What are you playing this weekend?

Going to give Man of Medan, part of the Dark Pictures Anthology games, a try. It's one of those interactive movie type dealies with a horror theme.

The Quarry is a similar type of game and downloaded the trail for that which allows you to play through the prologue. That game looks great and had fun with "playing" it (but will be waiting till it gets down below $20). So made me think of Man of Medan, which I had from some previous month in Humble Choice. The next game in the series, Little Hope, was $10 on GMG so picked that up as well - supposed to be better than the first game.

But I've been all over the place trying to find the next game to play. Including installing Anthem, which ran so-so on my old rig and was curious to see how it runs on my new one (it runs great!).

Will also be playing Pinball FX as well. They released a pretty neat table, Grimm Fairy Tales, which is a lot of fun to play.

Replaying The Last of Us, the remake version for the PS4 this time as I played the original release on my PS3 many moons ago.

Bug Fables and Trails in the Sky SC.

Now that I'm done being a cat in Stray, I'm being a mouse in Ghost of a Tale. :P

I am also being a shark in Maneater. Ah, the magic of videogames...

Mortal Kombat 11

Aftermath expansion was decently cheap and I loved playing through the story mode with my partner a few years ago. Really hoping to take a crack at ranked play this time, but I'm struggling to pick a character to main. I've got so much nostalgia for the regular cast, but also the DLC is just cool. Rambo, Terminator, Joker, Batman Who Laughs skin for Noob Saibot? Original movie skins for Raiden and Sonya? How do I pick?!

Horizon Forbidden West

Biggest disappointment this year, I've rambled enough in the dedicated thread though. Throwing this one down to easy/story mode so I can extract all the juicy narrative and leave the bloated and fumbling mechanics behind. I'm so sad that I'm not having fun with this one.

Also, this is the first time a character has felt like a backseat gamer. LET ME SOLVE THIS PUZZLE MYSELF ALOY. She never shuts up lol

3DS!

Installed custom firmware on my 3DS and I'm having a blast turning it into a little emulation machine. It runs roms from the in-built virtual console so it's damn near perfect. A pretty long process, but not a hard one. I'm dabbling with Final Fantasy Tactics, Devil's Crush, Kirby Super Star Saga and a bunch of games from various hidden gems lists.

Neon White

Possibly my GOTY. Having an absolute blast trying to top leaderboards! Staygold is killing me with some of his times though!

Steam has a "VR Fest" going on this week, and that's pulled me back into the world of VR a little bit, after months of can't-be-bothered. I've tried a few free demos and will be joining a GWJer or two in a few rounds of Walkabout Mini Golf tomorrow (invite linky)

I plan to give Flight Sim a try in VR for the first time, too - assuming my computer doesn't overheat and explode at the attempt.

Otherwise, the wife and I will continue with As Dusk Falls, and I'm also making slow progress with The Nonary Games.

Powerwash Simulator is grabbing my family hard. Spouse is demanding controller time and we might figure out if it is cross platform and if GamePass will let us Coop this one.

Leaf blower Revolution is still going strong.

I'm playing the latest video game that just came out -- that everyone is talking about on podcasts -- Banjo Kazooie on the N64.

Except that I'm playing the Xbox 360 release of it, which is included in the Rare Replay collection that came out on the Xbox One... which I'm playing on the XSX.

So, like, I don't know what console to put this under, but it's an easy collectathon that hits an itch. Mindless fun from the 90s.

Shymlark and I have finished The Ascent. It’s a really great game. Incredible environmental art done with intent and a mind blowing attention to detail. The weapons and special abilities are meaty and fun to use. I really hope there is some DLC well on the way to completion.

I’ve started playing Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus after hearing it recommended by Alanah Pearce and others recently. I was avoiding the series as a way to cut down on the number of games I had to play but that was clearly a mistake. It’s extremely good so far and has renewed my faith in first person shooters after feeling like I was over them.

Still Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

It's magnificent.

Re: Power Wash Simulator Coop.
Crossplay multiplayer on Gamepass works gloriously.
Spouse on XBox, me on PC, pressure-washing stuff in a video game instead of parenting/doing all the things we actually intended to get done this weekend.

Edit: now I just need to figure out how to get the controller to work with Gamepass games on my Steam Link so we can play side-by-side in the living room.

Going to try to wrap a bow on some stuff, including Citizen Sleeper.

Bought Citizen Sleeper on the Switch, only played about 45 mins but the writing is fantastic & the structure is so unique with passing cycles, your energy & the dice. I'm still trying to wrap my head around things though but initial impressions are compelling.

