Gamers With Jobs Donation Drive 2022: September 7th - October 4th

Before we begin, we understand that this year has been financially challenging for many. Please know that we see you, we feel for you, and we are here for you. Many who want to donate may not be able to, and that is okay. We value you just for being here and helping make GWJ a wonderful, inclusive, compassionate community. You are the reason GWJ exists year after year. We thank you, always!

It is time once again for the annual GWJ Donation Drive!

We're honored again this year to kick off the annual Gamers With Jobs Donation Drive. It's the one time of the year we ask for your support to keep the lights on and to allow us to remain one of the few ad-free websites on the internet. Your contributions help us to run the GWJ Conference Call podcast, cover hosting fees, and more! Have questions? We have a General Donation Drive FAQ listed here.

Please go to patreon.com/gwj to kick in whatever you are willing to donate.

One important note—if you want the rewards, please make sure the email you use for Patreon is the same one you use for your GWJ account. If your emails are different, refer to the FAQ linked above.

While Patreon is our preference for supporting the site, we understand that some folks still prefer using PayPal. Your donation will still count! You can click on the PayPal button below if you’d rather go that route. Please include your forum name and reward tier in the notes so we can associate the payment with your site name and make sure you get tagged.

2022: Progress on GWJ Site Overhaul

In the latter half of 2023, Drupal will stop supporting version 7.0, so we're currently in the trenches of migrating. We've had an amazing amount of support from the community in recreating the structure to shift from one platform to the next, and our fellows are gearing up to start working on some front-end architecture. We can't wait to see what it's going to look like!

Donor Reward Tiers

We learned last year that shipping gets really costly this time of year, and it's not getting any cheaper. To take some of the pressure off, we'll be doing things a bit differently for 2022. All reward items will be ordered after the donation drive concludes and ship early 2023, which means we won't have any caps on any of our donation tiers. Also, we sourced vendors this year that won't require ordering specific quantities, which makes this a lot easier. If you are donating for something with a physical reward, these rewards are priced to include shipping costs. To lessen the risk of unexpected costs or delays, we're also looking to focus a bit more on the digital side of things in order to be more sustainable in the long run, as well as avoid some of the more dull realities of licensure and taxation.

Donation Rewards are primarily tracked through our Patreon. If you are donating through PayPal and want to redeem a tier, please include which tier reward you are looking to receive.

Once the donation drive concludes on October 4th, each tier-level donator will receive an email with a survey link to provide things like reward details or shipping addresses.

20-year anniversary donors

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Gamers With Jobs, we are offering a special 20-year Loyalty Pack for those who have donated each and every year, regardless of tier. The 2022 Loyalty Pack includes: a d20 golden icon, a 20-year design item, one GWJ commemorative d20, one exclusive GWJ lanyard, the header carousel edit feature, and inclusion in the new GWJ Alumni list in the GWJ User Guide.

$2 Level: Gamers With Jobs Golden Icons

Golden community icon for the forums. A classic. The little guy that goes right under your forum avatar. This is the workhorse tier that keeps the lights on and the forums alive.

This year, our 20-year donors will receive a golden d20!

$5 Level: Gamers With Jobs Conference Call Podcast Shout-Out

Tier Reward Includes: GWJCC Podcast shout out and yearly golden icon.

We’ll read your short, custom message (300 words or less) on the Conference Call. Shout out a friend, thank someone for being awesome, or share whatever is on your mind!

$15 Level: add to the website header image carousel!

Tier Reward Includes: Front page carousel edit, GWJCC Podcast shout-out, and yearly golden icon

This is a new tier we're adding this year! As we gear up to build our new site, we want to make sure a few things come over with us to make it feel like home. Our site header is coming along with us, but we'd like to add a new twist to reflect the foundation of our site: this community!

For this reward, Amoebic will work with you to create a new element or feature to include in the header image. Want to make Stan think about cheese? Has our header always lacked velociraptors? Have a personalized stan you'd like to pop into the rotation? Want to put your actual face on there for some reason? Let's talk. Of course, as nice as it is to surprise someone, please ask permission before using their ideas or likeness.

There are also rules regarding what we can feature, which will be broken down in the feedback survey if you donate at this level. Unfortunately, there are laws and copyright we must observe. Also, please no trademarked, political, religious, or explicit content, and all content must adhere to our code of conduct.

$20 Level: Limited Edition 20-year Commemorative GWJ d20

Tier Reward Includes: Commemorative GWJ d20 die, front page carousel edit, GWJCC Podcast shout-out, and golden forum icon.

We will be working with the fine folks over at DnDdice.com to create a custom 34mm d20 to commemorate our 20-year anniversary for Gamers With Jobs. These are a single, one-time run, so get yours in before the October 4th deadline. (20-side face design not finalized. Depending on the printer's feedback, it may need to be adjusted for best fit.)

$35 Level: GWJ Lanyard & d20

Tier Reward Includes: Exclusive GWJ Lanyard, Commemorative GWJ d20 die, front page carousel edit, GWJCC Podcast shout-out, and yearly golden icon.

We are currently in discussion with a company to create custom GWJ lanyards! The ones we're looking at are made from recycled hemp crop stems and are eco-friendly. As we're in the early stages of design discussions, we don't have pictures yet but will share in a future Patreon and site update once the design has been settled and approved.

We're still tweaking the designs, and hoping to be able to incorporate more red. The printing company may say the stan is too detailed, so he may be replaced with a modified red silhouette, or the text may be red depending on what they say. We're aware this is a really rough photoshop! The actual template is a bit hard to conceptualize, so this is more of a spiritual representation. The spirit is just a little tired.

$50 Level: Custom golden icon

Tier Reward Includes: Custom golden icon, Exclusive GWJ Lanyard, Commemorative 35mm GWJ D20 die, front page carousel edit, and GWJCC Podcast shout-out, and golden icon (Your rank will still update).

At this level, Amoebic will work with you to create a custom golden icon for you to wear with pride on the current and upcoming GWJ site! Rest assured, individuals with custom golden icons on the current site will have their custom icon carried over to the new site. One of the conditions of this feature is that it can't look too much like any of the existing designs, cannot be copyrighted nor explicit, and must adhere to our code of conduct.
