2022/23 Soccer Thread: Finals Week(s)

Guardiola football isn’t my favourite football to watch, but it’s the hardest football to beat, by far. How can you win a game with 30% possession, half of that inside your own half? West Ham have had a couple of chances today, but they’ve managed no sustained pressure, which is to say to beat City, you need to be almost perfect.

If this keeps up, the PL could be on a Bundesliga-like trajectory.

EDIT:

Triple change for City, Phillips, Mahrez and Palmer replacing Foden, De Bruyne and Rodri.

I mean come on.

New season, same ManU?

I'm sure they just need to buy 7 more central defenders to shore up their defence. I mean, it's not as if all the other players on the pitch, especially in central midfield, have much to do with their defensive fragility.

When Mou said finishing 2nd with United was his greatest achievement, I laughed it off, but.... erm...

Given the point differential at the end of last season between first and second, is it too late to tell Liverpool better luck next year?

You can't win the title in August but you can lose it.

Both played away. Both played in London. Pretty sure away points at Fulham were more assumed than away to West Ham.

Looking at City's early schedule they might pull away and stay ahead for a good stretch.

The Frenkie de Jong stuff is just getting comical.

I wonder if it's escalated this far vs just selling him because Barca might need to revert to the old contract to get some kind of relief before they do actually sell him?

Recent articles really don't address that part. They imply Barca want him to stay with old contract but I can't see in any way he also wants to stay? I'd have all my stuff packed ready to go.

That said it does look like he played yesterday in that Pumas game.

Genius move by Barca

Incredible. Spanish radio claim Barcelona jointly set-up a holdings company to which it paid €150m of its own money to buy its own assets (to inflate value of sale). La Liga rejected it as not "new" money. Barça must now pay €37.5m tax on this payment.

Oh. Ok it makes more sense now.

They don't know what they are doing. Which I guess we should of known when they lost Messi.

The deadline to the registration is going to be extra comical.

That story is amazing! Do they have one accountant on staff, or is this just a bunch of football "executives" trying to reinvent money laundering?

Ismailia Sarr from inside his own half.

It's like they're trying to pull a Leeds.

Watching fans attempt to discuss this online is just a fantastic illustration how many people have no idea what they're talking about but refuse to let that stop them from talking about a thing.

Anyway, La Liga blocked them from registering new players, so it should be interesting to see what they sell off next.

Fulham with a shout out in this week's Squires, if anyone knows a Fulham fan.

I mean, "trick Mitro into thinking we're still in the Championship" is arguably the best advice I've heard.

Is this a subtle joke, knowing that the OP of this thread is a Fulham fan?

I'm a big fan of the "FFS" badge on the Fulham shirt. And penitent Roy Keane.

I swear to God, if they changed the C to an S, I'd buy 100.

So... Ryan Giggs. Had no idea.

I…… oh. Sarcasm. I was worried there for a second.

Actually, it's not! I genuinely had nodea idea about...

/gestures at all of THAT

...until very recently!

I knew about him cheating on his spouse years in the past because of him getting a superinjunction but yeah, the recent news is a whole 'nother level.

I..... really? Ryan Giggs is now mostly famous for having a very hairy chest and nobbing his brother's wife. And then wholesale abusing the British legal system to try and keep it out of the papers.

Being a very good footballer runs a distant second to all of that.

I knew about the chest, I knew about the brother's wife banging.

Alladis? NO idea.

Chelsea to bail Barcelona out?

The Auba back to the prem with Chelsea I guess makes sense because of Tuchel.

Auba to Chelsea stinks of desperation all around.

I guess Tuchel loves some of his Dortmund children more than others.

An incredible free kick from the U20 Women's World Cup yesterday.

Though Australia went on to win the match.

DANG! Everything seemed run of the mill until they went to that wide shot, and all I could think was "you'd have to be stupid to shoot from there."

New Fulham forward Manor Solomon will undergo knee surgery which will rule him out for much of the season.
