Giant Bomb Bomb-All

I expect that production only gets more complicated for their traditional "shows" when the people are remote, not less complicated.

I say this with love for the guy, but what exactly does Jason do?

When they still had an actual office that needed behind-the-scenes production it made sense, but now that they are a website for Zoom/Skype calls, I don't know what Jason does. Jan seems to be the one that runs the podcast technical duties.

Jason doesn't offer a lot during any of the podcasts either.

I often think they keep Jason onboard because of all the health problems he’s had recently to make sure he has health insurance.

Jason handles a lot of the behind the scenes things and, as the second most senior Giant Bomb member, attends a lot of the larger company meetings. Specifically attends the inter-company production meetings. He's basically a manager.

Thank you for some rationality against some of the Days of Our Lives BS that floats around this thread.

I would listen to a Giant Bomb podcast called "Days of Our Lives BS."

For what it's worth, I don't actually think that Jason is dead weight. It was an honest question. I had noticed a distinct lack of his voice for many months now, but I still saw his face on the weekly podcast Skype squares. If he has a large behind-the-scenes load, I was ignorant of it.

I've never watched or listened to any Giant Bomb media BUT one of my favorite youtube creators has a new podcast on the network (SuperEyepatchWolf). https://www.giantbomb.com/shows/01-j...

The adventures of The Son of Berzerker (LILZERKX) concludes!!!

For those of you who don't remember, this previous entry in the series was the last video Vinny and Alex (or anyone at either GB) did before being forced to leave the office because of... well.. you know.

Now, as Nextlander, they are finally finishing the fight.

I know no one cares but me but Jeff Gerstmann has left Giant Bomb.

Woah, Jeff Gerstmann is leaving giant bomb

Said he may chat about it tomorrow. Knowing his recent health issues, I’ll be surprised if it wasn't just the right time for him. I’ll miss him on the site but I know he’ll still be around.

I saw Jeff's tweet about it and came here hoping that someone would elaborate for me. Thanks dudes

Woah. Well, that’s pretty much a wrap for me and the site then.

Wow, I just cancelled my sub yesterday. Really miss the old crew, just wasn’t the same anymore. Wish him the best.

The poor guy just hasn't seemed happy for quite a while (even before the Nextlander departure) -- whatever the gory details may be, I suspect at least for his personal health and happiness this is probably long overdue.

Not sure if I'll keep listening or not. I actually do enjoy the new crew (mostly), but not quite three hour podcast levels of enjoyment. Funny enough, Jeff or no Jeff for the last few weeks I've been considering cutting out the main podcast and just listening to the Voicemail Dumptruck, because I'm significantly more interested in listening to these folks answer absurd questions and talk about random bullsh*t than I am in hearing them do the longest version of the standard weekly video game podcast format.

This has been me too. The games are almost an after-thought on my end because my tastes just don't align with anything that is ever being discussed. I was not expecting this, but do agree that Jeff just hasn't seemed super happy. Hope all goes well for everyone involved regardless.

The runway is finally cleared for Dan Ryckert to take over.

The twitch channel for GiantBomb also has a countdown timer for 10 AM Eastern time tomorrow. I’m not quite sure what that’s all about but I will be paying attention.

I see people talk about Jeff being unhappy since Red Ventures or CBS but honestly he’s been pretty bitter since I started following him in 2005 or so.

At the bottom of the official announcement they mention that they'll be focusing on the nine core Giant Bomb crew. As of tonight, there are only five (Jeff B., Jan, Jason, Jess, and Rorie) so there must be some sort of announcements coming tomorrow.

All five fired, to be replaced by 9 Ryckerts, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps style. We can only hope.

Supposedly it's Jeff Grub. As for me. Nah, I'm out. I don't hate the current crew it's more the I will miss Jeff Gerstman.

I can't imagine anyone just picking up the Giant Bomb brand and carrying it without the more established members. I am thoroughly unconvinced by their "It's still Giant Bomb" spiel in the announcement.

It's really not. Giant Bomb was not some soulless IGN conglomerate where you didn't know (nor cared about) the names of the people who wrote the articles. It was a place of personality. And all the personalities that I cared about are gone, now.

I haven't been watching Giant Bomb for some time. This basically guarantees that I'm not going back. Good for the community, good for everyone staying there and maintaining something they love. But it's over for me.

It's sh*tty because what were they going to do, shut the site down?

But for me, it hasn't been the same since they lost Ryan Davis.

It hasn't been the same since we lost Ryan Davis, but I think it was something else really good for a while. It hasn't felt like Giant Bomb in a while, and I've found myself quitting episodes of the Bombcast lately just because it stopped doing much for me.

I like Grubsnax and will miss that, but I canceled my subscription tonight- something I was thinking about for a while.

The idea that there is no longer a bridge to Ryan Davis there at GB really makes the separation complete- canceling for me was just an acknowledgment that everything I really loved about it has already moved on.

Apparently the site didn't like my card anymore, but I also decided to cancel. While I like a lot of the newer blood, I found there was something unseemly about the way Jeff leaving was announced that I really couldn't put out of mind. The site has long been something that plays while I futz around doing other things, so I'm sure I'll still do that for whatever comes next, and I'm not going to get all histrionic and proclaim the site's death, but, hmm, yeah. That's all. Yeah.

I’ve enjoyed a majority of what they’ve been doing (aside from Albummer), and am interested to see what is next. Vinny was always the rock for me in the GB content and when he was leaving was my “am I going to enjoy the new GB content?” moment and yes, yes I have.

Will I miss Gerstmann? Absolutely. He always seems up for shenanigans but as someone that has had their tank run dry, I get it. Honestly surprised he hadn’t moved on before now, but maybe the time is just right. Is it odd he hasn’t given a heads up? Absolutely, and I suspect everything will be cleared up when he decides to talk about it tomorrow on his stream. Nothing but speculation until then.

If Jeff is leaving because he believes that something he built is going into go hands, then I am happy and proud of him. If he is leaving because he sees the writing on the wall then, I'm bummed for Voidburger and Jeff B.

As for me, The Bombcast has been part of my life for well over a decade now. It's changed over time and faces have come and gone but it's remained a constant. Hopefully, it still will.

Good luck and Thank you, Jeff Gerstman!

I wonder where Jeff’s next lander spot will be?
