Post a picture of your pet!

Oh! It's that time of night when Billie grabs the coaster from the table and runs around the apartment and doesn't let me get it. I didn't realize it was that late already...

A somewhat rare Scrumpy toungue-out photo. Probably going to be more common now the weather's heating up. IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/PC8QuF5.jpg)

And technically not our pet, but we looked after the guinea pigs from my daughters kindy for a week and a bit. This one's called Kristoff. An absolute unit that loves his food. Ferdinand, not so much, so no good photos of him. IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/9vLM4ic.jpg)

My baby having a blast by the bay. She just got a hair cut

Just in time for Halloween.

I was sitting on the bog this morning doing my thing and I heard a knock on the bathroom door. I replied “I’m in here” and the knock returned. This time it was two, more insistent knocks. I again replied “taken”. Moments later, four sharp knocks in rapid succession. I hastily wiped and went to the door ready for an argument only to realize it was Prata (my Kerry Blue Terrier) hitting it with her tail.

She looked up and barked “nevermore”

DNA time!

Billie's DNA results are in, and I found them both surprising and unsurprising at the same time. Technically the shelter was correct to call her a "pointer mix", it's just 95% of her is "mix" and the only 5% is "pointer".

She is:
35% Pit Bull Terrier
33% Supermutt
16% Australian Cattle Dog
10% German Shepherd Dog
5% German Shorthaired Pointer

I'm surprised at the amount of pit bull in her, but given that like 70% of dogs in shelters around here are pit bulls (I just made up that figure, but that's what it felt like when I was watching the shelter's website while looking for dogs) it shouldn't be that surprising that she part one too.

I just looked up a list of smartest dog breads and Australian Cattle Dog, German Shephard and Pointer all make the list. No wonder she's so smart and inquisitive.

Not exactly a pet, but here's a little thing that showed up last week in the parking lot of the building where I live:

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/wO5IDpS.jpg)

No idea where she came from and how she ended up here. She's been sleeping inside a pile of construction equipment next to a big blue container and a port-a-potty.

I've been feeding her twice a day for the past few days. I was slowly able to get closer and closer and, today, I finally managed to pet her a little. It did cost me half a bag of treats, but it was worth it!

If I do manage to build a bond, I'm not sure what I will do. I already have two senior cats, I'm not sure how they would react if I brought another one in. Also, my apartment is relatively small. Probably should have thought of that before I tried to befriend her.

I think I'll call her Daphne.

She's all gorgeous, though, Tscott!

Super cool!

And I knew "Supermutt" is a possibility with these DNA tests, but I've never actually seen it before.

Yeah Supermutt means there’s traces of various different breeds that are distant ancestors. In the description they give 5 different breeds found in her specific makeup of Supermutt:

Treeing Walker Coonhound
American Bulldog
Pug
Basset Hound
Chihuahua

I’m guessing those are the top 5 of many breeds in the mix but that’s not completely clear.

Prata woke me up to inform me that time changes are “not a thing” and that her breakfast was late.

Time change is tonight, right?

Yeah, 2am Sunday morning officially.

This is the LAST “fall back” change ever and the second-to-last one in the US!

As much as I wish it were true, I regret to inform you that while the bill passed in Senate, it has not yet passed in Congress, and is apparently unlikely to reach consensus before the end of this year.

Because it feels like there are a site too many dog pics here lately - not that I have anything against dogs! - I give you some pictures of my cats:

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/6H3jsKi.jpg)

This would be Casper who is the brother of my cat who passed last year. He's old, his thyroid has packed up and he's become increasingly vocal in his old age, but he pretty much sleeps permanent next to where I am these days - he has a cushion he sleeps on when I'm in my office - and is still very kittenish at times. Especially if you happen to have a red laser pointer on you.

This is Star demanding to be painted like one of your french girls. She's technically mini-sorb's cat, but nobody else feeds her. She's actually pretty shy and tends to hide under our bed if there is anyone in the house she doesn't know. We often have a fun time with our cat sitters convincing them she does actually exist as they never see her. Will tolerate a small amount of affection when she's in the mood.

And, tonight, after I fed Daphne, she followed me all the way to the entrance of the building. I might have to prep my office to serve as temporary shelter for her (to keep her isolated from my other cats) and get a product to kill fleas (in case she has any)...

I was worried that I would not be able to befriend her for a while. The fact that she became so trusting and friendly in a few days makes me think that I am not the first human she has come in contact with.

I will call the shelter this week to see if I can book an appointment and have her scanned, in case she is microchipped.

Huh. I can swear this was a done deal. I must've slipped into a parallel universe again. Seems to be happening a lot to me lately.

Anyhoo, now I owe a photo for the derail so here's Obi chilling with one of his "babies."

Good news: I found the owner of the cat through a Facebook lost pet group for Ottawa, and they will come pick her up later today.

Her actual name is Spot

Awesome! That's going to be one relieved cat owner.

We had an issue with our back door where a strong wind could blow it open. We woke up one morning to find the door open and 1 cat hiding, the other missing. We looked all day for him, didnt find him, it started pouring rain in the afternoon. It was pretty crushing.

We left the back door open that night with his food and bed outside. He snuck back in looking pretty miserable and dirty but grateful to be with his people. It was pretty negligent of us not to fix the door immediately, so Im glad we didn't pay a higher price for that.

Whatever you do, don't hit the Spot ;P

Yeah I think the Senate news got picked up and spread pretty widely on social (and mainstream?) media without anyone actually understanding what actually happened. I definitely misunderstood it when I first read the headline, for sure.

I wouldn't dare, despite the fact that she kept me up all night!

The owner picked her up about 30 minutes ago, so I can now open the door to my office and let my cats in.

That is so great, I am glad it turned out well for her!

Anyone have any recommendations for toys for dogs that destroy toys? I'm at my wits end. The poor manta ray below didn't last an hour before the squeaker and stuffing had been removed- and this was supposed to be made of bite resistant material. Billie just picks one spot and obsessively attacks it until it gives. Some of her most beloved toys that she's enjoyed for months are now trash because of this new habit- or maybe "new habit" isn't correct, she's always done this, she just recently perfected it.

Ice bones might not be a bad option. Get a plastic form, put a treat in it and fill with water and freeze. Its cheap, ice melts, and it can help with teething (if they are young enough for that).

Another Scrumpy dump from this morning's walk by the river.

Has Scrumpy... grown?

People tell us he has, but it's hard to notice day-to-day. Only when I look back at older pics do I actually notice it.

Every time I see him I want cider.
