Hidden Gems of Apple TV+

My wife and I are a few episodes into Season 3 of For All Mankind and while we're enjoying it, I think it's been getting weaker each season. Their various "interpersonal drama" storylines are getting increasingly eye-rolly, and even the science is getting shaky at times. S3E1 kicked it off to a bad start, and midway through the season they're still not quite recovered. Hoping they can pull it off by the season finale.

Oh dang. I've started re-watching from S1 and its so good. Hate to see them mess it up. Will get to S3 in another week or so. I'm on the "Hi Bob!" episode from S2.

I don't think they mess it up, but I agree with Boudreax, it does become more focused on the character dramas and less on the "what if" premise as time goes on.

It begins jumping sharks on the regular too.

Apparently this was announced several years ago, but I only just found out about it: Taika Waititi is making a Time Bandits series for Apple.

That’s an exceptionally good idea.

Severance. Watch it!

ok it took a while for me to get to Severance, but holy hell! I just finished the first season and need more now. Luckily a google search tells me they have just started filming season 2.

Loved Severance. A friend told me to sub to Apple TV+ just for that show and he was right.

If I didn't mention already, I recently finished Shining Girls. It didn't quite stick the landing but I enjoyed it a lot. Recommended.

Spirited was a really cute take on A Christmas Carol. I also had no idea going in that it was a musical.

And it’s a very competent one at that. I expect to see this turned into a Broadway show in a few years.

Yay! Slow Horses season 2 has arrived just in time to save me from my post Taskmaster ennui. First two episodes down and it’s got the same magic as season 1.

Bonus: In the books, I found the second (which season two is based on) a stronger story than the first.

I'm three episodes in to Slow Horses season 1 and very much enjoying it. Good timing with season 2 just landing, so I can carry on straight through. It's a recent resubscription for me so i've been queueing up some other series to watch. Next up likely Mythic Quest/Foundation/Tehran.

Watched Spirited and liked it. Didn't know it was new take on a classic and didn't know it was musical. The movie was overly long. The movie is over 2 hours. I thought it could be reduced by 30 minutes. I didn't know any of the actors could sing and found the songs to be pretty good.

Spirited was a lot of fun, but left me with a TON of questions about the afterlife. Also Christmas Present's accent.

Hello Tomorrow! This looks interesting. In a Jetsons-like alternate timeline, real estate salesman Billy Crudup is selling homes on the Moon. But something seems to be going wrong with his plans for an even better future...

That Hello Tomorrow! trailer feels like where Fallout was headed if the bombs never dropped.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but something in it gives me the sense that Fallout was the more fortunate timeline...

March 15th.

Finally.

Barbeque Sauce.

That looks surprisingly good!

I subscribed for a month to watch some MLS games (well that was a mistake) and Ted Lasso and I've been surprised at the quality of the other content I've checked out. Lasso was great. Foundation was quite good and Severance was amazing. Ill have to scan back through this thread to find more cuz now Im out of things I have any awareness of.

The MLS thing felt like a bait and switch. Yeah you can watch games but you have to watch them live. How is that a thing still? To watch a game after the fact you have to drop a huge amount on a 2nd subscription, and the interface spoils the results. Super annoying.

It's using the name of the series of sci-fi novels, rather than the name of only the first novel, so maybe they've planned it out appropriately.

I am so in!!!

Apple TV seems weirdly dedicated to sci fi and I am completely here for it.

I haven't read (or even heard of) the books, but some parts of that trailer are giving me Metropolis vibes. I'm in.

I remember liking Wool when I read it but can't actually remember anything about it. Other than it being about people living in a Silo.

I still remember certain events in Wool quite distinctly, it was a good read although quite a long one if I recall. I started Dust but it didn't grab me in the same way. I'm not surprised it was finally picked up, it seems like something that could be made on a reasonable budget with lots of character drama and mysteries.

Do you have any friends with T Mobile? In the past couple of weeks they all got a free 1yr subscription to MLS Pass on AppleTV+. As we are season ticket holders for our local team we got it for free. Only one away game but it's nice to go back and watch highlights. Overall, reception of the move to AppleTV+ from Bally's has been really positive.
