Xbox Cloud Gaming is coming to Meta Quest

“When Xbox Cloud Gaming launches on the Meta Quest Store, you’ll be able to hook up an Xbox controller to your headset and play console games from the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library on a massive 2D screen, like having a private movie theater available at all times.

“No date yet, but we hope to share more on this as soon as possible,” it added.

Will this come to Steam, or Window's Mixed Reality too?

If you can run a web browser in those you should already be able to do this easily. Just load up “xbox.com/play” in the browser. Switch to full screen browser window and use a controller for best results. Better yet if you can run the Xbox app from VR. I’ve already been doing this from a Quest 2 by using Virtual Desktop to wirelessly connect to my PC and run xCloud in app. Browser would work as well.

Played through the first room in Scorn and I think the H.R. Giger aesthetic might be working against the puzzle/exploration nature of the game. It looks cool and all but it also makes everything sort of blend together and obfuscates what you’re actually supposed to do at times. The first area opens with a sliding block puzzle with these corpse-egg things, trying to manuever one to a specific location- except the egg you need isn’t the one that immediately stands out and it took like half an hour of trial and error before I managed to figure out which one the game wanted me pick.

Persona 5 Royal coming to Game Pass next week, and I was interested to read this, on the Xbox site:

Persona 5 Royal will also support Xbox Cloud Gaming with five unique touch control layouts tailored to your in-game activities.

I've not bothered much with touch controls, because it's just a controller overlay on screen most of the time. A more tailored experience sounds intriguing.

I started Tinykin this weekend and I was surprised by how entertaining it is. The music and the cute graphics and cutscenes really make me want to keep playing.

Please do! Tinykin is immensely satisfying, all the way through the end.

I thought it was cool that I can cross-play Back 4 Blood on GamePass PC with my son on PS5.

Frog Detective is all three games, including the new one. These games won't win any awards, but they are silly fun, and frequently hilarious.

Of the games leaving, I highly recommend The Forgotten City, which was my GOTY in 2021.

Leaving:
Alan Wake: American Nightmare (Console and PC)
Backbone (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Bassmaster Fishing 2022 (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Nongunz: Doppelganger Edition (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Project Wingman (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Second Extinction (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Sniper Elite 4 (Console and Cloud)
The Forgotten City (Cloud, Console, and PC)

SOMA is great. Everyone should play it. You can turn the threat down to zero if just want to experience the story.

And if you play? Sit through the credits. The game isn't over quite yet.

How scary is it to play in story mode? And it is still worth it?

Gunfire Reborn is a pretty neat FPS roguelike. Fun for coop play in not too long sessions.

And I second recommending the Frog Detective games, I really enjoyed the first two.

I also see in the desktop app that The Legend of Tianding is coming to GamePass on 10/31 and I really liked that game. It's an action platformer based on a Taiwanese folk tale and made by Taiwanese devs. I loved how the story is narrated from the point of view of a kid reading comic books and listening to an episodic radio show about the real world Tianding. It has some difficulty spikes in the boss fights (for my taste) but it was still an awesome game for me.

Apparently early access games don’t give you achievements until the game releases to 1.0. Vampire Survivors just gave me ~70 achievements.

And each and every one of them pinged my Apple Watch.

Guess who just learned how to filter watch notifications by app.

It didn't register when you posted it but I have been interested in Signalis since they previewed it. I was about to purchase it on Steam then just got an email about it being on gamepass. Apparently it is real good if you like Resident Evil Style games.

This is a pretty sweet back to back. Signalis is great so far and I also have had Ghost Song (Metroidvania) on my wish list.

Pentiment is the big one for me, and I might see what all the fuss is about with Vampire Survivors.

Every year, I'm tempted to get back into Football Manager... and every year, I boot it up, look at a screen full of stats, think, "Ain't no one got time for that," and close it down again.

Pentiment reviews look quite good. I’m looking forward to checking that one out over the holidays.

Edit: Sommerville reviews also just released, but they are sadly not as promising. It sounds like the game needed extra time for polishing and ironing out technical issues, so it'd probably be wise to wait for a few weeks.

I'm very excited about Soccer Story. The weird thing is that I was planning on playing it on the Switch but why buy a game I can get on GamePass?

Kind of annoyed that Insurgency Sandstorm won't be on PC. It's a great coop game.

Lapin looks interesting.

I have three words for everyone; ROCK AND STONE!

Season 3 for Deep Rock Galactic dropped on Xbox today; time for Plaguefall. The new update adds in meteors that will drop into your game that you have to cleanse, as well as infected bugs. New grenades, loads of cosmetics, and, of course, it's free. There's a battle pass, and it's also free, and it's just resources plus cool new hats, beards, and victory poses, and if you don't complete the entire battle pass, well, it all just gets added into the general pool of cosmetics you can get randomly later.

DRG is without question one of the best co-op games I've ever played; it's up there with Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect 3, Borderlands, and Destiny. It's a class-based shooter where you're Dwarves mining rocks and shooting bugs, and, as simple as that sounds, the game features phenomenally good procedurally generated levels with different objectives, and I've been playing it since it first dropped in early access probably four years ago. Now's a great time to get in and pick this up; it's just plain fun. It's the only class-based game where I enjoy all the classes equally; Scout, Engineer, Driller, and Gunner all have their advantages, and the different weapons and overclocks/mods give a huge array of play options and keep things fresh.

I went ahead and bought DSG just to support the devs. Genuinely one of my favorite games.

Battlefield 2042 was just added. Never tried it. Any good?

Gungrave feels like it should be fun but has not landed with me yet. I will have to keep trying.

Suppose you download Total War Warhammer 3 on game pass. Is that the base retail game with nothing from this vast mess of sequels and DLCs they've spawned? (Im 25% into a 100GB download, woof. If that's all for like 6 factions I'll be annoyed.)

I'm pretty sure that's the case. The other factions are there, you just can't play as them. That said Its a fantastic set of games and if you like it you could start buying in during the Steam sale.

Every year about this time I start eyeballing them. I own the first one on Steam with a few DLCs and my playtime of 5 hours tells a lot of the story. Interest without dedication (or getting sucked in) I played a boatload of Total War Rome 2 way back when though.

The download is done. Lets just see how it goes.

Edit: Wow an Immortal Empires Race Select screen in this case has 0 playable races for me as far as I can tell. Every single one has a purple banner and a guide on what else to buy. So yeah, wow. Not even one to tempt with

I played the first level and yeah. It just feels like it works but it's so uninteresting. Not sure if I'll give it another try.

Immortal Empires is only available if you own all three games (on the same platform)

I've since found that text in a lot of places, just not in game, lol
