Rogue Legacy 1 & 2

Nice!

I just got the 15% damage bonus for the Sun Tower boss so I think the next time I make it to the top, I'm gonna lock it and try a few consecutive attempts at it.

Finished off the final boss this morning. After one failed attempt at the Dry Lake boss, I managed to get a great Gunslinger build going (although he did switch to the Astrologer's weapon) and cleared out the last of the game.

I have to say I love how they do NG+(and beyond). Plenty of ways to customize the difficultly as you move forward.

Okay. I hate the Sun Tower now.

Edit: Never mind. It's a perfectly fine level. No idea what anyone was talking about. Nope.

Completely unrelated; I've continued my trend of beating each boss with a different class. Duelist, Gunslinger, Ranger, Chef, and Astromancer.

I did one big money run through the first 4 areas again to get that 4th heir slot unlocked.

Still working on Dry Lake(?), last area. I've got the keys for each mini boss and got those doors permanently unlocked. But I've yet to beat either one. They seem easy honestly but I've just stumbled during the fight each time. Hoping to get them tonight.

Also when I did that lock of Sun Tower the other day for the boss, I was level 151. And somewhere during those 15 or so runs, the NPCs at the start stopped talking. There used to always be at least one new dialog icon and I would stop and chat every run. Now there's nothing. I guess I've completed everyone's side stories as far as I can. Got soul stones gifted from all of them.

It's nice but it feels kind of lonely now. It feels like they expect me to beat the game by now. Oh well

I remember hitting a lull for a bit then some started talking again. But between early access and holiday events, my experience might not be the same.

Well, finally beat the main game over the long weekend. I'll try to write something longer at some point but I can say without a doubt this is one of the most rewarding games I've played in recent times.

Last door guard boss down. I found the Dry Lake really easy compared to the Sun Tower. Boss was much simper as well. The Astromancer, with a good combination of relics, can absolutely wreck shop.

Just need to figure out the best combination for the final boss. I did manage to get it down to under half health with a decent Duelist build.

Rogue Legacy giveth, and Rogue Legacy taketh:

I just had an epic run. Decided to do a cash run, but made it all the way to the Kerguelen Plateau boss as a Mage who accidentally took a rapier. Took down that boss (I'd been *this* close a number of times already), then onto the Stygian Study, where I made it miles through, after taking the barbarian's epic weapon that

Spoiler:

toggles on/off an eternal spin attack

Ended up with nearly 12k gold, easily double what I'd ever made before in a single run.

Skipped the castle to go stock up on the new blueprints and runes I'd just unlocked, then got distracted by messing around in Scars, and after that, hopped directly into Charon's boat and "did a KLF" on that massive pile of gold, which not only pissed most of it up the wall, but I even maxed out the safe, so I didn't even get to keep all that part of it.

Oh no, that's rough! At least there's a stat bonus based on the cumulative amount of coin you've given to Charon so you probably increased that by a lot.

Check your autosave folder! The game is very good about keeping multiple redundant autosaves. I thought I'd lost a huge stack that way once, but was able to recover it by reverting to an autosave.

That's a great idea! There's even a prompt in the main menu UI so you can do that in-game instead of monkeying around with File Explorer.

Sadly, in my case, because I'd played on with the subsequent heir, the backup save is either at the start of the mega-run, or the start of the one after it - it drops me into the first room, instead of the docks.

So my ship has sailed, but I've learned some things today!

I am doing a bit better than expected. I really struggled early on to handle the controls but remapping dash to a face button helped a bit, as it's more like how I play other games with dodges.
The Ranger's ivy platform trivialized the hunt for the lilies in the 3rd area.
I am really liking 97% of the game. The 3% I am disliking is mostly related to Faerie chests. Many of the challenges seem to be next to impossible unless you happen upon the combo of abilities that let you cheese them. I guess one just needs to keep locking with the architect and re-rolling until one gets a favorable skill combo.

The trick is knowing which fairy chests to attempt and which to walk right by.

Do completed room layouts get re-used, eg will a straightforward 'defeat all enemies' room that I have already done stay in rotation?

Yes

Some of them you can look at and realize ahead of time that you won't be able to do.

"No jumping" ones are obvious - you can look at the room before pulling the switch and nope out of there because you don't have the ability you need (e.g. astrologer's flying around power).

Some of the "no jumping" ones appear to be impossible without a particular power, but with some extremely careful maneuvers, they can be done. Bouncing off of items is allowed, as is dashing. And even if the switch is near the ground, you can still jump to hit it (and activate the challenge), and then dash on the way up/down, or whatever.

I'm not saying they're ALL possible, but don't immediately rule them out, unless of course you just don't find those particular challenges fun.

But screw the don't get hit with 100 obstacles in the room ones.

Yeah kicking and dashing gets all of those no jumping ones, unless you destroy objects in the room before you flip the switch. Oops

I've yet to see a no jumping/dashing room that isn't at least theoretically possible as long as you've unlocked all the traversal powers

Spoiler:

I did not realize there would be another boss fight after the final boss fight.

After 26 attempts, took down the end boss. Not going to really engage with new game+ but it seems cool. So far, this is my favourite game I've played this year.

Nice! I didn't think I'd go into NG+ either and here I am, about to take on Estuary Tubal on +1 thread. I like the implementation of NG+ because it becomes almost like a boss rush but not quite. I'm also enjoying going through the Scars of Erebus and unlocking the secondary weapons for each class.

One thing I noticed is that I have a fair amount of Ore and Blood accumulated but not that many runes to buy. I do have some pieces of equipment to buy, but they won't necessarily increase my stats. Did this happen to anyone else? Is it an issue with my upgrade path or the balance of the game?

I had way more ore and blood than I knew what to do with. By the time I was done, there were only two runes that I hadn't found.

You can convert ore and blood into souls at the Soul Shop, though.

I still haven't beat it, played something else this weekend. But up to the final area I've been short on ore and blood many times. I don't have all the runes and I don't have any +1 runes. I have leather armor all at +2 and a couple others at +1. But still missing several armors at the bottom.

Oh, thanks for pointing that out, I totally forgot about that!

I finally beat the boss of the Dry Lake, then went on to beat the boss behind the Golden Door after a dozen quick attempts. Level 220ish.

...and now I'm on NG+.

Very fun game for me, and a worthy heir to the Rogue Legacy name.

It was a lucrative run... but the pressure was getting to me...