What are your thoughts?

I'm not who you are replying to, but I had the same confusion first. It's a little hard to wrap your head around since it's such a different style, but once you realize that it's a narrative-driven tabletop/pen'n'paper RPG, it'll click. You have action economy, and have to decide how you want to spend your actions each turn you have.

Thanks for the reply Vrikk. I've sunk a couple more hours into Citizen Sleeper tonight & I'm loving it. The writing is masterful, the characters are glorious, gaining access to new locations or parts of the space station through building up trust is very rewarding. There's the cloud infrastructure that you can hack/jack into, its extremely well done.

This game is skyrocketing up my GOTY list.

This weekend:

  • Experiment with the new MacBook Air
  • Continue migrating the game I'm developing from Godot 3 to Godot 4
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III (PC - just started)
  • Debate whether I should use my 3 months of Apple Arcade to play Fantasian, or wait until I finish the game listed above
  • More modded Persona 3 Portable (*cough*PC*cough*)
  • Gravity Rush 2 (PS4)

Should be a busy one!

Wildermyth. Probably next weekend too. It has consumed me this month

Indeed. Another weekend, another campaign.

I’ll be leveling Sage in Final Fantasy XIV and trying to get a couple last trophies in Uncharted 4.

on what Sever are you my friend?

I will making some progress in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

The plan this weekend heading into a week long vacation is likely going to be:

  • MultiVersus
  • Returnal
  • Hades (I picked this back up again and have instantly been sucked back in )
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Aether data center, Midgardsormr server. The GWJ Free Company is located there as well!

Unlocking the last forms as I near the end of Nobody Saves the World. Also playing some Sims 4 again even though I don't have the new expansion.

Child of Light, which I finally started yesterday after years of wanting to play it.

My GOTY back in 2014, adored the world, combat & story. You'll get used to the characters speaking in the style of poems after a while too, it was very jarring for the first couple of hours though. I really hope you enjoy it!

Thanks, Spikeout. I played for about an hour yesterday, and I already love it!

Yeah I just ran through that within the last year. Was fantastic fun. I only wished I could have more of the party in combat later on because I had so many characters

A little bit of Fell Seal, a little bit of Young Souls, a little bit of Xenoblade Chronicles, and whatever else might strike my fancy, time permitting.

For some reason, I have picked up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Breath Of The Wild again this weekend.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe probably needs no explanation. Possibly the best of an iconic franchise. It's impossible to not have fun with this. My mind's a bit fried from work (and maybe a little rum) at the moment, so it's cool to relax to this. Except when the cpu cheats, maybe... But at least they don't cheat anywhere near as much as the SNES ones did.

I'm halfway through a second run of BotW, picking up from when I last played in November last year. I always call BotW the greatest game of all time, but sometimes I wonder how true that is, does it hold up etc. But the more I play it, the more confident I am in that decision. It's just so good. Like, it's faults are in places where most games don't even have places. I had a double-take when I looked at it's original release date - March 2017! A long time ago, in videogame terms, but it's so far ahead of the current generation of competition.

And while I'm on a BotW rant, I'll give my hot take for the week and say that weapon degradation is not just good for it, but necessary, simply because it forces improvisation. Much like Far Cry 2, a large part of the fun of this game is the emergent gameplay, which gear degradation encourages, if not enforces. And no, I'm not taking comments .

More TF2. I'm falling back in love with it again. M4G1C bots aside, there are still a lot of life in the series. What could they do with a TF3 might just blow my mind.

This weekend I'll be unlocking the Monk job in Final Fantasy XIV. I'm also hoping to really buckle down and make some progress in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories.

Stray. I couldn’t resist trying it. Yes I’ve upped my PS Plus level. I may also dip my toe into Returnal.

I'll be continuing on with my Mass Effect 1 replay from the Legendary Edition. I spent too little time on this collection last year and it's been great to revisit this classic. I'm simply loving it all over again and I cannot wait to dig into the sequels and experience them with the new coat of paint.

I've also got my finger on the trigger for a discounted Mortal Kombat 11. The MK series has been on my mind a fair bit lately and I'm really trying to decide if the double-dip is worth it.

Wife and kids are gone for the weekend, so I'm finally going to sit down and finish Horizon: Zero Dawn. I've been playing off and on for over a year at this point and every time I get into the story I ruin it for myself by going off and doing pointless side stuff and getting bored and stopping for several months. But this weekend, I'm just going to power through.
