Get the IV sedation. It’ll make things easier, and the part that goes inside the vein after the puncture is soft flexible plastic so it’s actually not a bother at all. Might as well get used to it.

If you go the oral sedative route try and be honest of how it goes for you in general. My 5mg valium did nothing for me but I also had no past experience either. I guess I am a hearty sedative guy.

My 2 cents of advice: seek out a provider who will perform a no-scalpel procedure. Admittedly anecdotal, I had that done and was up and about within a few days, and skimming this thread over the years now it seems like the others who have had no-scalpel done had fewer, if any, complications.

I think the numbers back that up. But there can be problems either way. You're generally better off no scalpel though. And actual anesthesia always carries a risk too. So valium and local pain killer worked for me. Then lots of frozen peas.

Well, I'm scheduled. Had my consultation 2 weeks ago, had to call them back to schedule even though I was told they would call my by the doctor. I could have scheduled for May 6th, but I've got the anniversary trip with the wife on the 20th so postponed into June after school lets out for her as a teacher as that was the general time frame of the rest of the openings. Plus the doctor said they pretty much only do (every) Friday afternoons and get a team of 3 doctors doing procedures, so it's done regularly there. Either way, not a long wait.

I don't know, think you could have really enjoyed that anniversary trip more...

Too close to be helpful and if things take too long to recover it could interfere.

All done and getting lunch. Starving after no food all day for the anesthesia. So far so good.

Don't let overconfidence be your downfall. It got me. Was feeling great, did too much, down for the count for a few extra days.

Nod. Home now, ibuprofen and started icing.

I will be out of the "no alcohol" window by then!

Sorry I missed League night, was super tired from watching kids while my wife did the labor chores. Back to work today with only mild discomfort. Definitely recommend my Urologist if anyone else is in the DC/VA/MD area.

After years of waiting, finally have my appointment scheduled; June 9th.

Ok not quite as exciting as when I use it in the PS5 thread. But still relevant.

Ha!

One week out and everything seems good. My surgeon was great.

*High Five*

All done this morning. Local wore off and I still feel no pain. Wife agreed to watch the kids for 4 days so I have ample recovery time and minimal chance of someone hitting my junk.

Welcome to the club! Try to not let them hang for too long.

So I had a 2 weeks ahead of time call to go over medical history and such. No meds before I go to the facility, but said they could give me something when I get there if I'm feeling anxious.

I advise taking what they are offering even if you only feel a little anxious, because in my case I was only feeling a little anxious but by the time I was led to the surgical table and asked to lie down with my pants removed, my anxiousness kept increasing. By the time he put on the gloves, though, the Ativan started kicking in so I went from second guessing my decision to go through with this to being fine with it in about a 2 minute span.

Only time I've ever taken Valium. I guess it helped?

I was surprised I got knocked out for mine; I was expecting a local, but they put me completely under.

Same here. Maybe it helped with my involuntary nervous system, which in turn made the urologist's job easier. I dunno.

Otherwise, I knew I didn't need it, said as much, but they insisted. No big deal, and now I know what it's like.

I was given the option of knocked out, or local and took the knock out. Enjoyed my nap. Woke up feeling slightly drunk and walked out 5 minutes later. That's really not the sort of thing you should be surprised by!

Ditto.

I don't drink., don't smoke, and have never done drugs. I figured this would be one time I could get legitimately stoned. I didn't notice any reaction, to the annoyance of my wife on the drive in, as I was flailing my arms going "why am I not stoned yet?!?!?!?" (although, that might have been me stoned??)

Well, to be fair, it was "surprised I was only going to be offered the general" and not "walked into the clinic, got hit on the back of the head by a 2x4, and woke up sterile an hour later" surprised.

Valium just relaxes you, so if you were expecting stoned... that's not the drug for you.

Yeah, I felt completely normal except for a greatly diminished sense of urgency and alarm.

So, yeah, no driving allowed.
