I can see from my zero likes that none of you heathens have read Sleeper. If you didn't like Brubaker and Philips at their most major, you don't deserve them at their best indies.

...still not the comics thread. Well, since I've been told NCAA Baseball is on topic for this thread, I'll mention that the Ags beat TCU last night after FIVE HOURS to win their regional! TCU ended our post-season three times in the last seven years, and then before this season, we hired away their coach. Very meaningful game for all. Ags swept their regional and are hosting either Stele or Michigan (sorry, Michigan fans, post more until I know who you support by heart) next weekend.

And my #1 Vols had a couple of exciting games to get out of their regional and will face Notre Dame in the Supers in Knoxville. Notre Dame looks good on defense and has pretty good pitching, but haven't scored many runs lately.

I put the bracket in the Other Sports thread and had a couple replies

For those with an Athletic subscription (or know the ways,) Stewart Mandel has updated his every five year Feudal Tier ranking of CFB programs.

While arguably late, Georgia has at long last become a king.

And since Cal is still ranked a knight, and since Jayhawker doesn't post in these threads anymore, I don't think we have any peasants.

Marshall?

Sadly, Stewart considers all G5 teams, peasants. Though, based on how much they spend, it's probably fair and all the more impressive when they rise to the top.

Ohio State trademarks "The." What [word trademarked by Ohio State] actual f*ck?

I saw that.. given I care about football east of the Rockies about as much as they care about West I didn't realize how important "The" was... . At least Cal and UCLA are in the same D1 football conference for people to mix up and both are top 25 academic universities.. Our inside of joke of "THE University of California" is more for the academic side, since about nearly all of the UC's are top 100 universities, as well as a top medical school, and there must be one UC to rule them all. Is there another Ohio State University that is on an academic or athletic radar?

I'm hoping Oregon State trademarks OSU then lets see what happens. I kind of jokingly say tOSU when I mean Ohio State.. because coming from Pac-12, when I say OSU I mean the Beavers so I need some lower case letter to distinguish other OSUs

I still don't understand the USC (Cal) vs USCe (SC). Since the Carolina one is about 100 years older I think USCw for Cali would be more appropriate

Real question.. do people actually say "U" - "S" - "C" when describing South Carolina even if you are in South Carolina? Do alum actually say "I graduated from SC or USC" if they graduate there? I'm assuming everyone just says South Carolina? Having lived in LA for 25 years, nobody actually calls USC Trojans "Southern Cal(ifornia)" except for some reason on TV. Its either USC or SC. The only thing that says Southern California is a diploma.

Even in my joking of OSU = Oregon State.. I don't think I've actually ever called it OSU except when writing it. OSU to me basically means Ohio State. maybe its more Oklahoma State that is causing issue?

Another example.. if I say "U of A" would anyone from Alabama (or Auburn for that matter) think I'm referring to them? Meanwhile its very much associated with Arizona.

Living in the states of Georgia, and the Carolinas I feel like I can definitively answer that.

In Georgia, UGA fans are most likely call them just Carolina, since North Carolina doesn't really exist for SEC fans.

In my current state of North Carolina, pretty much everyone calls them South Carolina.

In South Carolina and especially with USCe fans they are indeed known as USC and furthermore if asked about the matter, they would most likely launch into a diatribe about how they are the real USC.

It's funny, in the Tennessee subreddit*, South Carolina is jokingly called USCjr.

*The Tennessee subreddit is the best named subreddit I've seen. It's called "r/ockytop". And jokers from there also grabbed the subreddit of "r/olltide" to hate on Alabama.

I was gonna share that on SEC boards, South Carolina is abbreviated USCe (I assume for East?), and lo and behold ferret just wrote it - apparently so naturally that he didn't feel the need to explain it.

I don't know about Georgia, but in North Carolina "Carolina" always means UNC (aka Chapel Hill) except to my friend and former coworker who went to South Carolina and called that school "Carolina" just to mess with us. Annoying as hell.

Arch Manning has committed to Texas.

Louisville got the #1 RB commit for '23 out of Texas this week. I don't get too excited until these kids sign. But it feels like something special is happening.

QB kid (Clarkson) from CA committed a few months ago and he and his dad put up billboards announcing. Feel pretty confident he is signing. But since then the kid has been busy recruiting a team around him on both sides of the ball. It's been amazing to watch. If it works we gonna be pretty damn good in a couple years.

Yeah, in my experience, the Chickens also claim Carolina as their own, while Clemson fans typically reserve Carolina for the Heels.

On a separate note, alas, sweet Arch, we hardly knew you. Though, I'm sure Kirby will pick up the phone if Sark gets fired.

Get Urban on the phone! I am sure he will look good in burnt orange.

So I did my own research and in fact, every University/College in Ohio that I've heard of are actually all part of the same public university system in Ohio... so Kent State, Dayton, Miami (OH), Youngstown State, Akron, etc.

Unlike what I'm used to though.. very few actually use the words "Ohio" or "State" in their official names and none other than OSU use both of those words.. Miami (of Ohio) is just called Miami University, Dayton is "University of Dayton".

Unlike here where even though we are called "Cal", "California" or "Berkeley" the official name is The University of California, Berkeley, and the same goes for UCLA, Santa Cruz, UCSD, etc and other 9 members of the University of California system. We also have a separate State school system, home of Legion's Fresno State, San Diego State, Long Beach, and about 20 more schools, but the official names of those schools are all "California State University, [xxx]".

So again, I know its all just marketing but so confused about the meaning of "THE" for Ohio State... the official name actually is "The Ohio State University" so.. its already there? "I went to Cal", "I went to Michigan", "I Went to Alabama"... even though none of these are official names, they are all trademarked in some way and someone is going to know where you went (maybe not Cal, since most still don't know the difference between UCLA and Cal) "I went to The".... that's kinda... lame?

THERE'S GOING TO BE A FAIRLY BIG DIFFERENCE NOW.

I'd like to welcome the newest member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the University of Sydney.

I'll believe it when I see it.. not to say it may actually be well in motion, but the B1G and the P12, have been pretty unified so for this to happen would certainly be a surprise.

Not exactly sure UCLA and USCs big gain is here though unless 9am home kickoffs is something they're looking forward to. Who's clamboring for more UCLA-Rutgers matchups? Both of these schools wield tremendous power in the conference, and a move to the B1G most certainly puts them behind at least Michigan and Ohio State, and probably Penn State as well.

Not surprisingly if this were to happen it would be in the 2024 season after our disastrous Pac-12 TV deal that previous commissioner Larry Scott saddled us with. This is most definitely a "show me the money" move and the Pac-12 needs to response.

@SInow@wilnerhotline The Big Ten presidents met last night, discussed USC & UCLA's entry into the league and conducted, basically, a straw poll, sources tell@SINow.

It wasn't close. They agreed to expand the conference.

A formal vote could come in a matter of days if not *hours.*

There big gain here is going to be $$$$. Big ten has a better TV deal and will be renogiating it soon.

Sounds like a done deal...

@PeteThamel
Spoke to a few sources who called USC and UCLA's move to the Big Ten a formality, with a press conference expected in next 24 hours. Perhaps as soon as tonight. This is essentially done.

F geography and the non revenue sports eh?

Guess that was obvious once WVU was traveling to Kansas and Texas. But damn.

I can't wait for the 2024 Oregon vs. USC Rose Bowl game.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

And people think NIL is ruining the good, pure "amateurism" of college sports.
