Cyberpunk Catch-All

I need to play this again and just finish it. I enjoyed my time with it just got distracted like all things nowadays for me.

I've been picking away at all the side missions finally now that I have a 3080. This game is quite interesting! They were really trying to make a GTA style game and just couldn't quite pull it off. Worth playing but just makes you dream about what it could be. Really, it just makes you realize how stupid crazy those Rockstar games are. They really shouldn't exist. So much goes into them!

I don't think I'd agree they were *trying* to make a GTA game.

They were making a CDPR game, with a lot of marketing that pulled in GTA fans. But it was never going to be a GTA game, imo.

They were definitely trying to and marketing something as big and as immersive as GTA. I wouldn't cut them any slack that somehow "we" misunderstood what they were advertising.

You have proof? Because i only remember them marketing it as being able to jump into the TTRPG setting of Night City that is as big or bigger than The Witcher. Pretty sure it was and always advertised as primarily a RPG.

Did they sh*t the bed with the implementation, god yea, but let's be honest about it.

I didn't claim the marketing was misunderstood or say they deserve slack. But I don't think the game as it exists, how it's structured/designed, or in the context of their other games, is/was *trying* to be a GTA style game.

I think you could argue it's influenced by GTA, in the way many open world games are, but I don't think that's the same as intending to be GTA.

I would refer to this piece of marketing being mocked here as them clearly trying to create a GTA like game.

https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkga...

How it was marketed and the type of game the developers were trying to make are not the same thing.

The same way how a movie is marketed and what kind of movie a director was trying to make are not the same thing.

So my point was, I don't think given how the game is designed and the history of the developer it was ever going to be a GTA-like game, or intended to be a GTA-like game. Which is not a claim anyone is deserved slack.

But honestly the marketing/how it was released debate is done, dusted, and general consensus is that it was a mess, so if those are replies to what I said, I'm tapping out.

I thought, once the gameplay was revealed, it was going to be an open-world Deus Ex. GTA never crossed my mind and feels like a lazy comparison.

Not sure why it would be "lazy" to compare an open world game to the golden standard open world game where there are many comparable mechanics *especially* the part about driving, purchasing, and thieving vehicles.

But yes sorry for bringing up this argument again. In paid full price (on PC) and the game was fun for me and I moved on.

being compared to and being marketed as are two different things. I think there's no one here trying to defend them on their implementation.

Mostly because the parts you've mentioned are barely part of the actual game and Cyberpunk really doesn't have anything else in common with GTA.

I distinctly recall people comparing the gameplay shown in previews to a GTA game, and CDPR vehemently saying this was first and foremost an RPG. I don' t think they ever really marketed this as a GTA type of experience.

... but driving around the city certainly feels GTA-like.

Any super-fans here have copies of this game on both PC and console and tested out the cross-platform save support that came in with Patch 1.6?

I will try it. I have both PC and PS5 copies.

Pretty seamless and quick to upload/download. Much better than Rockstar's Club thing. I might start playing on PS5 now...

Cooool! Thanks Balthezor.
I suppose the only restriction would be trying to port a PC save that's been using mods over to console?

Mildly disappointed that the SaveGame Editor for this doesn't work anymore. Once I play through a game legit once, I kinda wanna just dick around and cheat and have fun in any further playthroughs. Wish they'd added in a console so I could just make V even more violent Ares if I wanted to.

Someone let me know if this gets brought back or a console or other tool is made. I played it through legit once, now I just wanna f*ck around.

EDIT: HALLELUJAH, IT'S FINALLY BACK

Gonna start a new playthrough tonight, with settings set to Maximum Dick Around.

Does the new DLC seem worth a reinstall?

I've never used mods, so not sure on that aspect, but will probably break the save.

I use a few mods on PC, but nothing that affects gameplay balance or stats. Mostly quality of life/UI type stuff.

I dunno if every mod "fails gracefully" so to speak, but for the ones I use if the mod isn't present that feature just won't be available in-game. It doesn't affect my save game data.

I tested out Cross-progression between my Xbox and my PC and it worked pretty seamlessly.

It only seems to sync your most recent save on each platform (fair enough, I guess).

After updating to 1.6 on my XSX and PC, I went through the hoops to register/login to GoG on both platforms.

