Hidden Gems of Hulu and Hulu+

The Old Man is pretty good and holy hell is Jeff Bridges in fantastic shape.

The Old Man is great. Bridges is doing a wonderful job. It's like John Wick's grandpa with a bit of Jack Ryan thrown in. I did not see that coming in episode 3. Not at all.

Finished first season of The Bear. Fantastic show that really shines because it's based on character development.

I'm a little disappointed in the latest episode of the Orville. As a standalone episode, it was good, but obviously it was the introduction of that universe's version of the Borg. I kind of wish they had been a little more creative rather than seemingly rehashing all of the Star Trek ideas.

That aside, this has been a fantastic season so far, and wow, they do not care about fitting into a TV episode length---which works given how much they're packing into each episode.

Had no idea about this show. I found out about it a few days ago from Matty Matheson's YouTube channel. He and another chef were consultants on the show who made sure everyone knew how to look like they knew how to cook. (He also plays the tattooed handyman.)

I binged about half the season the other night and loved it. Great characters and who doesn't like a nice Chicago beef? And Ayo Edebiri is amazing as the hungry sous. In fact, all the supporting cast is amazing.

Only Murders... is back but full season 2 won't be out until Aug. Think I'll wait instead of week to week.

So I've begun watching Letterkenny and have been enjoying it. It occurred to me that the show is kind of like the Witcher only instead of fighting monsters Wayne fights degens from up-country.

The first two episodes were outstanding. I wish the full season was available already!

Your bizarre analogies are whats I like mosts abouts you.

Having watched Shoresy and 3+ seasons of Letterkenny I prefer Shoresy. The season story is more focused as it is about the hockey team's progress. There is more episode-to-episode gravitas.

As someone who watched every episode of Xena when it aired, I appreciated The Princess, a new Hulu original movie. The premise is simple- the princess finds herself locked in a tower by an evil man who wants to marry her and take over her kingdom. She needs to fight her way out.

Easy to understand stakes, passable fighting, a bit of humor. It was the perfect get through the fireworks while keeping a new puppy distracted sort of movie.

Thanks for the reminder, I've been wanted t watch it but completely forgot it was coming out soon!

Even tho' the overall all theme is there, this series is very different from the book (which is great btw).

I just finished The Princess, and I had a blast with it. Lots of fun.

I also just watched it and enjoyed it.

The new Orville season is fantastic.
"A Tale of Two Topas" is utterly amazing. It better win so many Emmies.
Drop everything and watch that episode. Do not pass go...
So much to discuss

Season 2 of Reservation Dogs has started.

Thanks for the heads up. Fantastic show!

Review of Prey on Hulu - seems to be good but I love the title.

Prey Is the Best and Most Intimate Predator Movie in Years

hasn't it been the *only* predator movie in years? Predators was in 2010

The Predator came out in 2018

Prey was alright. It’s pretty paint-by-numbers but it was entertaining.

Prey was great! Easily the 2nd best Predator movie. Lots of good throwbacks, etc.

I also loved the tie in with Predator 2

Spoiler:

giving her the flintlock which the Predator gives to Danny Glover's character at the end of Predator 2. Clearly setting up the possibility of Prey 2 where the Predator's get the gun back.

Thought it was fine. Enjoyed more the 1st hour. Visual effects were a bit iffy which seems to be a trend lately (I've heard about VFX houses being overburdened for a while, which might be the reason).
I would probably put this 3rd in my list. Predators is my favourite. Don't love any of them. Heresy, I know.

Finished Orville last night, what a powerful first season on Hulu. Absolutely some of the best episodes of a Trek or Trek-like ever

Spoiler:

The final episode is so strange. They wrapped up the major plotlines in ep9 and most shows would have used that arc for their finale but instead they put in a charming/silly episode about the Prime Directive as an A plot and some fun B, C, and D plot stuff. I suspect they wanted to have a sort of signature "This is Orville" episode to end on in case they didnt get renewed.

Yeah was good but not great. Loved the setting for the film and the last few fight sequences were well done. The predator did seem a bit too invulnerable with some of the damage he took. And the hunters seemed oddly unbaffled by witnessing this creature for the first time.

But I let that go and just tried to enjoy the film.

Recently watched a few of the Predator films. Predators was better than I remembered but not great either - fantastic opening though. Alien vs Predator was way better than I remembered - but I'm coming from a memory where I thought it was terrible. So in the scheme of things its also just good as well. Was trying to get through Alien vs Predator: Requiem but had to bail.

I'll have to give Predator 2 another shot. Probably haven't seen that since the 90s and recall it not being great.

The Predator I don't recall anything from and its not on any streaming services I have. So will have to wait to see that one.

Predator 2 gets forgotten pretty often, but i liked it a lot. It's not really as quotable/memable as the first one, which is probably why. The AvP ones were entertaining but seriously screwed with the established lore of both the Alien and Predator franchises.

People forget that Predators was pretty good too.

If you are into comics Batman vs Predator was pretty good. I also have the Archie comic with Predator but haven't gotten to it yet.

The paintings they have under the credits would seem to allude to a sequel idea.

And wow, the Focus Puller had their work cut out for them.

My nostalgic brain was convinced Predator 2 was amazing. Then I watched it fairly recently. Oof... I just can't trust nostalgia these days...
