Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Finished all 3 seasons of Servant of the People. I really enjoyed s1, thought s2 had some great moments, and s3 felt like they didn't know how to end it and it really didn't stick the landing. Ultimately i really liked it, but if you aren't a Russian speaker or familiar with the culture, you might not get a lot of the humor.

Very excited about Sandman. It looks great!

I love that this thread was never renamed.

Some younger posters probably see this and wonder what the hell "Watch Instantly" means. So 2008.

That Sandman trailer gave me chills. Wow!
Can't wait

I have been extremely down on Netflix, I am, in fact, planning on cutting it off quite soon, but it would be disingenuous of me not to acknowledge when they get something right. I watched essayist Patrick H Willems gush over RRR, and was a bit let down to find out it was playing no where near me, because it sounded like a great time. But lo, after much failure, waste, and aggravation, Netflix finally delivered and gave me the means to watch this film, and if anything, I feel the film was underhyped. And he called it "three of the best movies of the year."

RRR is f*cking bonkers and I love it.

Did they make the orderly look like pedophile anakin on purpose?

Finished "The Lincoln Lawyer" series last night. Very much enjoyed it, definitey had a Bosch vibe (it's based on Michael Connelly's other books about Harry Bosch's half-brother). It didn't really go anyplace unexpected, but was fun despite sticking to pretty common tropes - a down on his heels lawyer gets the case of his life to revive his career, picks up misfits and broken toys along the way to help him out, deals with twists and turns along the way. It left a season 2 open but didn't end on a cliff hanger. Hopefully there will be more.

My wife and I are doing the opposite. We watched Lincoln Lawyer, enjoyed it, then decided to start the Bosch series and are enjoying those so far (we are somewhere in season 2).

Also enjoyed RRR. Truly, a friendship to aspire to

Have I mentioned Yakamoz 246? If not, Yakamoz 246.

Oh, thanks for reminding me about that show. I got about halfway through and was distracted by something shiny. Love the concept.

Noted.

OMG, 3rd season of Love Sex and Robots... Wow!

I've only seen two episodes: the 3 Robots sequel which was good.
But holy cow, Bad Travelling was amazing!!!!

Bad Travelling was one of my favorites for sure.

First Kill episode 1

A very YA show. I didn't know anything about it accept it had vampires in it. The start was a little slow. The acting is meh. The special effects range from good to bad. I liked the episode.

There were dudes in tight shirts. If you like dudes in tight shirts this show has you covered. I went to put on a tight shirt because I was feeling out of place.

This seems to be a no one cares if you are gay or straight show. Interestingly the entire main cast might be gay. The two mains are at least and I bet those hot girl on girl ads got some people to check the show out. I haven't read or watched anything about how people are reacting to the show. I thought it came of as a positive for LGBTQ people and black people.

There were a lot of cherries in jars. Some of the jars broke. What on Earth could that mean.

the story was okay.

Spoiler:

A monster hunter and vampire fall for each other. The vampire needs to kill someone or she will become feral. The monster hunter is newbie that hasn't killed anything yet. Her two brothers have been doing all the killing.

The episode ends with the two making out and the vampire biting the monster hunter. However, it is stated in the voice overlay that the monster hunter knew she was a vampire and has a stake on her ready to kill the vampire. So will she try to turn the tables on the vampire next episode or will the vampire stop before killing her.

Basic YA stuff.

Based on the book by Christopher Pike, favorite author of my youth. I reread it last year, after he gave an update on production. Still a great book. Hopefully this does well and gets more of his stories on the big/small screen.

The GF finished First Kill the other day. It's very CW. Basically the TL;DR of the show as summarized by Autostraddle

Spoiler:

Lesbian Teen Vampire Story About First Loves, First Times (and Hot Moms)

. And from what I caught while pc building, I would agree. If you want some trashy teen romance to just idly watch while you play games on your phone, this is the show for you.

Started watching the new Iron Chef.

Enjoyed the first episode a lot but turned off episode 2 when they brought in some nonsense "make things more difficult" gimmick.

I just want to watch people cook good food with fun commentary. Is that too much to ask?

This is what you want, but it's not available on Netflix.

Watched the three John Mulaney stand up specials in a week. Loved them all!

That looks fantastic. Thanks!

(And there are actually 2 seasons of it on Canadian Netflix)

I saw him live a few months back. I suspect a taping from that tour will be added to Netflix at some point as well. It was a blast.

First Kill season 1 Episode 5

This show is so trash, I love it. It is like the show just changed into a different show at random.

Spoiler:

So in this world everyone knows there are monsters. The school even has a monster attack drill. I'm not sure if they even have gunmen drills but they have monsters drills.

So the one friend just drops that monsters haven't been seen in years. This is after they run into a zombie. Zombies are super fast in this world. I mean like The Flash fast. It is so crazy because this is the first time anyone outside the vampires or monster hunters have said anything about monsters. This is also weird because the best friend found out his best was a vampire just last episode and at no point did he say anything about knowing vampires already exist. He acted like it was some new crazy thing.

Anyway back to the fast zombie. So a Zombie Flash attacks the school. This things rips the spine out of the best friend's boyfriend. At first I thought the rating was just because it has gay people in it making out but I guess they earn the rating this episode. While the school is on locked down Cal and juliet hunt down the zombie and kill it.

Cal gets a cut or two from the fight which makes Juliet want to eat her, classic. Vampire brother shows up with his witch girlfriend. Turns out the brother sent the Zombie Flash to attack the school. I honestly could not figure out the logic behind this. He said he wanted to help Juliet but how does turning kids into zombies to attack the school help Juliet. I might have missed something.

Okay so the brother and his girlfriend deal with Juliet while Cal runs off because Juliet still wants to eat her, still classic.

Meanwhile back at the vampire home the sister is working out a marriage deal to gain power. Grandma vampire is loving this because she is all about the power. The deal goes south because the other family wants the sister to have as many kids as it takes to have at least 3 girls. The sister runs to her dad and is like I don't want this wedding. Dad is like you don't have merry anyone you don't. Grandma vampire is like this little B is going to do what she is told a merry that vampire man. Dad then hulks out and literally eats the grandma vampire. He doesn't bite and drain her he eats her entire body nom nom nom nom.

You would think mommy vampire would be upset her husband ate her mom but she is cool with it. Also she played Juliet on Lost which confuses me every time someone says Juliet's name. I keep thinking it is her instead of the daughter. And yeah I only know the names of two people on this show and I keep wanting to call Cal Romeo.

nom nom nom everyone is hungry for something this episode. blood, bodies, brains it all taste like chicken.
