The GWJ JRPG Club Version 2.5 HD Remaster: Announcing our Q2 2024 Game!

I will second Final Fantasy XIII.

I will nominate Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book. Been on my list to try for quite awhile now.

Seconding Atelier Sophie! Our list so far, with times per HowLongToBeat (low end is their Main number, high end is Main + Extra):

Nominated and Seconded:
Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book (PS4, PS3, Vita, Windows, Switch) (35.5 - 44 hrs)
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360, Windows) (48-61.5 hrs)
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen (SNES, PS1) (21.5 - 32 hrs)

Nominated, but not Seconded:
None

Wow, usually nominations come in hot on day 1. A bit surprised to only see 3 so far!

After failing to beat two games and not participating in the most recent one, I’m just a pretender :).

I'll throw in a nom for Final Fantasy IV (2 US).

I'll second it. I've been meaning to replay it for a while. Not sure if I'd get the Pixel remaster or just play the PSP version I have somewhere.

All this talk of Ys Ix and no nominations? Well allow me!

Seconding Ys IX and nominating Radiant Historia.

Seconding Radiant Historia.

Oh yes I'd love to play Radiant Historia!

So since we had the big crossover for Fell Seal, I was thinking about an analysis that Mr. GT Chris at the end of last year on how many people are finishing each game and how many posts there are. It's back on page 57, but here's a link for anyone who doesn't want to hunt for it.

https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/...

I won't try to recreate all of it with all the games played since then, but just looking at Fell Seal right now, it looks like we have 11 people who have finished it (so far), with 337 posts. That is enough to tie it for Chrono Trigger with the most completions for a game, and 4th for number of posts. And I think there are still a couple of people who are trying to get through it, so there's a decent chance of it taking the record for most completions outright.

So the great crossover extravaganza event definitely generated a bunch of activity, as hoped.

Now I'm not saying someone should nominate Soul Hackers, and I'm certainly not trying to nominate a second game, but I'd totally second it if someone happened to perhaps suggest it *wink wink*

Soul Hackers would be a good excuse to get my 3DS out. 3DS, not DS, right? Nominated.

I have a half? played save of Radiant Historia so yeah it would be nice to finish.

2022 the send-off for the 3DS?

Well Ys 9 was going to be my nomination, so if you want to nominate another, you can have my ticket! That sounds shadier than I intended...

I am sort of there with you. I am not lacking for games played or finished in the hobby, but I have a pretty poor track record with the club despite my interest in it.

I did try to get through Fell Seal but ran out of steam halfway through.

That said, there are some games that I got the motivation to push through from the club that ended up being favorites of mine (Trails in the Sky first entry, and Valkyria Chronicles).

Seconded!

You guys keep nominating games I own and want to play/replay

Things are picking up!

Nominated and Seconded:
Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book (PS4, PS3, Vita, Windows, Switch) (35.5 - 44 hrs)
Final Fantasy IV (SNES, many other platforms) (22 - 26.5 hrs)
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360, Windows) (48-61.5 hrs)
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen (SNES, PS1) (21.5 - 32 hrs)
Radiant Historia (DS, 3DS) (29 - 44.5 hrs)
SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (Sega Saturn, PS, 3DS) (28 - 37.5 hrs)
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (PS4, Windows, Switch, Stadia) (26.5 - 40.5 hrs)

Nominated, but not Seconded:
None

Only about half a day left to nominate! If you'd like to recommend a game for our group, this coming quarter, now's the time. Get those votes in!

I better finish off Live a Live quicky! These are all good nominations.

I'll probably pass if we do a Final Fantasy as I've already played them all. IV and XIII are favourites of mine though, so I'd love to join the discussion if they win.

If IV wins, I think this will be at least the 6th time I’ll have played it to completion.

If XIII wins, I’ll give it the ol’ college try. Played once, stalled out in whatever that open world area was called.

All right, so voting is closed, and our contenders are:

Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy XIII
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen
Radiant Historia
SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox

Platforms and length listed above; this list is for easy voting.

We're going to skip the "pick" round and go straight to ranked-choice voting. Here's how it will work:

  • Voting will be open until 9 p.m. U.S. Eastern time on Monday, 9/26 (UTC - 5).
  • In order of preference, rank all of the games you're interested in playing with the club. Don't rank any games you're not interested in playing.
  • Once voting closes, we will go through an elimination process until a winner is declared. It works like this: (1) I eliminate all games with zero first-place votes, because those games can never pass a game with any first-place votes; (2) I eliminate the games with the least support one-by-one (first: by evaluating first-place votes; second, by using second-place votes as a tiebreaker; third, if we need an additional tiebreaker, we look at overall # of votes); (3) eventually, one game has majority support!

Let's go, everyone!

My list:
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen
Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book
Radiant Historia
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox
Final Fantasy IV - still holding out hope for a Switch release of the pixel remaster
Final Fantasy XIII
SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers - I'm going to play P5R when it comes out on Switch, and I have a strict "one SMT battle system at a time" policy :)

My list:

1.) Final Fantasy IV
2.) Radiant Hysteria
3.) Ogre Bottle: March of the Block Queen

My list:
1. Final Fantasy XIII
2. Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen
3. Final Fantasy IV
4. Radiant Historia
5. SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers

1. Radiant Historia
2. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox
3. Final Fantasy IV
4. Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book
5. Final Fantasy XIII
6. Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen

Not voting, but there are several entries that, if they win, I might attempt to keep up with the club. Nice range of selections, folks!

SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen
Final Fantasy XIII

I'd love another Ys game but I just don't have a platform for Ys IX.

1. Radiant Historia
2. Final Fantasy IV

I think that's all I own.

But looks like XIII is on Steam sale until Sept 28.

1. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox
2. Final Fantasy XIII
3. Final Fantasy IV
