Giant Bomb Bomb-All

The Nextlander crew found out mid-stream yesterday, and it did not seem like they were expecting it. If he is going there, this is sooner than they thought. Judging by their reactions, it seems to me that him going there was never part of the plan.

I wonder where Jeff’s next lander spot will be?

I assume he is starting his own cryptocurrency

At the bottom of the official announcement they mention that they'll be focusing on the nine core Giant Bomb crew. As of tonight, there are only five (Jeff B., Jan, Jason, Jess, and Rorie) so there must be some sort of announcements coming tomorrow.

All five fired, to be replaced by 9 Ryckerts, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps style. We can only hope.

Spoiler:

Well, you did it. You actually summoned him back. IMAGE(https://emojipedia-us.s3.dualstack.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/thumbs/240/emojidex/112/ghost_1f47b.png)

Okay so yeah. Grubb, Tam, and Lucy are now full time Giant Bomb. Ryckert quit WWE and is back. No mention of Gerstmann. Renewed focus on video games.

Now the twitch stream says, “see you for the bombcast at 11 AM PST.

Everyone full time. bombcast free for erryone”

I suspect that is when we may also see something from Jeff, or more likely later than that.

Jeff posted on Twitter that he’ll be probably stream at 8:30am.

Dan is the new Creative Director of GB. Yes. Dan is in charge.

Form a line over there and start apologizing for doubting me

In before this thread is ten pages of (sometimes rightfully) complaining about Dan.

I never did for a second, so instead here’s a virtual pat* on the back

And tbh I’m kinda into it? I like Dan well enough, and while I canceled the auto-renew on my subscription, I will be keeping the podcast feed for now.

I’m not thrilled with Tam being full time though. He was on the podcast last week I think? Really kind of a drab, negative vibe. He was crapping on a bunch of games for not being From games, particularly Stranger of Paradise, which I enjoyed a lot right after I finished Elden Ring. He said that the game is a poor facsimile of a From game (I’d argue they are very different, even different genres maybe).

I accept all forms of virtual payment

Here I am saying I hope the Bombcast sticks around I just stopped listening to Firescape cast because I'm convinced Dan is doing a bit 85% of the time he opens his mouth.

Hopefully everyone else doesn't just laugh every time he says something stupid the way Firescape is.

The best part of Dan being on the East Coast was Vinny (and Alex) were a wonderful balance to his personality.

I suspect Bakalar is going to play a big role in that now, but we'll see.

As for Tam and Lucy and Grubb being fulltime I'm thrilled. I love all three, and while Tam's once-in-awhile check-in on the Bombcast was not thrilling, I suspect a more frequent involvement (not even necessarily there but in Quick Looks, Mario Parties, etc) will hopefully be for the better. The Very Online Show is such a wonderful show because of what he and Lucy bring.

I'm happy for Dan, and I think there is a chance for the new team to build something interesting. I like most of the new current crew (and love Jan). It's not the same thing for me, though. I'll keep listening to the podcast and maybe I'll re-up my membership in 6 months. Going to give them a chance but want to see what they build before I renew a subscription.

As seen on Twitter.

I question Bakalar's and Ochoa's placements, but it is a 9x9 grid with no room for duplication. Pretty sure they got Dan and Rorie correct, though. IMAGE(https://emojipedia-us.s3.dualstack.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/thumbs/240/apple/325/melting-face_1fae0.png)

I really like Tam when he's not completely suckling at the false god that is those horribly dull From games.

I’m so confused. Jeff is out? Dan is in? I can’t even think of more unexpected events.

Jeff has been doing video game stuff for 30ish years and has never looked back. He's self-employed as of last night, and will be doing a solo(?) podcast called, "The Jeff Gerstmann Show".

Also on Patreon now. https://patreon.com/jeffgerstmann

Jeff really is just wanting to get back to just video game stuff. He mentions the last 8 or 9 years, the last 2 years, and even just recently.

"This whole thing is bittersweet. It's done been time. So, here we go."

Jeff is starting episode 1 of his new podcast now.

Thanks for the TL:DR version of this, TH.

I agree that he was a bit of a drag on that show, but that's not his usual vibe. He's normally upbeat and good at playing off other people. I'm happy to have him as a regular. And frankly, it'll be nice to finally have someone on the show that's a FromSoftware fan.

After seeing the final crew, this is the most interested I've been in seeing where Giant Bomb is headed in the last few years, especially with Dan back. Yes, he's a doofus, but when he left, the creativity of their content fell off a cliff. That was right around the time I started checking out of everything besides the main podcast.

Breaking years of not posting to just say that Dan being in charge is awesome.

His announcement was interesting. He made it clear that it all happened sooner than he would have expected, while also making clear that it was something he should have/could have considered years ago. He was super supportive to his former workers (which is as expected) though it had a feel that it wasn't 100% within his plan to go out on his own when he did. Anyway, just my read- folks should listen to his Twitch announcement if interested.

Is there an RSS link I could use to put it into my podcast app? I can't find one.

Edit: Dan sucks.

Top-right of the second link.

This is the future we've been waiting for.
