I thought I would slack off and play more games when I'm supposed to be working but it's actually turned out to be the opposite. I think it's why I've played so few games during the pandemic. I need to work on my work/life balance.

The closer work and play are to being in the same space the harder it is to separate them, I’ve found.

One of the few reasons why I like working for the government - it's a felony for me to work from home, so there is no way I will ever have this issue.

(Now, if only I could convince my wife to give herself more personal time since she works from home.)

This has kinda started to become a hobby

I got a set of Nanoleafs for my birthday and they are absolutely amazing. So since they are arranged on the wall I wanted to adjust and clean up my desk along with more wire management. The new LED lights and Nanoleafs gave me the ability to do warm white for when I don't want so much neon at the end of the day and want to relax.

Very nice setup.

Your space keeps getting more and more awesome! Been wanting to play some Turtles in Time all week as well.

Your GameBoy screen border is in better shape than mine.

For some reason my GB looks way filthier in this picture than it does IRL.

Those Nanoleaf lights look cool, but they don't support 5G... Sigh.

Would you really want them accessible from anywhere on the planet?

I'd be happier with them on WiFi and behind a firewall.

I mean 5G wifi, of course.

That rug really ties the room together

I've had to make a separate guest network that is 2.4ghz only so that I could connect all of my smart home devices. It was the best solution I could come up with.

Thanks! Seeing the Shredders revenge trailer made me want to play it again. My 9yr old nephew has been loving it but my 6yr old son, not so much yet.

It's funny how many call-outs I get about the gameboy sticker. I think every 90s kid has it lol.

I tried some Turtles with my almost 5yo on Friday. While he initially got into it, taking out about 1 foot soldier for every 5 I got, after about 20 minutes his interest waned and he mostly stood around losing lives and using up continues.

One of your backgrounds is giving me major The Black Queen vibes:

Oh, duh, 5 gigahertz, not fifth generation. *whacks head*.

Nur.

If you're in the US, expect them to kick & scream before they even think about supplying it or paying for it. Some companies will do so if you have a medical diagnosis that requires specific equipment. Some may offer it because you have a union that demands it. Very rarely will a company just offer it to you.

After the pandemic my company raised our pay by about $30 a month, theoretically for the cost of internet, office supplies, coffee, etc. But nothing related to actual hardware or software. They provide a laptop and power cable and that's it.

Oh, and if you got back to the office they give you free headphones. But I'm not taking that bait

I think I’ve been lucky in that the two companies I’ve worked for remotely (starting from before the pandemic) the general approach to expenses was ‘get what you need to get your work done’ and that approach included whatever is needed for working remotely. My impression is that this is not the norm.

I’m also lucky because although my company provides all the basics (laptop, monitor, dock, camera), I also get a $200 a year stipend from Staples to spend on other things. This year I bought a foot rest, desk lamp, lumbar pillow, and a (better) keyboard. I have no idea what I’m going to spend it on next year.

We got the basics to WFH (I am in a hybrid 2 day office/3 day home schedule). 2 monitors, keyboard, dock for our laptops. We also got the choice of an office chair or sit-stand desk. I took the desk and absolutely love it.

My engineering startup doesn't have a physical office - they offered a modest reimbursement for home office when I joined. It almost covered the sit/stand desk that i got.

Think they offered to give me a monitor too but i already had one

I finally got one step further on my office space. I hung the stereo speakers from the studs after getting a Schiit Audio product that is exactly what I needed for office speakers. Yes, I had to get a black one because it's all they offered. Oh well. It actually doesn't look all that bad mixed and matched like that.

Next step is cable management and getting power strips up off the floor and mounted to studs. This was a huge step for me, though. Took way too long. The speakers sound lovely, and the positioning is perfect for stereo sound.

I had to bring this post back up to show our office is finally put together. It still needs wall decor and I may mount the TV. Since my wife and I both work from home now we have two L-shaped setups for easy access to work and play from one spot. My wife has the fancier desk but refuses to give up her 70's chair.

Looks great but I think you need one more monitor!
