Video Game Deals Catch-All

It was talked about on the Conference Call as well.

In on page 666!

I watched 20 seconds of a video on it. It looked like XMen Anime XCom. If I didn't have hundreds of other games, I'd probably grab it.

Horror game recommendation with this page 666 and a spookily well time Halloween around the corner?

I don't play Horror for fun, but...
Ooblets has a whole Halloween biome and themed follow-babies.

A great deal even at full price!

Epic free stuff

Drone Racing League
Runbow

Also a weekend WB sale on Steam. Batman, Lego, Mordor, etc.

Just got all 3 Thief titles (there are no other Thief titles that exist, what are you talking about?) for less than a buck each over at GOG, time to hide from some zombies again

Thief 4 is not a bad game. I don't care what the rest of the world thinks!

The problem to me is not whether thief is a good or bad game. It just that the story of thief was over. A very good end to a trilogy. And then they just undid it to make more. Like if lotr rings had a sequel where frodo goes on another adventure.

I would have be okay with a new game in the universe with a new cast, but that's less marketable. So we get this. Sorry if I'm seemingly venting, but I've grown to hate the fact that no successful series will ever end ever again...

Sorry Maverickz, I haven't really played it, it was just a cheap joke out of my recolection of how well it was received back in 2014, me bad! : D
But I do remember being uninterested in Thief 4 after finding out it didn't involve Garret. Hey maybe I'll play it yet given your endorsement of it, I got the first 3 as I saw them dirt cheap and remembered I didn't really got to finish the 3rd one and actually never played the 2nd, thou I'm aware of it's plot major points.

It has its problems, but I liked it. Maybe because it was more thief. Also, it definitely involves Garret, you play as Garret.

The main issue I had with thief 4 was bad sound mixing so every noise sounded like it was right behind me. After playing thief 2 this really broke the game for me and I never went back in.

hmm, now where the hell did I get the idea that he wasn't in it from then? I'll keep an eye out (tee-hee) for it from now on then, thanks!

Oh God. I preordered Thief 4 because I loved the first 3 so much. Please don't remind me of the mistakes of my past!

Never pre-order anything. Ever. Ever ever.

This used to be my mantra.

But now I'll pre-order the very occasional niche release. Falcom, SMT (and sometimes, Atlus) games historically get very low PAL print runs and the stock gets pretty tricky to find in Australia. I missed out on 13 Sentinels and had to pay a premium.

I've become a lot more comfortable pre-ordering with EB Game's (Gamestop elsewhere) 7-14 day no questions asked return policy. I can also cancel at any time (i.e after review embargos) and get a full refund. If Trails From Zero turns out to be a buggy mess when I get my hands on it, I just get the money back.

It's also nice to just dump some change on an upcoming title any time I'm browsing the store. I know I can put aside money myself, but, eh, it's just handy.

Not defending the horrid pre-purchase hype cycle most AAA games try to leverage. Rather, just adding another point of view. 9 times out of 10, preordering is a silly idea, especially when game prices drop so rapidly. Hell, I paid 10 bucks for God of War 2018, and that's one of the best games I've ever played. With games costing over $100 new here, patience helps!

Anyway, my point is that it's at least a little bit more consumer-friendly with that return window. Assuming that's not strictly something EB/Gamestop does here.

(I really hope that didn't come across as a "WELL ATCHSUALLYY"", and I know you were specifically talking about the general concept!)

Have passed up the last couple of sales but think maybe I have time now.

FYI about 14 hours left. I've put in almost 20 hours since last Monday and it's fantastic. Game thread here.

It may also win strategy game for the quarter. So get it now and jump in with a group

I'm curious about it. Looks like it's very character-based so I'm assuming no permadeath?

What's the VN-to-Gameplay ratio? I may give it a go if it's not too wordy.

No permadeath, and the penalty for someone getting knocked out is little more than a tap on the wrist; they take morale hits, but they would need to be knocked out several times to get a morale hit big enough to lower their stats, but buying food for pennies refills the morale meter. So short version, not a concern.

As for gameplay, it's overwhelmingly in the direction of gameplay, especially once you get past the first couple of hours when they introduce some characters. The story bits generally aren't that long. Honestly, by midgame you'll probably spend longer tweaking character builds every few missions than you will reading dialogue for those missions.

Okay, sold

FREE GAMES for those with Amazon/Twitch Prime:

  • Fallout 76
  • Loom
  • Hero's Hour
  • Glass Masquerade
  • Horace
  • Total War: Warhammer II
  • Middle-earth: Shadow of War (available on October 5th)

Total War Warhammer 2 is an absolute treat of a game. Huge that it's free! So far I've preferred it over the third game in the series, and have sunk over 100 hours into it. Big recommend.

Loom is great. I replayed it last year. It's from a simpler time. It's a nice, short artistic point and click with no stress.

Oh, Heroes Hour was mentioned on the podcast a month or so ago. It's that cool auto battler thing? Seems neato!

I also need to actually check out Legends of Runeterra now that I've accumulated so many Amazon Gaming goodies there. Also a nice reminder to fire up Gwent a bit more, it's nice getting those bonus boosters.

Some goodies expire after 30 days or something if you don't redeem them in game.

I had Warframe goodies that I missed because I didn't log in for 6 months

It's Melbourne International Games Week and with it comes big discounts from Aussie developers on Steam.

Untitled Goose Game is the likely tent pole at 50% off.

Need for Speed Heat is $3.50 on steam in order to promote the next NFS game which I know nothing about. NFS Heat is a deeply stupid game that I once said this about:

Anyone have fond memories of Need for Speed Underground 1 & 2? Well this isn't quite the same, but it's the closest that we're ever going to get, most likely. EA shut down the studio that was making these street racer NFS games shortly after the last patch for NFS Heat. This is it. It's the street racing genre's last hurrah.

So if anyone's still reading this, if you like a casual flashy racing game, if you genuinely enjoyed the first Fast & Furious movie, if you secretly think LED lights under a car are kind of cool, I would recommend this game

There are two $5 dlcs, otherwise it's a complete game with no micro transactions.

Ripper deal on humble right now. Get all your classic DND RPG goodness for pennies.

I've got fond memories of Icewind Dale. I was a bit young at the time to understand the DnD systems in Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Knights, but I got my hands on an Icewind Dale disc at a local thriftshop a few years later and ended up sinking quite a bit of time into it. It's going to be nice to jump back in and see how much I've forgotten
