Cyberpunk Catch-All

Even on very hard once you spec into any branch, you can become super deadly. So you can afford to be pretty flexible.

A jack of all trades, master of none build means you won't unlock the highest level skills or get the absolutely best cyberware, but it's still fun.

You don't have to go this involved, but I made a spreadsheet with a list of the cyberware I wanted to try:

https://cyberpunk2077.wiki.fextralife.com/Cyberware

And their various stat requirements.

Then I have columns with different combinations of attribute points (you can have 71 points total, including your starting points).

Even a 12/12/18/16/13 body/reflex/tech/int/cool build will let you try out Berserks, Sandevistans, unlock Legendary crafting, and turn you into a quickhack death machine (you can acquire Legendary quickhacks from access points, and there's not really any point in crafting quickhacks more than once, so 20 int is hard to justify unless you really want a specific skill or cyberware).

My current run I'm trying to decide between the above build and 16/16/18/14/7. Normally I wouldn't spec that high into body, but one of the achievements requires the second heart cyberware, which has a body requirement of 16. And I do want to mess around with knife throwing now that you don't permanently lose your knives, and the Cool trees help with poison and critical damage.

That way I can try *almost* all the potentially new stuff from 1.6, ha.

Finally saved up for the double jump today. Holy hell what a game changer.

I got the charge jump and love it so much.

It really is - opens up huge verticality.

I'll likely never remember to charge things up but a double tap? Yeah I'll remember that.

"V you need to find a way in"

*immediately jumps over the tall fence*

Ok, guess I need to keep an eye out for that then, sounds fun - though I haven't met a door I haven't been able to open yet. I'm 20 hours in and now getting real nervous about what to spend the attribute points on knowing I can't do anything about it once it's done. Sort of frustrating, but I like being committed like this in a way.

Question: is there a way to stop whatever it is that's "revealing my location" from happening when I'm tossing quickhacks from the shadows?

you reveal your location when you use non stealth quickhacks. if you want to stay quiet you have to limit yourself to stealth quickhacks.
as to what stats, pick 1 stat that has a playstyle you like and go for that. once your done there, pick your second fav and hybridize the two.

You can also kill the Netrunner (when you're getting hacked/located like that, it means the enemies have a Netrunner). They tend to dress a bit differently (netrunning suit), and there's a perk that'll reveal the enemy trying to reveal your location, too. But really if you're killing people quickly you'll probably murder them and stop the location on accident.

To expand on what Tycho said a bit (okay, maybe a lot) if you don't mind planning out your build, spreading out your attribute points means you won't get to a specific skill as fast, but it'll make leveling up your skill trees a lot less grindy.

The skill trees max out at the level of the attribute. If you only put 3 points into Body, then Athletics, Brawling, and... annihilation? Will all max out at level 3 and you won't be earning experience for those branches.

That's important because a LOT of extra skill points are gated behind the skill trees (when you're looking at an perk tree, there's a numbered list running 1-20 along the bottom. If you hover over the different numbers you'll see what you unlock at that specific level.)

If you only dump your points into Int, for example, you'll be able to unlock Hacking perks earlier, but you might not have the perk points needed to get all the perks you want.

By the time you reach level 50, you'll have 71 attribute points across all 5 stats (including the ones you start with)

If you completely neglect two attributes (so there's only 11 points between both), you can max the other three out at 20.

But in reality, except to get the achievement for unlocking an entire skill branch, there's no real point to maxing any attribute out to 20. The most powerful Hacking skills unlock at 16, and the only reason to go higher than that really is to craft legendary quickhacks. But that's kinda pointless because you can also earn them (eventually) at random from hacking access points.

Similarly, there's no real reason to go higher than 18 in Tech, because that's when you unlock Legendary crafting. The level 20 Tech skill is... I think selling items for more stuff? But at that point in the crafting tree you can make heaps of money just crafting and selling tech weapons, so an extra 10-20% bump kind of doesn't matter.

But you should still a look at the different perk trees and see if there's any high level perks that really, really, call out to you.

The "best" Sandevistan (time slo-mo) has a Reflex requirement of 15 (don't punch Fingers). It lasts a few seconds less than the technically higher level Sandevistan, but it has a cooldown of 15 seconds (every other Sandevistan is 30 seconds). You can lower than cooldown with mods/cyberware, so the duration kind of doesn't matter.

Similarly a body of 15-16 will let you get the second best of most body cyberware. You definitely don't need to max it even to beat the final fight in the Beat on the Brat quests. It'll be harder with low body but 10-12 with a Sandevistan and the right cyberware/perks (even if it means resetting your tree just for that fight) and you can take him down before the slo-mo even wears off.

