Spiritfarer Catch All

Airdropping in because I want to play this soon. Should I get this on PS4 or Switch? Is there a performance difference? Is one more playable?

It works perfectly fine on Switch, with decent load times, so it should be at least as performant on the PS4 as well. I got it on Switch for couch/bed gaming and the occasional docked gametime. It works great in handheld mode, although some of the crafting ingredients are hard to discern on the small screen sometimes.

It crashed on me on Switch even after an update or too. Probably had a total of 10 crashes that weren't a huge problem because the autosaving is good. Performance was fine except it would hitch and slow in a couple spots where there were a bunch of things on screen.

I'd still just buy it on Switch if you want to play it on Switch and have the option for portability like I did.

My friend was playing on Switch and they literally can’t continue because of crashes.

I had a few crashes on Switch, most I lost was 30 minutes but I did hear of people who encounter game-stopping bugs. It's disappointing to hear they still haven't patched this out. I kind of assumed they did, as patches regularly came out while I was still playing the game.

I finally finished this a few minutes ago, though my opinion remains pretty much the same as what I've said earlier in this thread: this is a wonderful 15 or so hour game they inexplicably nested inside a grindy and somewhat frustrating 30-40 hour game. I disliked most of the characters in the latter half of the game, especially Bruce & Mickey and Elena. When I could finally get rid of them I was disappointed there wasn't a prompt to say "don't let the spirit door hit you on the way out!" Anyway, despite the bloat I thought this was a very worthwhile experience and I look forward to seeing g what this team does next (and I hope they edit more).

50% off on Switch and PC right now. Maybe PS4 too? I haven't checked.

Any performance issues on Switch?

Looks like there's 2 free content updates too. Are those on console as well?

Don't know how widespread it is, but my friend ran into a game breaking bug on Switch that hasn't been patched yet.

Edit: Nevermind. Time changes your memory.

Finally started on Switch, all handheld. It's delightful so far. Just to the 2nd island.

Yep!

I didn't realize there was a topic for this game! I recently finished. No problems with the playstation physical version on PS5. I enjoyed the game, but it was a bit longer than it needed to be.

That's on me a little, though. I ended the game with piles of food and resources I didn't need. This isn't a farming sim where you need to constantly maximize your output, with your gardens and kitchen working nonstop.

I'm a little bummed that there are a pair of achievements based on a minor mid-game decision where you can only get one. I easily got every other trophy except one of these, and I'd need to replay half the game to get it. Not a big deal, but it would have been satisfying to platinum.

No achievements on Switch version. I'm just having fun.

I saw a tip to double up field, kitchen, etc but not doing it yet, if ever. Partially because I don't have enough basic trees haha. But yeah trying not to grind myself into not having fun. When I get new things I try to cook once to fill out recipe book but otherwise I'm trying to chill.

Got 4 passengers and my 2nd upgrade power last night. Need to go back to a few islands and use my floaty hat now I think.

Also fully upgraded one passenger house. I think she is getting ready to leave? Will find out more later.

I've bumped into 2 more future passengers and started quests but I think I want to cap at 4 and not bring a new one in until someone leaves. That should also keep me from getting overwhelmed with too many mouths to feed.

I never felt a need to double up the kitchen, but an extra garden and field was nice.

There are six different types of tree, so you eventually probably want three orchards. There are I think five sheep to find, and it's nice to pen all of them.

I think duplicating anything else might be gratuitous. The spirits don't eat enough food to need more (and the "rewards" of them being very happy are lackluster).

Let my first passenger go today. That was pretty great. Have already met 2 new ones so will try to bring one aboard more.

Think I can finally get the icebreaker and explore more area too.

Yeah icebreaker, 2 new passengers, and several new materials.

I did glance through some of this thread and oh yeah I didn't realize the shipbuilder store scrolls to the right. Haha I though I was close to 16k for biggest ship. So there's a lot more game here.

Need to focus though so I don't get burned out like some of you seem to have.

I absolutely adore Spiritfarer. I played the game just weeks after both my parents died in 2020 and it actually helped with the mourning process and come to terms with their (and my) mortality.

Even if you don't have a similar situation Spiritfarer is such a wonderful game.

So Alice was my 3rd through the door last night, even though I got Atul and Astrid first.

Picked up Gustav and Giovanni. And looking at quests it was clear I needed to get through rock areas in the boat. But I didn't have any fire glow or whatever. So looked it up and oh there's a new event from Gustav.

Anyway moving to new area with a bunch of new islands now. Maybe I can finally find some more crafting parts.

Still plugging along. Got nearly all the boat upgrades, finished recipes, etc. But it still looks like I have 3 more passenger homes to build?

I've started to glance at some quest details after a certain passenger(s) asked me for 100 of something then 100 of something else. Wasted my time with seeds and planting.

I'm at the point where I finished maxing boat size so I don't really need money anymore. And fruit trees, sheep, reset so fast, I don't even bother gathering. I really just want to burn through the end of this thing. But looks like I have to grind a bit of gold ore and pine wood to finish the last few things that are popping up.

The other day the game crashed on me, only 2nd time in a lot of hours. When I restarted it said I was only 60% done and I was shocked. If there's really that much left I might burn out like some of you did.

But last night I took

to the Everdoor and the little guy made me cry. So I guess I'll keep at it a little longer. The highs with this one are really high.

5 1/2 hours, 9% requests completed and I am loving this game on Android. It is the perfect little chill explore and craft and cook and upgrade game that I needed during a ton of stress in my life. The light platforming stuff so far is fun and forgiving. Thank you to Netflix for putting this in their game subscription service.

I would agree that part of enjoying this game is knowing when to just ignore gathering resources you don't really need, and staying focused on what you do.

So I just finished the game at 100% and I only have one question:

Spoiler:

How do you stop crying? :D

I'll have to catch up and read all of the posts! But in short... what a gem.

*High Five*

Having completed 'Disco Elysium', I started on 'Spirtfarer' this weekend. I think I'm still in the tutorial, but I'm enjoying the experience. Though the two games are very different, aspects of the gameplay loop are similar: read, then think, then do. For me, it's a welcome breath of fresh air from the 'react & shoot' that I've become (all too) used to.

I hope the game continues to be a gentle experience...

Still at it. Have just been having short sessions so I don't burn out. Got all the final 3 passengers I was missing finally, and taking a couple to the Everdoor tomorrow probably. Maybe near the end.

100% the collection stuff. Got the last ship upgrade once I finally got XP potion items. Still have 3 or 4 side quest tasks that I haven't done just because I haven't been near those islands and I'm not going out of my way. Don't think this will be a 100% completion but it's really close. I did a bit too much.

Early on I wish I had been told to just target crates along your route as much as possible. I've gotten so many free seeds and items from that, I never should have been spending money on seeds. Eventually everything snowballed and I got more money that I know what to do with. But there were times where I was struggling in the mid game and needed a few more thousand for this or that, and the hundreds I had spent on seeds added up.

Also thought I could sell everything and then got a stupid sidequest from the shop boat that requires 2 diamonds which I have none of now. Minor annoyance. But I have like 200k currency and seems like I should just be able to buy those things and complete. Again just going to ignore some side quests and beeline the finish now.

I got through a bunch of the scenes with passenger

Spoiler:

Lily

and oh boy I think I understand what's going on in this game now. Looking forward to finishing.

But yes it's way too long.
