NFL 2022: The Week 8 thread

Here's a mind-blowing stat for your Friday morning:

If the Panthers beat the Falcons on Sunday, the new leader of the NFC South will be ...

... your 3-5 Carolina Panthers.

If the Panthers win, they'll be 3-0 in the division with a win over each team.

PS: I am advance-gloating because my plan for NFC South domination hinges on PJ Freakin' Walker. It's not a sound plan, I admit.

Update: Brady's probably sad about more than football. TMZ just dropped a report saying that Brady and Gisele Bundchen will file divorce docs today. I know it's fun to clown on Brady because of all his TB12 antics, but having his marriage fall apart is some rough stuff.

This season is coming in heavy for futile terrible football mediocrity.

Obvious other contenders are 2010, 2014, 2020.

Where the Panthers (them again), Seahawks and Commanders all won their divisions with losing records.

This is the first time with 17 games tho so the NFC South might even give us a 7-10 division winner.

We can hope. I am here for MAXIMUM CHAOS. And the associated hand-wringing.

Man, if a 7-10 won the Superb Owl, that would be so f*cking delicious. I would even accept a Washington POSs win for that.

If it helps remember that he is a terrible person who is now on close texting terms with alt right heroes like Ron DeSantis. It’s painfully obvious that Brady’s after football career is going to be filled with hateful people and more than likely will involve politics. Feel sorry for his kids…they had no say in this.

He's a completely empty shell of a man. There's nothing to him and has very little thought other than winning. He'll 100% get into politics.

OH FOR F**K'S SAKE

The Orlovsky self-safety was a lot funnier before Garoppolo did the same thing.

Speaking of politics and football, I saw a campaign sign for someone running in a local election here in Santa Maria named Michael Clayton.

All I could think was, "well the first year will be great, but after that..."

I don't expect anyone besides MMD to get amusement out of that. If you're not a Bucs fan and you remember the particulars of the career of Michael Clayton, you probably need to get a life.

He can have my spot.

Goddammit. Deebo out Sunday.

He probably knows what Twitch is. The G in Jimmy G stands for "Gifted subs."

A cream.

To treat concussions.

Obvious joke is obvious:

The Rams are one of the teams sniffing around a possible Brandin Cooks trade, because maybe they'll like him better at 30 years old than they did when he was 26, when they sent him packing to the Texans.

My son (9) is constantly doing the would you rather game. Would you rather root for the Cowboys or Pats? Etc.

I've had to tell him I won't cheer for the Browns because, "Their owner doesn't follow the rules and he doesn't treat people right."

To which my son asks, "So. What if the Commandos play the Browns?"

"What if the Browns had to play the Astros in some world?"

Heard him tell a friend, "We don't root for the Browns because their owner is bad."

And then I give him the Denzel face from inside the Monte Carlo in Training Day.

This game is super exciting and features top notch play.

If you don't love this, you don't love Jaguars football.

I am speechless.

Is that lady applauding them?

I'll concede that the Scott Hanson/Witching Hour duo Halloween costume's pretty clever.

Zach Wilson and Mac Jones are trying to see who can lose the game harder. Luckily, Wilson is winning so far, but there's plenty of time left.

Edit: Ok, Zach Wilson is definitely seeing ghosts again.

The NFL app just gave me a popup "Upset Alert" because the Patriots are leading the Jets.

I don't understand the world where that is an upset, but I could learn to live there.

Dallas I understand being in the Big 12.

Didn't know Chicago had joined the conference though.

This battle for the NFC South is oddly entertaining.

That drop on 4th-and-17 by DJ Moore, ouch.

That's what happens when you throw to your $20m/yr wide receiver instead of throwing it to Viska.

Arizona should automatically lose any game in which Kliff wears those sunglasses.

Panthers holy sh*t.

OK DJ Moore, I see your Hail Mary TD redemption arc.

But Viska's out route is what opened it up for you. You're welcome.

EDIT: DJ Moore's celebration penalty from removing his helmet moves the extra point back, and the kick is missed, still tie game.

Viska's helmet would have stayed on, DJ.

Oh it really happened. Moore removes helmet in celebration. 48 yard XP that would have won the game is missed.
