Other Sports Catch-All

I guess if all you care about is money and the Saudi check is bigger than TNT and the endorsements combined, there's your answer.

What a way to live your one life.

Barkley back.

"Everybody's making up words like 'sportswashing' and 'dirty money.' I'm like, listen, if you play sports, we all take money from some sources you might not love or appreciate," Barkley said Thursday. "I don't want to be a hypocrite. These guys [LIV golfers] are trying to make a living. I wish them nothing but the best. Same thing with my friends on the PGA Tour. But everybody is just kinda like trying to play the moral card.

"For some reason, everyone wants to place selective outrage," Barkley said. "I'm never going to let that happen on my watch."

All money is dirty, so I am just going to take the most and dirtiest as I can.

Edit: Sir Charles backing down, will stick to basketball.

Maybe they'll get Trump instead.

WWE needs a new ringmaster. Put him out to pasture over there.

The biggest takeaways from the LIV golfers' eye-opening lawsuit against the PGA Tour

This is actually a bit complicated, because the PGA is desperately attempting to maintain something of a monopoly on the sport, clearly. However...

Do the LIV players have a chance to prevail in court?

One of the challenges for the LIV Golf players, according to Craig Seebald, a partner and antitrust expert at Vinson & Elkins law firm, is proving injury. Many of the players who left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf received guaranteed signing bonuses of between $100 million and $200 million.

"Normally, when you're representing plaintiffs, you say, 'Oh my God, our plaintiffs are so hurt. They're so injured. They're going out of business," Seebald said. "But the allegation in the complaint is that to get these players across the transom to be part of LIV, they had to overpay them. They were surprised they had to pay all these upfront payments to get people over. I guess they're saying that makes it hard in the long term for them to be viable, despite the fact they have the Saudis giving them millions of dollars."

Seebald believes it will be difficult for the three LIV players seeking temporary restraining orders to participate in the FedEx Cup Playoffs to get them. Seebald did note that the Northern District of California is a popular choice of venue for antitrust plaintiffs. It's the same court that essentially blew up the NCAA's amateurism model in the Ed O'Bannon case.

"I think the chances are pretty slim that they're going to do that [issue a restraining order]," Seebald said. "This is essentially a money case. I think the court would say, 'Look, we can sort out the money later. This is a big case.' The judge might not want to just kind of jump in without knowing many of the facts before doing something that extraordinary."

Horschel, a member of the PGA Tour Player Advisory Committee, also wondered how the LIV Golf players could argue they were injured after receiving lucrative signing bonuses and competing for $25 million purses.

"Why do they need to be a part of the PGA Tour?" Horschel said. "Why do they need a double dip? Why do they need to have their cake and eat it at the same time and sort of rub it in all the other PGA Tour players' faces? That just doesn't make sense to me."

....like, just so clearly, so much of this on the LIV player's part amounts to "I should be able to do whatever I want without repercussion and facing repercussions is a violation of my rights."

It's almost like these millionaires have convinced themselves they are the real victims.

I wonder where golfers, the most traditionalist of sports, learned this type of behavior?

Tiger's holding secret meetings with PGA golfers to discuss the tour's future in light of LIV. You know, the guy who's close friends with TFG who held a LIV event at one of his courses and is suspected of maybe, maybe just maybe handing off classified nuclear technology documents to the government backing LIV.

GOAT.

Hey, if Dennis Rodman can get involved with Korean diplomacy, she can get involved with Korean war.

If nothing else, those of us who were watching solely for Serena are spared having to hear "Deuuuuuccceee" over and over again.

The President's Cup is being played:

Sure that isn't the Former President's Cup?

Horrifying.

Literally horrifying.

I don't care about any form of fishing whatsoever, and don't even eat seafood, but as a sports fan, this is fascinating. You've got to watch the video of the moment cheating is discovered. The crowd of righteously indignant competitors sounds exactly like you would think it would.

I was promised an end to malarkey Biden!

It's exquisite. I'm just angry no-one took video of the moment when someone took a look at one of the fish and yelled "THAT AIN'T NO FIFTEEN PAAANDER!"

The end of that blog entry absolutely makes it. The first half does a fine job of summing up this fishy business to us laymen, but in the end, the author waxes poetic. It's too long to quote it all, but I think the highlight was "I rather fight a black bear than cross a sober competitive fisherman."

Thought one of those guys was going to take a swing.

Now we have cheating in Irish dancing. God, they're cheating in everything nowadays.

If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying.

Of course this happens after Defector lost their Irish Dance expert.

What a month to be a sports reporter who only covers chess, poker, fishing, and Irish dancing.

If you could make a living (buy a house, have a fam, send kids to college, retire ok), how awesome would that job be?

Update: It's chess lawsuit time!

I do not watch NASCAR and know very little about it.

But this is hilarious video-game sh*t.

NCAA Volleyball bracket.

Cards a 1-seed, woohoo. Final Four last year, let's do it again.

LTA fined £820,000 for ban on Russian players

The Lawn Tennis Association has been fined £820,000 by the ATP for banning Russian and Belarusian male players from this summer's grass-court events.

The ban was imposed in reaction to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The governing body has also been warned it could lose its ATP membership if a similar decision is made next year.

The LTA says it is "deeply disappointed" and has accused the ATP of showing a "surprising lack of empathy for the situation in Ukraine."

The punishment follows six-figure fines for the LTA and the All England Lawn Tennis Club, who organise Wimbledon, from the WTA for excluding female Russian and Belarusian players.

The ATP, which oversees men's tennis events outside of the Grand Slams, allows Russians and Belarusians to compete in Tour events but not under their national flags.

"The ATP, in its finding, has shown no recognition of the exceptional circumstances created by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, or the international sporting community and UK Government's response to that invasion," the LTA said in a statement.

"The ATP appear to regard this matter as a straightforward breach of their rules - with a surprising lack of empathy shown for the situation in Ukraine, and a clear lack of understanding of the unique circumstances the LTA faced."

The LTA has been fined $200,000 (£164,018) for each of the five ATP events it staged this year: the tour level events at The Queen's Club and Eastbourne, and the Challenger tournaments at Surbiton, Nottingham and Ilkley.

The LTA followed the All England Club's (AELTC) lead when it decided to ban all Russian and Belarusian players from Wimbledon, following government pressure.

On Wednesday, Thomas Bach - president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) - said he disagreed with the decision by Wimbledon and the LTA to ban Russian and Belarusian players, saying: "Governments should not decide the grounds on who participates in which sports events. [It] should be on sporting merits, not on political interference."

Worth every farthing.

Woohoo! Louisville Cardinals volleyball in the Final Four, 2nd year in a row.