After I did that, I automatically saw my PC save on the Xbox side of things. You'll see a little "Cloud" icon next to the save that's being synced for cross progression.

However, my most recent Xbox save didn't sync to the PC side initially. I had to load one of my saves on Xbox, then save it again. Once I did that, the "new" save synced over successfully.

My Xbox save was from when I had an Xbox One X and version 1.3 of the game, so I'm genuinely surprised that worked.

tl;dr: I was able to load my Xbox save on my PC, and my PC save on my Xbox.

One thing that I like about that, is one of my favorite mods is the "Appearance change unlocker":

https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/3850

Because you can save different versions of your V as a preset. This means if I want to start a new game, but with my same appearance settings, I can create a save on the PC side of things after loading an appearance preset with that mod, then continue it on Xbox.

Previously I wrote down the hairstyle/skin tone/whatever and then manually toggled each setting when I'd start a new game, which is a lot more tedious.

I haven't futzed with any of the pseudo-ng+ mods or the savegame editor, so not sure if those would work fine with cross-progression. But I don't see why they wouldn't unless CDPR has hard coded in checking to make sure your stats are legit on console.

Wow, thanks for that report, ccoates!

I actually buckled a couple days ago and bought the Series X version at half-price. I was able to do the cross-progression stuff with my existing PC saves pretty painlessly. It's so cool!

The wording in the official 1.6 patch notes and FAQ was not the best imho. I think they just wanted to highlight regional restrictions to cross-save but ended it making it sound like PC -> console transfers would not be possible across the board.

Yeah! Exactly. Several sites reported that PC to console transfers weren't possible, and I was super bummed.

But then someone on the Cyberpunk Discord said it worked for them so I decided to give it a try.

It really made it sound like ALL consoles are subject to the region restrictions and that it wouldn't work for anyone.

I noticed today they've clarified things a bit:

https://support.cdprojektred.com/en/cyberpunk/xbox/sp-technical/issue/2242/cross-progression-in-game-versions-with-regional-restrictions

* Regional restrictions affect Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Japanese SKUs.

But that definitely wasn't how the page was worded two days ago.

Do region restrictions in this case mean that the content itself is different? And that's why the saves aren't compatible? (Maybe some of the sex/nudity?)

Edit:
https://censorship-history.fandom.com/wiki/Cyberpunk_2077

In the Middle Eastern versions of the game distributed in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, V, the player character in the game, cannot be trans or non-binary. Genitalia cannot be adjusted. V is also unable to engage in homosexual relationships with other people. Many explicit sex scenes were censored.
Indecent nudity and sight of dismemberment and internal human organs are always censored on the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 due to CERO's rating guidelines.

In addition, adjustments to the size of male V's penis and pubic hair are unavailable in the Japanese console versions of the game. Explicit romance scenes containing nudity have been censored. Risqué advertisements were edited with a static effect.

I really dig the Edgerunners anime on Netflix. Then again, I did most Trigger anime. They really did a good job using the setting from the game to make some fun characters and story.

Maybe they're downloading over dial-up and need to get a head start.

I will say the Netflix series that just dropped made me almost reinstall. Almost.

I plan to at some point to play a female corpo (first time through was male street rat), but there's too much good stuff for me to try out for the first time right now...

It also depends if you're going by how CDPR defines DLC, or if you mean the expansion.

CDPR defines DLC exclusively as small free extra bits of content. In this case, the new weapons/clothes/gigs they've added in 1.6

The expansion won't come out until next year.

Some of the new guns seem fun, and they've also tweaked melee and added a few new weapons like a chainsaw sword.

If you already played Cyberpunk and completed every gig/got every weapon/found every secret, I don't think it's enough to warrant a full replay. But if you're just curious and have an old save? Sure, why not.

I think OneDragon has decent Cyberpunk videos that cover changes without clickbait:

Transmog alone might be pretty tempting! Weapon skinning would be a great next step, but isn't included in the update (that just applies to clothing).

It's interesting how they decided to approach it. You build "outfits" from your wardrobe in your apartments. Then, those outfits can be equipped via the special outfit slot (the one you mainly used during story missions like The Heist for your business suit).

Once an outfit is equipped, you can swap out any clothes you want and your appearance won't change.

Aw, you mean this experience is gone now?

(but seriously, at the end of my first playthrough, V looked like a futuristic Forever 21 had vomited on her.)
