[News] Satirical News Show Clips

I decided to just put a John Oliver clip in this thread and change the name and scope rather than start a separate thread for Oliver's stuff.

So just put any video stuff in here; Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Seth Green, etc.

Oof.

The understanding that we need to redo society because of hierarchy of oppression

Hard to hear that last comment with the other people talking but the "[We'll give] you more time." comment is the chef's kiss. "I'll give you all the rope you need. Keep talking!"

Apparently she couldn't define 'woke' because the Black lady said mean things about parents.

Bonus points for taking 18 hours to come up with that excuse and still completely whiffing on the definition.

A horrible definition because it uses so much charged language. "radical belief", "all disparity", "enforced by angry mob"

So if I want these things changed but I am not angry then it isn't woke? If I believe that some disparity is caused by discrimination but some is caused by other things then it isn't woke?

It's not just the use of blatantly charged language. It's the absolute stupidity of trying to claim that our institutions weren't built on discrimination when the Three-Fifths Compromise in our Constitution makes it perfectly clear that discrimination was absolutely baked into the political, economic, and social foundation of our country.

It's the similar stupidity of people claiming Southern states joined the Confederacy over 'states rights' while their governments at the time all wrote statements on why they were seceding that explicitly said it was over slavery with a large side of "Black people are naturally inferior to Whites and being enslaved is just the right and proper and God-approved thing for them."

But I wouldn't expect a woman who unironically wrote that we all needed to befriend neo-Nazis to understand this.

Not going to click that link and kind of sad that there's a link to it here now.

"A radical belief system suggesting that treating strangers who want to destroy you in an identical way that you yourself would want to be treated, enforced by a tyrannical government regulation in an explicit effort to erase all inequality, real or perceived"

Cool, inflammatory language can also make the golden rule sound bad.
