My driver of the day is Nyck Devries being like "Guys? Guys? I can't get out of the car. .....guys?"

Hell of a drive, though. It's like he's he's some kind of world champion or something?

Even still, it is super impressive to get into an unfamiliar car and hold your own. I feel bad for Ric but Nyck should be on the grid next year, along with Piastri. Now we need the FIA to bring in new teams. Not just new manufactures that are going to buy some teams.

Well, with the Red Bull/Porche deal falling apart there is some speculation (no clue how based in reality though) that Porche might next consider pairing with Andretti, thereby combatting some of the hesitance the current teams expressed towards admitting him when he expressed his interest earlier this year. So, maybe?

Still, I wouldn't hold your breath.

The other teams don't want a new team, so I really doubt that's going to happen. I'd love to be wrong, but Porsche is either going to back out or partner with...Haas? It would be them or Williams and Williams is so close to Merc I don't think that would happen.

Funny enough, there actually were rumors of Williams considering breaking their ties with Mercedes in recent months. Before the McLaren dustup happened, all the chat was that assuming Alpine kept Alonso, they were going to place Piastri at Williams as the potential start of a relationship there, which might develop into Williams moving to using Renault engines in the next year or two.

So, who knows -- there might be a possibility there.

hooray............................

Yeah, uh, if we're going to lose a classic race, would much prefer (even encourage) losing Monaco over Spa. Boo.

God, F1 really is just "The Real Racecar Drivers of Monaco" isn't it?

The main focus in Singapore was firmly off track, however. Earlier it emerged the FIA was investigating the budgets of two teams, believed to be Red Bull and Aston Martin, with Mercedes principal Toto Wolff describing their alleged overspending last year as an “open secret” in the paddock.

The public dispute continued on Saturday yesterday with the Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, threatening legal action against Mercedes and accusing Wolff of “hugely defamatory, fictitious claims”.

After qualifying, Hamilton, who could have last season’s title retroactively awarded to him should the FIA find against Red Bull and choose extreme sanctions, pointedly called on the FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem to strictly enforce its rules.

“I have full confidence in Mohammed, in the way he has conducted himself to this point in terms of being strict and being clear with the rules,” Hamilton said. “The rules are the rules and those sorts of things can lead to real alterations in terms of our performance, we definitely have to take it seriously.”

Wolff backed his driver in demanding the sport impose sufficient punishment if the rules have been breached. “All the stakeholders in this sport, all the teams that have complied to the regulations, the FIA, F1, need to make sure that these regulations have teeth,” he said.

The FIA should just lean into it and announce the findings during the Japanese Grand Prix.

I know people are going wild with speculation, but if Red Bull faces any consequences at all it's going to be the same kind of incredibly unsatisfying behind doors sh*t that happened to Ferrari when they cheated with their engine design a few years back. Verstappen and Red Bull are just too big a piece of the commercial picture right now for the FIA to actually do the kind of enforcement that would make the budget cap actually meaningful.

Yeah, it's hard to expect anything else at this point. It's like last race where they just gave Checo the penalty that would not alter the result of the race.

I stayed up too late for this nonsense.

I'm going to bed.

The FIA tripped over their own clown shoes again.

Never mind that they wrote a rule that ends up doing the opposite of what they intended, so that the new World Champion had no idea they'd won the title, they also put a crane onto a live track at the same circuit we lost Jules Bianchi.

Stellar day.

For races with start times like these I just go to bed and watch the VOD on F1TV the next day. If you have F1TV, I recommend the "Race in 30" version for this one - completely cuts out the red flag and all the other nonsense.

Yeah, but at this point, half the fun of watching the race live is keeping up with the Yelling On Twitter about it.

Join the Racing Dorks Slack channel, that makes it easier to follow along when watching on demand.

LOL, says quite a bit that Max just cruised to his second title and it's gone unmentioned here.

FIA president condemns death threats against race steward Silvia Bellot

The president of the FIA Mohammed ben Sulayem has condemned death threats made against a Formula One race steward and warned that the toxic abuse directed at FIA staff and volunteers threatens to “destroy” the sport.

As F1 reels under an onslaught of often poisonous online abuse between fans of different drivers, Ben Sulayem revealed that the FIA steward Silvia Bellot had recently received death threats. He also noted that other FIA staff had been “targeted” with harassment and hate posts, which he insisted was unacceptable.

“It is utterly deplorable that a volunteer such as Silvia or any of our marshals and officials, who volunteer their time to allow us to go racing, is the subject of such hatred,” he said.

Bellot is well-respected in the sport and made her debut as an F1 steward in 2011. She is also an ambassador of the FIA’s Women in Motorsport Commission. Bellot was one of the stewards at the US Grand Prix that was involved in Fernando Alonso’s controversial post-race penalty, later overturned, and was subsequently targeted with angry, threatening abuse online.

Online is terrible in general these days, but I've definitely noticed that F1 Twitter is just a trash fire at the moment.

(This also gets to a larger thing in sports, or at least certainly in soccer/football, where abuse of refs is just out of control.)

LOL, they're P1 and P20.

Haas is easily the most entertaining team in the field.

Well I already knew Verstappen was a dick but unless someone has a break down of his rationale I didn't know he's actually a raging asshole.

Brutal for Perez to have such a 'teammate'. I know that's grey area already in F1 but still.

Apple does not fall far from the tree. Max was never a nice guy. He's just been very lucky that recently, he's not had more than "Yep, I won another one" interactions with the media.

What an absolute sh*theel.

Rumors are that this is because he is still upset that Perez crashing at f*cking Monaco cost him pole position.

Get f*cking bent. Perez’s amazing defense at Abu Dhabi is the only reason Max even was close enough for f*cked up officiating to gift him his first championship. After that, he can’t even be a team player and help out Perez multiple races after securing his second?

Top tier asshole. Please, Mercedes, keep the momentum and come into next season with a winning car so this piece of sh*t doesn’t even get another sniff of a championship for a good long time.

Also, f*ck yeah Mercedes.

Finished that race. Yeah, always really disliked Verstappen...

Really like this take on what Ferrari have to do. I completely forgot Jean Todt was given seven years before the first championship as team boss.

2023 car launches are done, testing is about to start, and a new season of Drive to Survive will be out this weekend, so it's time for a new thread:
