NFL 2022: The Week 8 thread

Calvin Ridley is now next year a Jaguar.

Compensation not yet revealed.

Jeff Wilson is now a Dolphin.

For a 5th round pick.

I'm betting it's a *this joke redacted*.

Conditional compensation for the Ridley trade:

Two draft picks.

A 2023 6th that becomes a 5th if Ridley is reinstated by a certain date.

A 2024 4th if he makes the roster in 2024, which elevates to a 3rd if he reaches certain play time thresholds, and up to a 2nd if a long-term deal is reached with the team.

EDIT:

Jacob Martin is now a Bronco.

A 2024 4th to the Jets for Martin and a 2024 5th.

Brandin Cooks is now a Brown.

Looks like this report was premature

Seems the Cooks to Browns report has been debunked. Rodgers still has hope.

But the clock is quickly running out.

William Jackson III is now a Steeler.

A conditional 6th to Washington for Jackson and a conditional 7th.

Nyheim Hines is now a Bill.

Compensation not yet announced.

That's it, time's up. Unless deals were closed that weren't leaked/announced yet, we're done.

After all that negotiation and even a false report, Brandin Cooks apparently stays put.

EDIT: Hines went to the Bills in exchange for Zach Moss and a conditional 6th, so we got a bonus player trade.

Well that was a lot more commenting than I expected to do today. Crazy trade deadline. Is this still the NFL?

great move for Ridley. The Jagoffs aren't winning sh*t this year anyway.

I definitely like the Ridley move, especially when the team's last attempt at solving WR was throwing #1 and #2 money to #3 and #4 WRs, and being shocked when they play like #3 and #4 WRs.

Ridley is a legitimate WR2 at minimum, with WR1 potential. Would be great if the team drafted another outside WR next spring to pair with Ridley, let Kirk stay in the slot where he belongs, and end the Zay Jones error.

Speaking of WRs, ESPN reports that it was the Cowboys who nearly brought Brandin Cooks home. Negotiations between the Cowboys and Texans reportedly went all the way down to the deadline.

I'm not an advanced analytics guy.. wtf is Expected Yards Per Carry and why would Chase Edmonds have nearly a half yard more than his teammate who plays behind the same OL and the same QB (unless Chase Edmonds only played when Tua was out?).

Also the fact that it appears that way more than half the RBs sampled have more than their expected yards per carry leads me to think that they need to recalculate expected yards per carry.

Look at the tiny words below that heading.

PFT is reporting the Packers also offered a 2nd for Claypool, but the Steelers believed the Bears will have a worse record at the end of the year so went with the Chicago trade instead.

And Green Bay couldn't be bothered to sweeten the deal? Add in a 5th maybe? Pittsburgh is missing their 5th and 6th next year.

I'm not so sure Green Bay's 2nd will be THAT much worse than Chicago's...

Not sure why you guys think Green Bay should of been buying at the deadline.

One could equally make the argument they should of actually been selling.

If it's sell and rebuild time, then it's play Jordan Love time.

But the financial commitment they've made to Aaron Rodgers pretty much prevents it from being rebuild and play Jordan Love time. They've made their bed for the next few years, now they need to lie in it. Giving Rodgers a big last "all-in" deal and then half-assing the "all-in" part doesn't work.

They're 3-5. The Niners were 3-5 last year and were one good 4th quarter away from the Super Bowl.

If they were honestly all-out for the rebuild, they should have traded Rodgers.

They had their opportunity this spring. Rodgers should be the QB in Denver right now instead of Russ. They doubled down instead, and now it will be way more costly to get out from under Rodgers. I just don't see it happening until 2024 at the earliest.

Yeah. Though I still think it is entirely possible we will see Rodgers in a Texans uniform.

The logical destination would be a Qzone.

Washington Commanders announce hiring of firm “to consider potential transactions.”

It’s once again all-caps-never o’clock in D.C.

Minutes after Forbes published an article reporting that the Commanders have hired BofA Securities to sell the team, the team issued a statement.

“Dan and Tanya Snyder and the Washington Commanders announced today that they have hired BofA Securities to consider potential transactions,” the statement explains. “The Snyders remain committed to the team, all of its employees and its countless fans to putting the best product on the field and continuing the work to set the gold standard for workplaces in the NFL.”

One league source proposed a translation: “If we get our price, we’re sellers.”

Forbes reported that “Snyder already has at least four calls from groups interested in buying the team,” and that “Snyder and his bankers are exploring all options and a transaction could be for the entire NFL team or a minority stake.”

I guess that report's going to be damning enough to start this process.

Two teams in the division were selling and the other may as well change their logo to a turd on a mattress for how often they sh*t the bed.

Also a fair point. Minnesota is a paper tiger. They're the 28th ranked defense. They've been feasting on turnover luck (which, by the way, so have Seattle and the Giants). When the fumbles start bouncing another direction and evening things out, regression is coming.

All the players will be gig workers and will need fans to tip them.
