Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Restarted Tokyo Diner because I needed something relaxing tonight. Will probably rewatch the whole thing all over again.

Wrapped up Edgerunner earlier in the week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Getting to the end of Cobra Kai S5 - this show is as dumb and awesome as ever.

Friends Per Second has an interview with the guy largely responsible for the Edgerunner show. It’s very interesting. It starts roughly at the 50 minute mark but the whole podcast is worth listening to for their takes on gaming news.

Loved the first one so I am glad Enola Holmes is getting a sequel.

Also starter Cyberpunk and it's uh visceral. I was watching on the treadmill last night on my phone and was happy it wasn't playing on my TV at home

Also thanks for the comments re the game - it reignited my curiosity but sounds like it's still questionable as a product.

The Full Metal Alchemist live-action movies are terrible. Just not any good.

And, at least the one I was able to finish, ended at a terrible spot.

Watched Dahmer in the background while I was working. Thankfully it wasn't too gory but with lots of allusions to what he did (Yes, there are some gruesome scenes, but it's kind of inevitable) using sound work and reaction shots. The actors were pretty dang great with a special nod to Niecy Nash and Richard Jenkins who did a fantastic job.

Was it good? I think they did a good job of focusing mostly on the victims around Dahmer and the failure of the police force. I am glad it wasn't a "why did he do it" kind of story but rather focused, and did a good job of, on showing the emotional devastation around what Dahmer did.

All in all, I wouldn't say it was incredible, but much better than I expected.

Watched Munsters. It's probably only for those with a true and unironic appreciation for visionary bad movies. It's not half-assed. It's fully committed to what it is trying to do. It just isn't very good at it.

There were a few moments here and there where you could kind of see what Rob Zombie was going for and those moments kind of worked - mostly the dad joke sequences and some of the Herman-Lily courtship.

I did like that there was no CGI.

The guy who played Herman Munster was better than I thought he was going to be.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo was a surprising find. Its a South Korean legal drama. I watched the first episode on a whim and then 2 more. Its charming and gives at least a peek at what it must be like to be autistic (the main character is an autistic legal genius and the 3rd character has a character with more severe disorder) and seems to treat the topic with care.

Box art quote of the year!

Haven't seen it but I don't think I'm going to

I greatly enjoyed it. While I didn't much care for the "redemption" arc of one character, the other side characters are just as enjoyable as the mains. Be warned that while they handle the autism of the main character with care, they are also pretty accurate to how the rest of the world would react to an autistic lawyer and that can be very frustrating.

They’ve mucked up their thumbnail but it’s a real ‘behind the scenes’ trailer.

Watched Lou. They had something special somewhere in their footage but they edited together something pretty bland.

Anyone paying attention to Netflix's mobile-gaming service, which is available to anyone with a subscription? You can access the games through the Netflix app, and they have a few good ones on there - including Oxenfree, Moonlighter and Before Your Eyes. Recently added is Desta: The Memories Between by the Monument Valley and Alba developer, ustwo games.

EDIT: They have Into the Breach, too.

Spiritfarer is also available. I found it to be a fantastic game that'll definitely be in the top of my GOTY list.

Couldn't believe I missed that, but I just checked the app, and "Device not supported" when it comes to Spiritfarer.

Definitely going to have to upgrade to a better phone if I get into mobile gaming...

This might end terribly, but you could search the store for "Spiritfarer Netflix Edition" and install it that way. Once you've installed, it'll ask for your Netflix credentials. That's how I installed Into The Breach. Didn't even realize they had the entire manifest in the Netflix app.

I appreciate the suggestion, but it doesn't even show up in the Google Play Store when I search for it. This has been my experience with mobile gaming on Android: if my device is below spec (which is often is, since it's a $150 Moto E from three years ago), the store won't even show the games to me.

Ah, that makes sense. I always assumed the Play Store would work on Steam rules where you could try to run with below spec, but it's good to know that's wrong.

Slumberland looks cool af and I can't wait to watch that with my kids at Thanksgiving.

That looks delightful

Both of those looks absolutely wonderful.

Not seen it mentioned here but we really enjoyed Mo. A Palestinian asylum seeker in an administrative limbo in Houston. It escalates in a really satisfying way. Hope it gets a second run if episodes.

Whoa! New season of Derry Girls!

That first episode of the new season was ASTOUNDING.
