NFL 2022: The Week 1 thread

Another cord-cutter here. I use an OTA antenna for Sundays and Prime for Thursdays. Like PS said, the antenna doesn't always work so well when the weather's weird. For Sunday night games I sometimes stream via Peacock because the NBC affiliate is a long ways from my house (but the OTA signal was rock solid for Rams-Bills on Thursday.)

For MNF, I get ESPN via, uh, other means.

I've used Hulu with live TV in the past and it was fine. It was basically cable, but streaming. The only reason I gave it up was because I wasn't watching anything but sports (which I could get elsewhere for less).

*cough**cough*seasons4u*cough**cough*

Hulu with Live TV is running a 3 month promo which prices it per month at a relatively sane price. That’s what I’m doing until I can finally just get Sunday Ticket 100% hassle free

Yeah that's the one I saw. $20 off a month. Think signup is through the first week of Oct. Won't quite get you through the season but might be nice.

Making your child suffer through a Geno Smith offense? CPS has been alerted.

Hahaha. (BOOMER VOICE) Hey, if I had to suffer through Dave Kreig's fumbles and the Kelly Stauffer and Dan McGwire and Mirer eras, HE CAN LEARN TO DEAL WITH GENO. lololol

We were so hard up for QBs around here we talked ourselves in to Jon Kitna! I even had season tickets for the Dilfer Experience!

He's rocking his Shaq Griffin jersey today and has been BEGGING for Pizza Hut (?!) for when the Hawks play against Russell on Monday. He's 9 so he's still trying to wrap his head around trades and cApItAlIsM in sports.

We'll order Pizza Hut on Monday after school and I'll probably do Sling since they've got a 50% off deal for the first month. $30-ish/mo through December isn't too bad.

Damn, you got him wearing a past uniform of a Jaguars player too? CPS has updated the file.

I remember when I was 12 and threw a sh*t-fit over the Joe Montana trade.

Apparently the weather is getting quite serious out there in Chicago:

Fantasy players, you might want to sit down your Bears and 49ers. Provided you didn't go and make half your roster 49ers players, that is.

And speaking of Niners...

George Kittle told reporters he felt "significantly better" today, and will do "everything he can" to play on Sunday. So we'll see.

... Kittle's Week 1 comeback plan has reached an end, as the team has designated him Out. Probably for the best, especially with bad weather.

sh*tty field and sh*tty weather? That's going to be a fun one.

@ Legion: The Panthers elevated your boy Arron Mosby to the 53 for Sunday. Not sure yet if he'll be active, but it's a good bet he will be bc Carolina is a little short at LB.

They're also a little short at QB (because Mayfield is 6-1 GET IT?!) but that's a different issue.

Update: Mosby is inactive today, which is baffling. Why promote him from the practice squad if you're not going to dress him?

Also, Laviska Shenault isn't active today, either. On one hand, that's not surprising, as he probably hasn't had enough time to really learn the playbook. OTOH, it's concerning bc the Panthers traded for a guy they have no clue what to do with. They've had two weeks to draw up something for him, but nope.

Unrelated: Bears-Niners apparently will play in a pond.

So, Chicago's "Keep The Bears At Soldier Field" plan is getting off to a roaring start here.

Way to many experts think the Eagles will be good which means they will stink.

I cannot believe this is true but apparently they're selling Washington Commanders mugs with the outline of Washington, except it's the wrong Washington.

Amen. Not looking bad at the moment, though. Pick-6, booya!

Lions aren't looking too bad, either. I've always had a soft spot for them since they drafted Barry.

That penalty on the Bears holder for drying the field with a towel was unusual. I didn't know that was a rule, but it sorta makes sense.

Yeah, you can't bring things onto the field to manipulate the playing surface, even in a benign way.

Lamar dropping dimes for TDs. And of course 3-4 drops in the 1st quarter by his WRs when he hit them in the hands.

But I think he just threw a no-look TD... hehe

Oh wait now a 55 yard TD by Lamar, 50 of it in the air. Hahaha.

Is Joe Flacco elite?

That first TD was on the third read too.

Mvp list:
Joe Burrow

Could still win this game even but ya. His stats for the season are going to be so skewed already.

Well, a big fat rain-soaked penalty-filled choke for the Niners, who left a lot of points on the board.

Need to clean things up fast.

Saints lead with 23 sec left... back from 16 down.

And Panthers up under a minute too. Browns trying to blow 3 score lead.

Check that, Cleveland FG from 60.

They were my survivor pick. Might just keep re-rolling and pick the 49ers to keep the voodoo on them.

Well this happened faster than usual...

Fresno State, 49ers, and Jaguars all choke games they were leading and outgained* their opponent.

* technically Washington edged out the Jags in yardage on the final clock kill down sequence.

Not sure that today's game will change minds either way.

How did the Bengals get back to OT?

With a one-handed catch at the pylon with 0:02 left.

Then the Steelers blocked the PAT.
