Star Wars Misc. Catch-All

They were badass with a little side of cheese.

For me, Jedi's bigger problems are almost all on the human side -- Lucas' meddling with things in the more modern editions, Hamill's acting, McDiarmid's over-the-top performance as the emperor, Ford being checked out, etc. Ewoks are way down the list for me.

There's a typo in that post, you accidentally included one of the highlights of the film, "McDiarmid's over-the-top performance as the Emperor," in a list of problems.

So Yoda is a Boomer?

Only if he pulled the ladder up after climbing into Luke's X-Wing.

Solo is kinda the dividing line for me. It's not good, but it's low-stacks and throw-away in the least offensive manner

Solo is the Star Trek Discovery of Star Wars: *some* really great ideas and acting, but way too padded out in time and filler to make it worth rewatching.

Seeing the Star Wars rankings spurred me to quiz my 10 year old about his rankings.

A little background to set the stage. He watched the series first in the months leading up to Rise of Skywalker, which was his first SW viewing at a theater.

That's right, he has Empire last. When I said that Empire is my favorite and a lot of other people's as well and I asked him why; he responded that even though I showed him the movies in the correct order, he already knew about Luke's father from friends at school and otherwise not much happens and he said it feels just like filler.

I know those of us from decades long ago have a lot of baggage with these movies but at least for my kid, the younglings are bringing their own perspectives to the franchise.

Spoiler:

Did Qui-Gon ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you.

I thought I was out, but that Andor trailer pulled me back in. It's eight times bitten, nine times shy, then.

Yeah, the trailer looks good, and I'll watch it. But I wish they'd explore a time period outside the Skywalker dynasty.

Same. I've been skeptical about the show since it was first announced, but.. that trailer looked good.

Yea, skipped to the end and yes there's a date, September 21 = Good trailer. Now going on blackout like for every other show and film ever.

Not a lightsaber in sight. Yet.

Seems about the right time for Kanan Jarrus to show up.

I understand the sentiment, and wouldn't complain if there was something outside of the 9 movies, but personally I love it when an IP fleshes out a time period.

Looks cool. I'm in. I have no idea what Andor's story is beyond Rogue One.

Didn’t see K2-SO in that trailer…

I never finished Obi-Wan. Really curious if this can find any humor. Mandalorian had some very good funny bits but Obi-Wan was completely lacking.

Very unlikely in season 1 according to a headline in my feed a while back. Alan Tudyk’s schedule wouldn’t work IIRC.

Andor could be good, but I'm not sure anyone actually asked for "how the Rebellion started" stories.

We might need to know how to start a rebellion against a fascist dictator as soon as 2025.

I wonder if Palpatine makes an appearance he'll use the "kindly grandpa" disguise he used in Rebels.

All they really need is his voice. Let someone else play the robot on set.

If it’s because of Resident Alien though, then he should stay put. That show’s too good to mess around with its production.

Was Obi-Wan meant to have funny bits? The only candidate that comes to mind is when the guy pretending to be a fake Jedi realized he was in the presence of a real Jedi, but I never expected there to be much humor to the story going into it.

I didn’t either but I find Star Wars at its best when it’s not trying to make the silly universe extremely serious. It’s a goofy premise that is great when it adheres to it’s universal rules, provides stakes, and consequences, but also let’s there be levity. I’ve found a lot of the recent Star Wars output to be very grim dark.

So someone I was watching on twitch mentioned the industrial lights and magic documentary and the 4k77 update for new hope. So I wound up watching both. The IHM doc was great. Seeing the people talk about what it was like working on the first star wars and all that came after was really cool. It changed how I watched the first move as I was able to look at the movie differently. Seeing all the work they put into it now.

For those curious about 4k77 link below. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it was mentioned here already.

TLDR: It's a version of star wars from a technicolor real to look good on 4k and modern TVs.
