttttzzzztzttttz is inactive tonight.

Seems like it’s going to be a good Jimmy G night.

Pretty obvious who the Mexican fans are cheering for, when the stadium yelled "JUIIIIICE" on Juszczyk's carry.

Now I know what T-shirts to pack if I ever go to Mexico City.

Speaking of Kick Return records the longest punt return for a TD is somehow 103 yards.

Something this wacky has to involve the Saints somehow.

Same thing they count yards if received in the endzone I believe.

Can the NFL viewing public be treated to an early Christmas present of Deshaun Watson throwing 8 picks in his debut against his old team while the Houston crowd chants "RA-****" so loud and constantly that it can't be edited out of TV broadcast?

It would even be okay if Jacoby Brisket comes off the bench to win the game.

My somehow was not that but that someone actually returned a punt from the end zone. 99.9% of the time it’s a touchback.

Given that play was 10 years ago and they only NOW have a winning record is argument #1 for contraction and relegation rules.

Hey, now, Mark Sanchez is one of the most successful QBs in Jets history.

Aaaaaand . . . that's argument #2.

He has one more Super Bowl ring than most.

I misread the data in the link and thought Sanchez had been a backup for someone important. Blane Gabbert, for instance, isn't generally regarded as a Super Bowl champion, but there he is.

I have to say, it is shocking what the scope of Christian McCaffrey's impact on the 49ers offense has been.

I mean, it's no surprise the guy can play, but his presence has been transformative. My expectations were measured given the fact he would be joining a notoriously complex offense with zero preparation time. But it almost seems like it doesn't matter, because they've changed the offense to mold it around him.

I know we've chatted about the Garoppolo passing heat maps earlier this season, and how everything is over the middle of the field:

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/TPf6pHB.jpg)

People on YouTube have posted breakdowns about times when defenses have clogged up the middle of the field against the 49ers, and caused their passing game to struggle as a result.

Acquiring McCaffrey was a direct move to punish those tactics. Since he put on a Niners jersey, CMC's primary purpose has been to attack the edges of the defense. Teams trying to cluster in the middle of the field and clog up Jimmy's sweet spot find themselves out of position for swing passes to CMC. Shanahan's gameplan has been to go to CMC early and often these past 3 games, and bully defenses out of their gameplan to squat in Jimmy's inside throwing lanes.

And of course they're increasingly lining him up as a wide receiver, something Matt Rhule insisted this offseason was "taking him out of what he does best", and was supposedly not a good way to get CMC touches with less of a beating on his body. CMC's snap rate at wide receiver has more than doubled since arriving in SF, from 10% this year in Carolina to 22% so far in SF. (And even that 10% mark was inflated by CMC's one post-Rhule game as a Panther this year, where he took 36% of his snaps at WR vs. the Rams).

I expected CMC to be a 1A/1B with Elijah Mitchell, running the staple Shanahan inside and outside zones that he would obviously already know how to do, as well as take some screen passes each week. I didn't think it was realistic for him to be a focal point of the offense so soon, and I certainly didn't see remaking the offensive gameplans around CMC coming. But right now, the Niners offensive gameplans are to use CMC to open up things for Deebo/Kittle/Aiyuk, and not the other way around. Just stunning.

Matt Rhule sucks? You don't say...

Yeah I mostly threw that part in as some red meat for Enix.
