Talking of Hellboy, I didn't mind the latest Hellboy film. I don't think the lead actor was a better Hellboy than Perlman, but the movie was fun and had its moments.

I saw it for free and felt ripped off.

That's a quote for the poster.

Anyway, a new show is up! That's because I forgot to post about Constantine in time. This week we revisit BATMAN AND ROBIN. It starts George Clooney, George Clooney's nipples and George Clooney's bat-bottom.

God is Closer Than Your Jugular Vein

Zen teacher/author Brad Warner, author of Hardcore Zen, Letters to a Dead Friend About Zen, Don’t Be a Jerk, Sit Down and Shut Up, and many more books about Zen, shares his thoughts about Zen and other stuff.

I've been watching Warner's channel for a while now and have read a couple of his books. However, I'm a little torn as - going by his Twitter likes - he may be a lockdown and vaccine skeptic, at least to some degree.

It's tough as his books had a lot of good info on something I didn't know anything about, but then I'm having to reconcile his expertise there with views that I think could be harmful. It doesn't invalidate him being an expert on Zen but it's always in the back of my head.

I Saw That Years Ago - What do you get when you cross a pig, a cannibal and a nun? MONKEY!

Monkey was a 1970s Japanese action TV show about Buddhism, based on an ancient Chinese story, that was dubbed for the UK market. We recorded this a while ago, so it's just coincidence its about Buddhism. However I'm pretty sure reading Warner's books helped me understand the series more.

I like to think of this as False Advertising: The Movie. The trailer made it look awesome, but the actually movie was boring and dull to 11 year old me.

You had advanced taste at a young age.

The trailer really makes it look like an action movie like Terminator but it was more of a sci-fi thriller if I remember right. I don't think I have seen it in the 30 years since the VHS release so maybe I should give it another shot.

Also I feel like I have had this conversation on here before. Did you do this movie before?

No, we hadn't done it before. But after watching so many films and seeing one's memories brought up short, it's understandable that we end up feeling the same things about different movies.

Matt Gourley (who's in that vid) is part of what makes Conan good.

There's a whole rabbithole of podcasts to go down if you look up other stuff Matt Gourley has done. It's one of my favourite rabbitholes!

Oh absolutely, Conan, Matt and Sona are the best team.

Past year or so I’ve been listening to Your Wrong About, 99% Invisible and Decoder Ring. These podcasts take things from our cultural zeitgeist - sometimes big events everyone remembers, sometimes overlooked or forgotten things - and examines why it is/was important, what it means that it happened and what misconceptions we might have about it.

What else is out there that might be similar to these?

Cautionary Tales, No Such Thing As A Fish, and UnderUnderstood are my current faves. All of them are fantastic.