Cool has some fun skill for critical hits/knives/survivability if you like going loud, but even with Cool at 7 (to get the Assassin +15% against human enemies, by far the most common type in the game) I'm dropping enemies with headshot knife kills.

tl;dr especially early on you can happily spread your points across different attributes until you figure out what you want. If you put 5-7 into everything you should get a better idea of what skills or play style you enjoy. And it's really hard to screw up your build unless you're simply not enjoying yourself with your current skills.

I find starting a new build pretty fun, personally. So I have a save after the intro mission but before The Pickup (if you really wanted to be hardcore you could avoid distributing any attribute points and save after the Heist to skill all the unskippable story/cut scenes). Once you know how the game works, leveling up and progressing isn't too bad.

I'd not played much with the map filters until today, when I was looking for a vendor, and they have a filter that shows all the NCPD callouts! I know what I'm doing for the next long while. HELPING THE CITY.

I did this. Got to street cred 50 fast.

I just hit 50 my own self!

I did those very late in the game, which was hilarious because there'd be some dudes doing a crime and then a blur of blades and gunfire would run through the area and they'd all be dead.

How do we change the title of this thread?

Level Hacking to 20 and get the perk for it.

Just started a second run through, put a few mods on but no idea if they are actually working but it is looking great.

The two sidequests with River Ward (I Fought the Law and The Hunt) have been fantastic. The Hunt, in particular, is a highlight and reminds me of the the best Witcher 2 & 3 sidequests.

I just finished up the River Ward line and wow, that was awesome.

Saw some talk about how nice it looks. Well, YouTuber Tomographic received an RTX 4090 from Nvidia and proceeded to play the game at native 4K with DLSS 2 and 3 enabled and RTX on and is getting like 110 FPS in the bit of the video I watched. For some reason thought I'd share, even though it's kinda cruel because who's getting a 4090 any time soon?

Umm aren't these things are contradictory? Native 4K implies DLSS would be off doesn't it?

But anyway yea the 4090 is a beast. They were talking about it on the podcast Brad & Will Made a Tech Pod because Will got to go to a review event and sounds like also got to take one home with him and he says that every single system he has tested it in has been CPU limited, even brand new Ryzen 7000 series and Intel i9s. They also say that the 4080 is like a 2x increase over the 2080 and that is the card that most people should go for. Also the power requirements of the 4090 are insane (TDP of 450 watts!!!!!).

Wow that is very pretty.

Snark
*Can it make missions where I care as much as I did during the Jenny of the woods quest in Witcher 3? And does it reduce the staggering amount of worthless junk I pick up off each body?

He says "4K max settings with DLSS" in the video, so you're right, not native. Still looks very good though. And this isn't even the "Cyberpunk RTX Overdrive" version they're working on.

Although at one point he toggles off DLSS and it's still getting 40fps with all settings cranked. Which is impressive too.

I'm still enjoying playing on my Steam Deck, but I booted up my desktop to test a cross-save and it was almost painful how much better it looks on a 3060 TI, hahaha. You get used to the graphics but going immediately back and forth from the Deck to my desktop the potato-ness is truly apparent. Next to these 4090 videos it's even worse!

Btw the latest Nvidia drivers kinda broke the map. This fixes it.

I don't know from native 4K and I just typed "DLSS" because Tomographic'd said those letters in the video. He also says, a few times, "native 4K" so I don't know I'm drinking instant coffee so how much can really be expected of me is the question to ask yourselves.

Spoiler:

I love that there's no combat during the investigation in The Hunt.

Agreed.

there's a 37% power reduction between the 3090 and the 4090... Which is making me considering buying one now when i had intended to skip the 40x series.

A bit late to the recent conversations...

I've always done a split between 3 skill trees when building my CP characters. Because the non-violent paths like stealth are not designed so great, I figured conflict is unavoidable for most cases and like to put a decent base of points into Athletics until I grab enough perks to increase my survivability. The bulk of my points right now go into Reflexes > Assault with a smattering of points going into Tech so I can reap more benefits from crafting and open the odd door that I can't pry open with my bare hands. So it's perhaps a 70/20/10 split but right now I'm close to 20 Reflexes so the next few level ups will go towards maxing that out.

Going whole hog into one skill tree sounds like it would be very challenging.

Eventually I will roll a Corpo to check out my third and final life path. I don't want to do another melee character but that mono-wire is looking pretty sexy...

I stumbled on the 4090 video from Tomographic a few nights ago and watched it on the 4K TV. The details really pop!

Man, I just got my PC with a 2080 Ti before the pandemic started. Now i'm eyeing a new one with a 4090. C'est la vie.

In other lore is Johnny Silverhand completely unlikable in every way? Because in this game he sucks so so so much.
